BSA Browser problems

Hi all,

Recently, I've begun using BSA's to collect my larger mods into one big chunk rather than all these different folders. However, I notice with a few mods some icons and textures are left out during the packing process. I'm not sure why this is, but these are the steps I've taken thus far:

- I have Java installed and updated.
- My OS is Windows 7 64-bit, with BSA Browser set to "Run as Administrator"
- I've attempted running it in compatibility mode, Windows XP.
- There are no errors in the DOS emulation window when packing or browsing the BSA.
- I have plenty of hard drive space, well over 50GB, and 4GB RAM.

Any ideas what the issue might be?

Thanks!

The graphical BSA Browser is kinda buggy IIRC.
It doesn't notify you when it's finished extracting, or when it's finished packing.
I think you might have to wait a while for it to finish and sometimes try a few times; eventually it *might* work.

A better idea is to use the command-line tools that come with it (something like "bsapack -extract" and "bsapack -pack").
They are reliable.

BUT I think you are making a mistake creating BSA's in the first place. Although the BSA might be more efficient in terms of hard disk space use, essentially every file in the BSA archive is dated based on the "last modified" date of the BSA file. So you if you combine mods A, B, C, and E into a bsa file, everything has the same date. Now if you need to insert resources from mod D after A, B, and C, but before E, there is not really anyway to do it except to rebuild the entire BSA from scratch.

The best solution is to use Wrye Mash and its Installers feature (installers are also known as Bain-style archives). With this, you can easily choose different orderings like C, A, E, D, B or whatever you want and Wrye Mash will automatically make sure the correct files corresponding to your choice are used by Morrowind.

Thank you! I had no idea such a feature was out there. You've saved me a lot of headache!
