BSA's - Connarys mods

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 2:14 pm

Hey there,

so I have connarys mod, in BSA form and I was wondering, if I install another texture mod will it overwrite connarys textures.

Now, dont say no its ok, your fine - cause I REALLY WANT TO OVERRIDE CONNARYS textures.

Dont get me wrong, I love Connarys work, its just I dont want ALL of his textures. For example I dont want his imperial textures, I have another mod that does that - so if I install connarys work then install the imperial replacer - it should in theory override connarys work, regardless that its a BSA?

Yes, it is possible, of course. But, thing is - game engine will look up modification date of the texture file, regardless of, whether it's in bsa archive, or in appropriate folder. Therefore, I would advice unpacking connary's bsa and replace the textures with those from the mod you want to install. Then pack them into bsa again. I can provide a modified bsapack, capable of working with larger archives, if necessary.

hmm is it not possible to get connarys mods in modular form?

I just feel that only ahving them avalible in one big archive is really pushing people into the "use this and nothing else" type place - and thats not a good place. Limiting peoples options will only cause distress :( Like with me - I want to pick and choose, compare and contrast - not be bullied into one option

Testing shows that the game will choose the texture with latest modification date, whether in bsa, or not. No way around that, I'm afraid. Then again - you can simply unpack the bsa and use files in folders in uncompressed form.

I didnt ask for a test - I asked if connarys mods are still avalible in module form.

sorry dont mean to be snappy - just at this rate I wont be using Connary's mods as it is, unless I am able to mix and match

Like I said in my previous post - in order to get things done, you'll have to unpack connary's bsa and place the resulting structure to Data Files. Then you can remove the bsa and continue texture adjustment.

Like I said in my previous post - in order to get things done, you'll have to unpack connary's bsa and place the resulting structure to Data Files. Then you can remove the bsa and continue texture adjustment.

so in effect I have to go out of my way to make his textures compatible with other texture mods that I have spent considerable time locating, downloading, testing and ultimatly ensuring that there are no conflicts. And now I have to not only do the same to connarys mod but I have to unpack and sort them to select the ones I want.

I say unpack and sort them because Like i said i dont want all his textures and I dont want every aspect of my game re-textured. There are certian vanilla textures that I actually like in Morrowind and Connary changes them - so prevent them being changed I will have to sort through the textures.

For a texture pack that many have given cult status, I cant help but ask why package everything up only for those that want ALL of his textures? Why do I have to go through the extra work when they used to be modula.

To be honest I might just leave it for two reasons: 1) Mix and match - mods should be easy to use and should NOT require countless effort on my half to use. 2) The fact that the texures themselves have a strange "Connarys work is the best and no one else comes close" feeling. Even when I am only wanting a few of the textures I feel like I am fighting a stagmented cult that is at every turn trying to prevent me from having a unique morrowind to my taste. No I am not a connary worshipper, yes I like some of his work but that doesnt mean my freedom ofchoice should be restircted, limited or require a shed load of work.

Like I have already said I have spent considrable hours yesterday and today getting the perfec re-textured and updated morrowind. All that was missing were a few textures from Connary that I wanted and I can not be bothered to have to sit through more countless hours, unpacking, looking at, testing, packing and installing a mere handful of textures.

Feel free to flame me, shout at me, argue back, rant at me, tell me I am wrong, tell me I am out of order, that I've got it all wrong, that why should people cater around me and yada yada yada - no matter what the case remains the same - restricted choice and lack of customisation that was once avalible. Surley the person who packaged the BSA had to have all the individual downloads. Heck if they send me them I will sort em out, upload them and host the darn links myself!

Edit: scratch my initial post.

I understand your request better now. I've seen them somewhere in modular form, looking right now...

Edit: Found some. How's your Russian... :)

>" perfect re-textured and updated morrowind"

Curious - that's the task, I've set for myself for tomorrow, in an effort to further improve overall game outlook. Do you use any creature addons, like Creatures X or the one, that adds farm animals, or Water Life?

As for packaging - there's a lingering opinion, that the game would run more smoothly, if most resources are archived in bsa's.

tesall.ru has them in modular form. Even with screenshots. It is in Russian, though. Here is the link to all the replacers they have: http://tesall.ru/files/morrowind/replacers/?page=1

There are 21 pages of them and many of those are by Connary. As far as I remember they all have an English and Russian readme.

And here is the complete set in non-bsa format: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2JRYL4BT

every persons idea of a perfect morrowind is diffrent. But I use Creatures X. I am not using water life as some of the creatures are a bit to "this world" for my fantasy tastes.

The game would run more smoothly but it would be hostile for customisation as, evidently, we have just discovered. So more like a complete waste of time?

I would say Artios just about beat me to it. :) Most of Connary's modules are on page 5, there's one on page 6.
My Russian is on a par with yours, but the hyperlinks are in English if you look at your browser's status bar.

All but one of page 1 are by Connary, as well. Page 2 has some, too.

[cut rant] - a few sour PM's made me over react there a little bit. SO I've cut the rant out. Like I said I like some of his work but some people are a little.....irritating when enquiring about them.

so to put it bluntly - I am not getting involved.

I have not checked, but the files available at this http://www.megaupload.com/?f=0HS8W4CV should be unpacked. I have downloaded (and I use) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2JRYL4BT which has all the textures, meshes and icons made by Connary and I can confirm that this one is not packed in a BSA. I hope you will find here what you are looking for. :)

The megaupload link has the modular files. I know I wouldn't want a bsa version, since I too like to do a little mixing and editing, even with connary's stuff. I am completely sure connary himself doesn't consider his old stuff to be the pinnacle of perfection, so I don't see why anyone else should. *chuckle*

Not all of them.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JX1LB1QL has a few more.
(Neither are in BSA format)

I never understood why connery removed his textures,

Really? he has explained it many times.
But no worries, they are easy to find if you ask. :)

thats a bit of an overstatment -its just a texture replacer. The Visual pack has a large usage, coverage and a longer history and thus could be considered more famous but its still refered to as a standard mod. So please lets not use over the top titles for a mod that has limited coverage on the offical forums and no wide spread download links avalible, let alone a module pack.....
