Bug Report

Spoiler(s) -- Sorry to all that read this before I displayed that this had spoiler content in this. I did read that you were not supposed to, but I suppose I did not think about it when I wrote this.

Level of Importance: Moderate to minor.

Quest

There Stands the Grass

Stage of Quest: Player is supposed to ignite the gas emitting from the noted two vents.
Solution to Stage of Quest: Throw a grenade (from the women/ghoul's bag of significance in Vault 22) in radius of vents to ignite gas, then retreat into the second (or first) room on the right side (while looking at the vents), close the door, and wait out the explosion.
Problem/Bug: After completing the Solution to Stage of Quest (entering such room and closing the door), the flaming gas (unfortunately) enters the said room as well (this is not the bug/problem), and the player dies. After reloading in the same area (floor level) (direct load from death -- not player caused), the said room's door now has two doors in its place, where only one door existed; one of the doors is normally functional, but the other remains to be closed and non-functional (no entry into the room).
Solution: None.
Partial Solution: Reloading again to the same point or a farther point resulted in no change in regard to the said bug, and possibly grenades remained in the inventory of the player when they should not of (I am not certain of this -- I might be recalling a false memory). But, exiting the game and loading to the most recent point (I think) (before igniting the gas) resulted in the door returning to normality (only one functional door existed, as before).
Additional Problems after Initial Problem: None.

I, as somebody who has finished this quest already, suggest you put spoiler tags around the quest info. Just sayin'. In regards to the bug, that's really weird, if you on PC, open the console, and click on the non-fuctioning door, then type Open and hit enter, see if it opens. Also, that is a freakin awesome way to die!

Do you have
Spoiler
some C4 you can lay down and then enter the safe room and detonate it?
Trying different rooms might help too.

First, don't post spoilers in the General Section, that is for Cheats and Hints

I have done this quest 4 times and not had an issue other than dying when igniting the gas, until I got in the right place.

Second, even if you shut the door, you are going to receive damage from this quest unless you get as far back in the roon as you can when the explosion goes off. The gas that you are igniting is everywhere. Even if you get all the way back in the room, you will still get some damage.

Third, cells will sometimes render incorrectly, it is nothing more than a glitch. It will happen a few times as you play the game. You say you reloaded to an earlier save, you can also do this by just Saving (in a new slot just in case) and exiting the game. Restart the game, load your save and the cell should render again correctly. Now, the system will sometimes still cache cells if you exit the game, so someteims you have to reboot the system after saving and exiting to clear that cell cache.

You don't even need to be very close by. I detonated it on another floor.

There's a real easy way actually on the same floor. Now as you see there is a long corridor where you are to throw the grenade. Now there is a door to your right, which leaves to the Cave where you found out little old ghoul.

Hid the companions just in the enterance of the cave (as in the large gapping hole in the wall), and place a C4 like our friend suggested. I recommend this because unless you want to cheat, then you'd need to go to the door. Open it, throw the grenade, quickly close and Get away from the door. It blows up in your face, though that is the farthest the fire will come at you.

So yay climatic blow up scene from Alien series?

I just stand in the server-room where you can get the data and then chuck a grenade.

I had some problems with the quest, but I got it to work eventually. Question: Do you have the elevator working yet? I did, so I threw a grenade from the elevator, setting off a chain reaction of frag mines I didnt need and then retreated into the elevator. TBH, IDK how its difficult.

I stood in that room and fired a laser pistol (that I found in the same vault) down towards the vents, worked pretty slick.
