Brotherhood of Steel: The Winter Soldier

Post » Fri Nov 27, 2015 11:52 pm

So two guys are having a debate in another of my topics about weather or not BoS is good or evil and I had a thought:

What is Bethesda have taken a page out of marvels book and after the enclave was defeated in FO3 the BoS took on remaining scientists and those willing to join to help advance their tech with things like the Vertibirds, Power Armour and eye bots and now the enclave have infiltrated the BoS and are manipulating them into coming after you because vault 111 contains something they could use to re-dominate the waste land?

Thoughts?

Having just replayed Fallout NV and focused a lot on the Brotherhood and Veronica story lines while doing so I am now more convinced this is possible, that whole story-line was about the brotherhood needing to change, find a new role and new ways to connect with the outside world, no I feel very much that they could open their doors to the wasteland for recruitment and probably attempt to lead a war of conquest, either way the recruitment thing makes my theory and infiltration by surviving Enclave members seems more likely, hell they even have the airship to destroy go with it, at the very least I would suspect a brotherhood civil war to be seen.

Considering that the Brotherhood of Steel literally destroyed the Enclave peoples families, friends and way of life I can't see what the motivation would be. The Enclave are people all the same, not every single man-jack of them craves power. Nor can I really see the BoS rallying around members of the Enclave that they took in.

More likely to me is that the BoS got their hand on all the sweet Enclave loot and went kind of mad with the power.

All the more reason to infiltrate and destroy from within, its a possible story line is all I'm suggesting, there would be some elements of leadership still around who would want to get their own back and with few resources left to them they could infiltrate as unkown and then work with those scientists and soldiers taken in by the BoS who would know them in secret, possible is all I'm saying

Also the current rummor is the time line is very close and possibly overlapping. So the BoS in the Capital would still be recovering from their war.

I also don't see them letting any new members, even wastelanders in to positions of power without a lot of work.

Your first point is why I think your second is wrong, they just had a war, they may be more willing to take on experienced soldiers and scientists to speed their recovery, all it take is one of the to excel, and I think the time difference and I think I saw somewhere that the game is set about 10 years after FO3 which would be enough time to get promoted

My guess is the BOS storyline will probably be about:

Spoiler
android slaves

and you could either be friendly with them or enemies based on how you see that "moral dilemma".

The original Brtoherhood are not what I would call evil but a lot of them are [censored]s or well simply elitists.

Lyions Brotherhood is nicer but still not White knights, considering taht they have no qualms of gunning down settlers in a Situation that they could have solved non lethal.

Couldn't it just be another chapter coming from the west, not Lyons' chapter?

Unless it's the MWBoS, coming from Chicago, hopefully no more BoS are making the trek east like Lyon's group did. And it's kind of obvious by now, that it's likely Lyon's BoS, probably under the control of Arthur Maxson, since that big airship crashing in flames has the name of King Arthur's ship, Prydwen on it.

Yep, this could be a chapter that the Enclave infiltrated decades ago and with the defeat of the Enclave by Lyons chapter are now manipulating the BoS to remake the Enclave.... my theory still work yay!

I feel like you're trying to pull my leg here, but I'll engage anyway.

The BoS rarely accepted new member into their chapters. The theory that Enclave somehow infiltrated a Brotherhood chapter is shoddy at best.

That would be pretty awesome but I do not see it likely being in the game. I would only accept it if I could join the Enclave... I'm looking at you Bethesda. If the Enclave were to come back and I could not join them, AGAIN, I would be so PO'ed all over again.

Well you say that but we know there have been situations where they have recruited, Lyons and the chapter from tactics show this, for all we know they have been forced to do a recruitment drive, also the BoS has been around for about 150 years at this point right, (well since the bombs dropped if you want to get technical) and the enclave was monitoring them long before the events of FO2 so they could have infiltrated a century ago and kept it going, its possible that originating from military original also that a member (and then their decedents) has always been in contact with the enclave and would now be a high ranking official, also that whole Arthur Maxson thing suggests Lyons' chapter which in turn suggests a need to recruit after the war to end the Enclave, all just theory though

Where do you find out about the BoS killing their families? Did I miss something in-game?

The MW chapter were abandoned specifically because they wanted to accept outsiders. NV is the most recently we've seen the original crew and it's made abundantly clear in that game that they aren't looking for new recruits.

The Enclave wouldn't have infiltrated anyone in any noteworthy capacity prior to Fallout 2 because their plan in that time was not to deceive or outmaneuver everyone else, but to simply use their virus to kill them. The FEV plan would've pointlessly killed any Enclave members who infiltrated the BoS, as they would not have been able to take the vaccination. Really, there's just no logical reason for it. Let the Enclave be dead.

Their families were in Raven Rock and the Mobile Crawler. You probably didn't miss it.

Lyons saving those non purebreds from the Pitt (for new recruits) and the decision to actively protect locals from the CW is what cause the Outcast split. Its more than likely there are people amongst Lyon's group now who still doubt that was the right decision but remain with Lyons because he is their elder.

99 percent of the time new BOS members are children of BOS members. My hope is that the BOS in FO4 ARE the Outcasts but due to the colorings of the armor we have seen that is unlikely. Its also possible they are from the Lyon's group.

As for former Enclave people joining the BOS. It .. might happen. Id view it more akin to what America did with the NAZI scientists after WW2. There was actually a bit of race from the International community for their expertise. The BOS also envied the fact the Enclave were able to develop new Power Armor types AFTER the bombs fell re Hellfire Armor so its more than likely they wanted the schematics at least for those. Having an Enclave scientist or two to go along with explaining those plans would be a bonus.

If the player doesn't blow up RR, the BoS do. If the player does, he becomes a BoS Paladin anyway so they'd still be to blame.
At the end of the dlc, you have to blow up either the mobile crawler or the Citadel. Seeing as how the BoS still exist in F4, it's clear that the Lone Wanderer canonically destroyed the crawler during the BoS assault.
So yeah, no matter what the BoS killed their families.

In my opinion, it's either the Mid West BOS, the West BOS, or a combination of the two, with some BOS Outcasts mixed in.

Why do I think this? Well for starters the only factions who had airships, was the West coast and Mid West BOS Factions. Lyon's faction never mentioned using airships and there was no place they could have stored an airship where we never would have seen it. Also, even though I'm of the opinion that 10 years have gone by since FO3, Arthur Maxson was only 10 in FO3. Which would make him 20 by the time of FO4 starts, he would've had to do a lot to prove himself just to become a Paladin by then, much less become an Elder... he'd be the youngest ever! If anyone's in charge of the Capital Wasteland BOS faction if Owyn Lyons isn't, it's going to be Sarah Lyons... unless she has passed since the end of Broken Steel and the start of FO4. I'd also like to point out, they didn't really have any industrial area under their control capable of creating something like an airship, and if they somehow did get one, I'd imagine they'd restore Liberty Prime first.

The way I see it, the West coast and Mid West BOS made up, the West coast BOS having basically lost the war with the NCR limping over too the Mid West too hook up with the more successful chapter (which was supposedly thriving after their war with the robots). Remember, the Mid West BOS still has the same objective, gather tech, learn about it, and keep it out of the hands of "lesser" people, the only difference was that the Mid West BOS believed in actively recruiting promising locals and openly working with local communities in exchange for food and supplies, where as the West coast BOS believed in keeping it in the family.

As for Enclave personnel being brought into the fold in the CWBOS, there was a LOT of hate for the Enclave by the time Broken Steel started, if they did end up recruiting former Enclave soldiers/scientists, I doubt they have much influence in the ranks. But... I could be wrong about this too.

And why would the airtship be named after the ship of King Arthur than? Really... they don't choose this name for the airship out of nothing.

Just let Enclave be. Their main base was on the west coast, Bethesda shouldn't touch that :P

Tell them the world (of Fallout proper) isn't black and white.

Seeing your name, you of all people should know that the Enclave was destroyed by someone else before the so-called "Brotherhood of Steel" Bethesda has presented.

Not sure if it wasnt mentioned already;

BoH in DC with Elder Lyons wasn't on good terms with their cousins because they sought to help the wasteland instead of harbour technology hence the outcasts in DC left to carry on their true mission.

Ive noticed you kill alot of brotherhood in the gameplay clips. There may be some sort of bittersweet irony with fallout 4 where your character truly is from a military career pre war (evidenced by the folded flag and the wife saying "you'll knock em dead at the veterans ball honey!") and upon leaving vault 111 reconnects with Enclave simply because of his pre-war profession. Or maybe the brotherhood here have become overbearing, dictoral in their search for technology and the Enclave are genuinely trying to do good.
I highly doubt the brotherhood you'll fight will be like their dc bretheren, though

You can join factions in FO4 and fight with them. So you can choose who is your enemy. We see images were you fight the Brotherhood, but we also see images were you work together with the Brotherhood.
