But as he said, he'll need a bigger power supply. Dell isn't exactly well known for giving big, upgradeable units.

Edit: Honestly, I would just add a cheap soundcard in the meantime, buy a new PSU when you get the money, then finally make a larger upgrade when the requirements are announced.

I have an Asus Xonar 7.1 soundcard, and besides the fact that it's incompatible with certain games (Gothic 4 didn't work, Oblivion needs a special setting turned off) it sounds great.

so do you think with that 5750 (not 5770 sorry for my mistake) it will run most games

The E5700 should be fine for Skyrim as most games are now recommending dual cores, but I can't make any promises. However, keep in mind that this game needs to run on consoles, so if your specs are above theirs, you'll be able to play on medium-high settings.

Edit: Yes, the 5750 is still a fairly strong video card, and will run most games on high settings. As I said, it's best to wait until the game is nearing release before making any large upgrades. This ensures prices will be low, and newer, more powerful technology may be available at similar price points.

You could run it on max with 1000$(desktop) so you can't really blame Skyrim for costing you that other 1k worth of fluff.

Return it if you can and build your own PC

:P

I just upgraded my PC and it was fairly cheap for the amount of performance I'm getting because I chose each individual part carefully.

From newegg -

ASRock P67 Extreme4 LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
$153
Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I52500K
$230
SAPPHIRE 100312SR Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity
$290
Thermaltake Frio Overclocking-Ready Intel Core i7 (six-core ready) & i5 Compatible Five 8mm Heatpipes Dual 120mm Fans Intel & AMD Universal CPU Cooler CLP0564
$58

~$730 for a great comp right there, excluding stuff you likely already have such as monitor and hard drive and so on.

I cant understand PC gamers, why spend thousands of dollars/pounds on a pc which will be outdated in a year. You probably prefer pc aming but why not just buy a console, you wont have to spend money upgrading it, they have better graphics etc.

Because I spent slightly more than a console on my PC, but it'll end up cheaper within a year due to savings on the games, it'll last as long as the current console generation, if not longer, and when it is outdated it's significantly cheaper to upgrade than buying a new console, I'm not locked into doing what microsoft and sony tell me I can, I can run games at higher resolutions, with better graphics, at a faster framerate, and I've bought something actually useful instead of a toy. The last point is sorta important, I can use my PC for things that are actually useful, too.

I can't understand console gamers, they pay slightly less upfront but pay for it by being nickle and dimed by the manufacturers, as well as paying more for the things to run on it, and they're still getting a single-purpose machine that's 6 years old and can barely stand up to a modern office computer. The only tangible advantage is slightly better local multiplayer support, but even that's starting to be phased out. Paying more (in the long run) and getting less, in both the long and short term? Why.

I paid about $620 for my pc(already had monitor). Which was cheaper than a PS3 when it came out and it played games with better graphics than the PS3. In addition to all the other useful things it does. PC gaming is not as expensive is many console gamers think.

And I think there is added value when I play a pc version of a game, for example Skyrim will have a massive amount of extra content with user made mods. If you look at some of the best mods for OB, they have the content of multiple $50 expansions like Shivering Isles. That is something to consider, depending on the type of games you play.

Yeah consoles are six years old, but developers have said that they have only started to tap into what they are capable of. But yes graphics and mod wise computers are way better (consoles cant mod). The only thing that i think gives consoles a little bit of an edge is that some games don't come out for the pc.

Edit- I didn't mean that consoles have the complete edge, just the edge in that category.

And PCs have many games that don't come out on consoles. Exclusivity isn't exclusive.

There shouldn't be parallel threads covering the same ground in both the Oblivion Hardware Forum and this one. You should pick a single forum for this, and ask a moderator to lock down or merge in the other message thread.

That's pretty bad bro, IMO. Take a trip to NewEgg (.com) and get yourself some new stuff. At least a 1,000 watt PSU as well a Intel i7 and a GTX 580. Make sure yo get some good coolers.

1,000 watts is way too much. A decent 650w or so (preferably by Corsair or Seasonic) would handle an i7 and a GTX 580.

For those looking to buy, I'd hold off on an Intel Sandy Bridge just now:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/31/intel-finds-sandy-bridge-chipset-design-flaw-shipments-stopped/

Edit:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Intel-Identifies-Chipset-bw-2602718600.html?x=0&.v=1

Looks like the fix won't be until April. Well, I'm glad I waited to build my PC.
