From what we've seen of the BoS, I'm confused on which branch they're from? I doubt they're another western chapter sent on an expedition, since it seems by now the western BoS is in no shape to be doing more expeditions even if they wanted to. Maybe it could be Lyons' chapter, but if the game is set during or shortly after Fallout 3, I don't think the CWBoS is any shape to be in Boston when they barely have the power to hold out in DC.

So I'm guessing judging by the vertibirds and airship, the BoS in Boston are either from the Midwest, or if the game is set around 5 to 10 years after Fallout 3, maybe it's Lyons' group that managed to somehow build an airship and got a bunch of vertibirds from Adams Base. (And basically much stronger than what they were in 2277) What do you guys think?

This has been talked about to death. It's likely either Lyon's group or the MWBoS. Probably Lyon's, since the giant burning airship we see in the footage, is called Prydwyn, which is a reference to Arthurian legend, and Arthur Maxson (the boy with Lyon's group,) is supposed to be like, King Arthur.

Indeed. I can't imagine Bethesda wanting to dredge up someone elses lore and include the Mid-Western when they have been working on their own [censored].

And furthermore it makes zero sense for the Midwest to have any sort of strategic or military interest in the Commonwealth on the scale we've seen in the E3 trailer. Unless the Midwest has become a massive organization and can afford to send airships and a full military contingent halfway across the continent. Which judging from the snippets we got in Fallout 3, isn't the case.

Lyons BOS on the other hand? They're in relative proximity and have indirect ties to the Institute via Dr. Li. And they're in a much more logical position to take interest in the Commonwealth/Institute.

It depends Bethesda has said that the some of the events of Fallout Tactics are canon. So if the ending was canon from winning then the MWBos would probably be a huge organization with the supplies to do this. Also Lyons makes no mention of them using airships to get to the east coast but the MWBos travelled to the Chicago area by airships, you even see a crashed one in the game.

I am betting it is MWBos as if as said the game is happening right around the same time as Fallout 3 (or slightly after) than the CWBos would not be in a position to expand yet having used many of their resources handling the Enclave, while the MWBos has had a lot of time to expand already after defeating the calculator and have a territory the extends from Chicago to the Rocky Mountains.

Also with the MWBos it would explain lots as there have been hints there was an Enclave base in Chicago, MWBos seem to wear a Power Armour similar to that of the Enclaves Advanced MkII Power Armour. So if they raided the enclave base in Chicago that could also explain the vertibirds.

It all depends on the year really. The only options that really make sense are either the Midwestern Brotherhood or the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel. If it's 2277, it's almost certainly the MWBoS but if it's years after that then it's more likely to be the CWBoS. It would make more sense for it to be the Lyons Brotherhood, but it would be impossible if it's the same year as Fallout 3. From what we have heard it would seem the Midwestern Brotherhood isn't very strong anymore, but if Bethesda has a good reason for them to be all the way in Boston then It would be them in 2277.

The comment in Fo3 doesn't really suggest the condition of the MWBoS. Says went rogue, long story? or something like that, right? Going rogue or going underground doesn't necessarily mean they in hard times.

As far as a reason, it could be tied into the Calculator, finding information in Vault 0 about Boston. Possibly the robots used by Calculator were originally created by MIT? So they decide to go there to eliminate any future robotic threat.

Distance isn't too much of a factor, 400 miles or 800, if going by air you just takling double the days to travel there. Probably faster for MWBoS to use airships and fly to Boston than it would be for Li or Zimmer to have walked the distance, unless they had some mystery cars we didn't know about.

So who knows. We find out in Nov unless BGS decides to release more in depth info before then.

Bethesda aren't going to bring in the MWBoS, even New Vegas didn't make elaborate on them other than a vauge reference to the Legion fighting some Brotherhood in the east.

Most people who played Fallout 3/NV don't even know what the MWBoS even are.

Bethesda aren't going to a dredge up a game very few people in it's market have played, or even remember, when they would much rather work on their own lore.

Also, it's called the Prydwen, a name which you could have only known about if you knew, or specifically researched, Arthurian Lore. Considering this and the way that the ECBoS were characterised the connexion is obvious.

So how long do airships take to be made then? I never heard mention of Lyons group having one but with the name being what it is that means they made airships?

In Bethesda land anything is possible, irrespective of logic. Like having a gaint robot that nobodies been able to fix be done so very quickly because of one scientist (Dr Li) who is apparently a master chemist and a better computer expert than anyone in the Brotherhood.

They'll probably say that they built at Adams from Enclave tech or something and leave it at that so it doesn't distract from the spectacle.

Well with the logic that Bethesda would not drag in a game that very few in Bethesda's market has played would be true... if we were not in a forum right now for a game that Bethesda breathed new life into that I imagine very few in their market would have played before 2008. Think about what you are saying man the breathed new life into this series of games and can use lore (and confirm that some events are canon) from any of the previous games that even us who have been playing since fallout 1 did not think was canon. They confirmed Tactics somewhat happened in F3 and Obsidion mentioned them in FNV for a reason.

For some reason I can not quote the British Enclave guy.

Yeah but it doesn't mean that they will, and not now. Fallout 3 shipped like 5 million copies, most of those were on the backs of that it was Bethesda - which they were banking on more than the Fallout name. Most of those people hadn't played Tactics then and most won't have now. I can't see them dredging it up now if they didn't then. They want to do their own thing and make up their own stuff, not bring up Tactics. They want to continue their story on the East Coast which they are creating the lore for.

They confirmed it as a hand-wave to older fans, without evening going into any specifics about what in the game was actually canon other than "high-level events" or something. They don't care.

They cared enough to confirm that the high level events were canon. Meaning that they were willing to save some of that info for future use. Its not like the are brining up the unmentionable game into this. Tactics was a little different from the other games but they built F3 off of some existing canon, and used groups that Fallout fans were familiar with to make us older fans comfortable. I am betting on the MWBos as Todd Howard has stated 200 years (2277) even if it is 5 years after F3, the CWBos would still be rebuilding where as it has been since 2198 when the Warrior defeated the calculator. 80 years would mean a few generations have passed and the MWBos could be expanding further.

Also as stated the MWBos is the only group to have used Airships. A name for a ship linked to Camelot's legend (and Arthur Maxon) when the whole Bos are linked to this Arthurian legend.

Well I think that's a bet you will lose, they aren't selling this game to the niche of people who care about the MWBoS. They're selling it to the 5 million people who played Fallout 3 and are probably more invested in it's story and it's continuation.

That and yeah, Bethesda are overt with their themes. They bandied on about being knights of yore in Fallout 3 and this is the continuation of it.

Well only time will tell, but as I have said they have made many small references to tactics within there games (Enclave armour MKII = MWBos Power armor, computer messages stating that they have not heard from them in many years and are traitors) why go to effort at all for the small band of tactics fans when they just could have went non-canon ignore it.

They've hardly went out of their way. It was an appeasemant effort as far as I am concerned.

Also, you mention that only the MWBoS have used airships, but have they used Vertibirds? Nope. And the Lyon's BoS have never used Airships. Could both factions have had access to the other during the years of unknown canon? Sure. Hence their presence doesn't support either side. It's the name of the ship that's most telling. That and factors external from the game.

No. Actually the Western Brotherhood of Steel has no link to Arthurian legends as far as I know. It was never done so much as in FO3.

Pretty much gonna guess it's the MWBoS. If any one faction would have rustled jimmies over androids running amuck in the wasteland, you can bet your sweet little ass that it's the MWBoS.

I know they won't at least not in this iteration but christ I'd love it if it did the more factions the more depth, friction that will exist in the Fallout universe (I promise I didn't mean that in a sixual context).

Irrelevant. Most people who played 3 didn't play 1 and 2 either, and there were Enclave, SM, Harold, FEV, mention of the Tactics group. Whatever group that appears will have some form of history presented to the player, as there will be many who never even played FO3. Not to mention this will all be explained in game regardless to the pc, who will be oblivious to who or what the BoS is, regardless to fans of the series who do.

It is all a part of the universe, so it isn't dredging something up, and the game is their own lore, be it MWBoS or CWBoS. Either way it expands upon the lore of the game universe, which BGS owns the entirety of, not just FO3.

Also, many people who were introduced to the series with 3, went back and purchased the previous games to play them. It makes sense to use the MWBoS, as new fans of the series may decide to go and purchase the 1,2, T combo and give it a try to find out more about this MWBoS group.

I would disagree. The inclusion of those elements in Fallout 3 was a ham-fisted attempt at making a Fallout game, their first, and now they don't have to. They have loads of new fans who are invested in their universe and in the factions that they have created.

Also, all the Brotherhood of Steel troopers are wearing T-45d and the seemingly improved version, T-60, which looks exactly the same. Which faction makes exclusive use of T-45d, oh yeah, Lyon's Brotherhood. It's not the MWBoS. They probably took the airship idea from Tactics but nothing more, it's named for King Arthur, they made a big deal about King Arthur in Fallout 3. It's a continuation of Fallout 3's Brotherhood.
