Bryan Wilks pwned by the BOS at The Citadel

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 3:58 am

So, I've been playing a little Fallout 3 in anticipation of New Vegas coming out and one of the most strange (and funny) things happened yesterday. I was heading to Rivet City from the Super Duper Mart area and had made it to The Citadel. I was trying to bait the Raiders under the bridge there into a confrontation with the BOS guys at The Citadel. When all of the sudden one of the Raiders who was after me took off after someone else.

Well, low and behold and much to my surprise it was Bryan Wilks, lol. So, not wanting to see a poor defenseless kid get pwned - especially by despicable Raiders, I whipped out my M1 Garand and took him out. (I was standing a little below where Paladin Bael and the Sentry Bot usually stand.

So, I expected Bryan to simply run up to me and go through his forced dialog, and as he approached, Paladin Bael and the Sentry Bot bolted past me and headed straight to Bryan where they proceeded to pummel him with minigun spray and laser bolts. It was friggin hilarious. He would get knocked "unconscious" and they would cease fire, and as quick as he would get up they would start in on him again. Poor kid, good thing he's essential, lol.

I finally had to leave the area and hopefully he will reset the next time I'm around Super Duper Mart, but this was pretty funny, and I'd never seen that happen before. I wonder what made the BOS attack him?

Poor Bryan... kid just can't catch a break... he must have thought he was back at the Super Duper Mart.

Pretty funny... give you a seven.

:lmao:
Great story! It couldn't have happened to anyone better! I had a similar situation in Andale involving a large Outcast patrol, two Giant Radscorpions and Junior Smith. It went on forever. I finally had to put the Outcasts down just to end it.

Sheesh, poor guy! XD As if loosing your entire town to ants weren't bad enough, you get shot at by raiders and the BOS.

That is a good story. Couldn't happen to a better kid. I love it when he gets attacked by random passersby and the Raiders. I haven't seen anything that good, but I've never caught him that far from home before.

Bryan's just a little twerp who never seems to catch a break, does he? Orphaned, enslaved, and maybe even shot at. Poor kid.

I didn't think kids could be knocked out, let alone actually shot at?
I've had Bryan Wilks be chased away from me (before he was going to force-greet me) by a Fire Gecko. That was funny watching him be chased all around the Super Duper Mart carpark and over to Grandma Sparkles. I quickly headed in the opposite direction so didn't see if Fire Gecko managed to set him on fire or anything.

I find it very annoying the way Bethesda did Bryan's behaviour. So many times he's interrupted me while I was in the middle of something and screwed things up. The other day I was disarming those mines on the Anchorage Memorial bridge when he came up to me. I almost had that whole mine field blow up in my face because of him. I've since added a mod that has him stay put in Greyditch until I get there. I like it much better that way. It's really dumb the way he'll run half way across the Wasteland in order to reach you, especially since most the dialogue makes it sound like you're actually in Grayditch at the time. After all, he's already escaped from the Fire Ants. Why would he go running back there just to hide in that shelter? Why not go to some place safe like Megaton while you go look for his Dad? That whole sequence doesn't make any sense at all the way it's done.

I made the same type of mod well before the one on Nexus came out as I was sick of him screwing things up. He doesn't leave Greyditch, won't go past the barriers. Whatever his "search for player" radius is I shortened it considerably. Easy fix.
At the time I didn't release it as I thought it was boring and no one else would want it. Some people love force-greeters. I think they should all be shot. I can't stand them (force-greeters, that is :) )

He won't set aflame. I've tried. He stands in the middle of the fireball http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/1006/screenshot862.png I've also attacked him with the Shish; no flaming. It was a great disappointment to me.

I actually quite like that he chases me down so I can chase him back and attack him in new and creative ways. lol. I'd never do it if he could really get hurt, but it's great fun knowing that he's invincible and he complains while I pester him. I'm still really irritated with him for causing me to get killed by the two Super Mutants that hang out by the river in my first playthrough. This is my revenge.

I have one small addition to the story to add that makes it even more strange, lol. I was over by Greyditch again the other day, and it dawned on me that many game days ago, well before the incident at the Citadel happened I had parked Bryan in the personal shelter there to bake for a while. (I was certain I remembered doing so in route to one of the stages in my "Trail of Crumbs" quest, as you have to go through Greyditch to get to where LOB Enterprises is.) So, I went back to Greyditch to check, and sure enough he was still in there baking and talking to himself, lol. How in the heck could he be parked inside the shelter and still be on the other side of the big bridge at the Citadel?!?! It's really, really wierd!

Also funny is what happens if you blow him off, so he stays in one place, then position him between an approaching ant and yourself. the ant blows fire at you, inundating Bryan with flame, and he doesn't even seem to notice. Something to do with the seperate game mechanic created for kids, making them unkillable and impossible to target via VATS.

Looking at his eyes, I can see why you want to burn him. The boy is pure evil!

Nah, but his voice acting was pretty lousy. He doesn't sound eight, and he doesn't sound terrified.

Well, it's better than an AO rating, which is what you would have gotten if the game allowed you to kill children in the same gruesome ways you can kill advlts, animals, and mutations.
