I've stolen Jeanne's Manual of Spellcraft, waited until a little after 10pm, went to Volanaro's room and he said, "Have you had a chance to pull that little prank yet?" However, there's no conversation option to complete the quest.

Update: figured it out! I was one step ahead and needed to deliver the book to Volanaro first.
