BTB's Game Improvements - Revenge Of The Topic

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 11:03 am

Yes, true, it would be a fitting name  . It was exactly like that, one click and everything was broken.

I warned you :P

Bear in mind that all you're getting TESPECD to do is tell you where the conflicts are - all actual editing/fixing will be done in the CS.

Actually you can also use it to clean esps, above all any uncleaned entries (very useful fro this). Even though to clean TESAME and Enchanted Editor are a lot mor user friendly.

The CS may be the most user-unfriendly piece of [censored] that I have ever have the misfortune of using, but at least the damn thing does what it's supposed to do.

It's the only editor you can really trust. And when you get used with it it's not that unfriendly.

Oh, I know. I'm just trying not to scare the poor boy :)

I personally always use TESPCD to delete entries from a plugin - the CS is crap when it comes to getting rid of stuff.

There are many, many things about it that piss me off. Things that no programmer in his right mind would seem to have put in there on purpose.

On another note, I'm actually *playing* Morrowind right now. Me. Actually playing. It's... amazing. Words fail me. I actually feel bad for people whose first impression of this game was wasted on the broken pile of mess it was in 2002, because my first "true" experience with it is going to kick the [censored] out of it.

Don't worry, you will return to edit something (be your mod or another one) in nothing flat! You can't escape that :P

 No luck, the poor boy is already scared  . I don't even have the guts to use the CS now :P . Maybe in a few days, weeks, or years. I managed to avoid using the Morrowind CS since 2002, I think I can succeed doing that a few more years :D .

Have fun playing and thanks again for this great mod! :foodndrink:

Well, I've already had to go and make a few small tweaks to my version of your mod, but they are thankfully at this point small oversights that are easily corrected rather than complete rewrites.

So, yes, I will be modding still, but in shorter bursts.

Have fun playing and thanks again for this great mod! :foodndrink:

Got an issue with Ald Vendras. With BTB Game Improvements active, Betty Eagle sells a lot of NPC spells. She's ok without your mod.

This one's actually a no-no on someone else's part for a change. What you have here is an auto-calculated spell merchant. That's bad.

The only thing that my mod does is make the fact that someone is selling spells that she really shouldn't be a lot more noticeable.

OK, I will check that.

"Selling spells that she shouldn't be more noticeable?" Could you rephrase that pls?

There is another abnormality I think, but I have not yet checked if it was a conflict with your mods: All NPCs show the topic "Boots of Blinding Speed". If I click this topic, I am asked to sell the Boots to the museum for 1,000 but if I choose to keep them, it starts an infinite dialog loop.

Any autocalculated spell will be available to any autolcalculated NPC. Thus, an autocalculated spell merchant can sell *any* autocalculated spell - even if that spell wasn't meant to be avilable to the player.

In general, players won't notice this... unless the spell merchant starts selling a whole slew of "BTB" spells.

O.O

Er... that one's mine. Probably because of MWEdit.

Well turning that NPC into a non-autocalculated one should fix the problem right? No side effects?

Isn't one of the problems using TESPCD (which I love by the way) is that when you edit with it, it doesn't update the header file (size of plugin)? This is mostly a problem when you cut and paste entries or just delete entries and the file size changes. Enchanted Editor fixes incorrect header sizes though (and maybe TES3CMD).

Yeah, pretty much... unless you forget the reason that said NPC was set to auto-calculate in the first place.

I don't see any "Boots of Blinding Speed" topic in *my* NPCs. It's all right here.

I'm guessing that it's because the topic hasn't been added yet. when it does, then MWEdit has broken it (along with every other artifact, I'm guessing) to forget who was supposed to talk about it (thus defaulting to everybody) and what the outcome was supposed to be (so it does jack [censored]).

So, yeah, I'll fix it. I may need a day or so, though, since I'm back on shift.

I've never had a problem using it just to delete unwanted stuff from mods.

I checked this in the CS and you're right. The "Sell / Keep / Donate" and "Sell / Keep" pieces of dialogue for all museum artifacts have no conditions set, so apply to everyone. The rest of the artifact dialogue of this museum NPC (Torasa Aram) is still intact, as far as I can tell. Don't know what's causing the dialogue loop, though.

Any chance you remember what else you edited with MWEdit? In any case, you would expect similar Tribunal/Bloodmoon dialogue to be tampered with as well.

The "Equipment" plugin should be the only one affected, as I hadn't touched the "Alchemy" plugin in quite some time, and those are the only two of my plugins that are dependent on Bloodmoon/Tribunal.

About this change:
? Updated "Better Clothes" compatibility plugin to be based on the "NAC" alternate plugin rather than the original.

I use the original esp. Can I still use this patch with it?

I see.

But what I really meant to ask was: aren't there more pieces of dialogue that are dependent on TB/BM items, and that are therefore potentially broken? E.g., a quest that requires a certain item to progress by means of dialogue.

Just checkin'.

Oh, I see what you mean. Let's see if I can't put you at ease, here.

The "problem" with MWEdit (one of them, anyways) is that it can and will load a plugin without loading the master file along with it. And for whatever reason, lacking the Bloodmoon and Tribunal master files, it will take any piece of data in that plugin and strip it of all sorts of information (the body part data on the armor, the script on Hircine's Ring, the NPC IDs on the dialogue topics, etc.)

Nearly all of the Tribunal and Bloodmoon items got hosed by this problem because my mod edits nearly all of them. The only dialogue that it edits, however, are concerning the items that can be sold to the museum. Thus, those were the only ones that I needed to fix.

Yes, there's a lot of other dialogue in Tribunal and Bloodmoon, but since my mod never edited any of it, MWEdit never [censored] any of it up by [censored] up my mod.

Hope this explains everything.

Yes, it certainly did. Thanks for clearing that up.

edit: Your new Better Clothes plugin results in vanilla clothing with my game. This could be due to a whole set of things, so don't pay attention to this until other people report something similar. I'm using your old BC NAC plugin again, however.

Actually no. I remember some conversation about this subject a few pages back, or the previous thread, but I didn't pay attention to it and now I can't find it anymore.

But you don't need to clarify if you don't have the time or the mood, I was just curious if it works with my esp :) .

Well, the main point is that I don't give a flying [censored] about lizard [censored], and it disturbs me that anyone would. So, my *intent* was to simply just use the main plugin, except I didn't realize that the main plugin was the one that went out of its way to *avoid* lizard [censored] - it's the alternate one that doesn't add lots of pointless scripts, items, topics, etc.

But you have made me think of something that didn't occur to me before - this is actually the better way to do it. Because I'm editing the plugin with no extra stuff in it, there's nothing to stop someone who for some reason doesn't like lizard [censored] from using this plugin alongside the main Better Clothes plugin, except possibly the shame of admitting that you're using a plugin for the sole purpose of avoiding lizard [censored].

Of course, I appear to have fluffed the puppy on the last release with the BC plugin, so I'll have to wait until I get home tonight to see what I did wrong.

Thank you for the dialog fix. :foodndrink:

Oh yes, I am grossed out by lizard [censored] . Seriously now, like you, I didn't realize from the start that the main esp was actually kinda weird by making useless changes to argonians. Actually I realized barely now that this is the only difference. I thought that since it was the main esp it was the "best". It seems I was wrong. But I am pretty far in my game, so I am not very happy at the thought that I should change that esp, and maybe encounter problems, so I plan to leave it installed like this until my next play through.
