Post » Thu May 03, 2012 4:58 am

Hello all,

I just bought the game Oblivion after i have played Morrowwind with much pleasure.
However already in the beginning with the first quest there seems to be a bug in the game.
When i am heading to jauffre, on the second floor, he just keeps reading his book and dont speak to me.
I have started the game again and changed the character but again the same, i have the amulet but he just dont speak to me when
i stand in front of him.

Can someone help me plz or is this buy a disaster?

Never heard of this bug before, ever. Go speak to one of the other monks hanging around the priory. One should approach you and ask what your business is. Tell him you're looking for Jaufre and he'll direct you to him. Jaufre should speak to you then.

Are you just standing in front of him, or are you speaking to him? (What happens if you click on him?)

One of the first things to do with an Oblivion install is always install the Unofficial patch. That may fix this. Though, the list is too long for me to check. I once took the time to read through the change log and it took me well over an hour.

I'm thinking this is a case of a new player not knowing how to talk to ("activate") an NPC.

Eh, I can't tell to be honest. Wording isn't precise enough for me. Though, the unofficial patches should still be used all the same.

If that is the issue, use the key on him that was used to enter the building. Most quests don't advance automatically, you, the player, usually has to do something to trigger advancement.

Sure he says he's played morrowind.

Yeah, but Oblivion starts with several forced dialogs. It would be possible to assume that this is how all conversations start.

I suppose it's possible that some kind of glitch is happening, but I find it strange that one could activate the door to get into the priory, but somehow not be able to activate Jauffre. And doubly strange that one could start a new character and have it happen again.

I did a search, and people have had problems like this, but it's usually because they're in sneak mode, or they just started playing and haven't caught on to the game controls.

its solved by downloading the unofficial patch, and yes i knew how to talk, i loved playing Morrowwind because of all freedom you have to be an adventurer and searching throughout the world, beside doing the quests and the main story, thats what i want to feel at oblivion too, also heard the new game just released is great too, so i will go for that one too.
Thnx all for your reply and help.
