Bug Report Thread

In IE7 (7.0.7730.13 to be precise), the Sign In link is buried under the banner text in the upper left corner (..."a Zenimax Company", etc).

In order to post this, I had to use Firefox, which is fine.... but it ought to display correctly in even a rarely-used browser like IE7.

When I open a link it displays it in this tab, rather than opening in a new tab.

Indeed. And not everyone even has a facebook account. Meaning members with a facebook account get photos whereas members without one do not.

Precisely my thoughts. I don't have a Facebook account either nor plan on making one just so I can add a profile picture on these forums, yet I would like to be able to add a profile picture. I hope this forum's pictureophobia has gone on for long enough and we'll get to add profile pictures.

: When I scroll down on the main pages (not in individual threads) it stutters and doesn't scroll smoothly. I use Firefox, latest version.

Happens on my ie7. crazy lag, it's completely unusable. I have to view this forum in firefox 3.6

same here. but ie7 is not 'rarely' used, it appears to be more used than every other browser besides firefox and ie8(and it nearly ties in # of users with that).

When you click a link on the forums, it doesn't open up a new page (in IE) but it keeps the same page and navigates you off the forums.

I think this is a good thing. Forcing a particular behaviour on a user is generally considered a UX faux pas. Previously, any link you clicked forced a new tab/window to open. Now it's up to the user whether or not to open a new tab which, IMO, is how it ought to be.

When I scroll down on the main pages (not in individual threads) it stutters and doesn't scroll smoothly. I use Firefox, latest version.

Oddly enough, this is caused by having Smooth Scrolling enabled in Firefox. Disable Smooth Scrolling, and you won't stutter so much. You won't have a smooth scroll, but you won't stutter so much. I still think that is backwards and shouldn't be necessary.

I've noticed an odd bug. The 'Remember Me' option in Log In is checked on me, which means my user name should be remembered and I shouldn't have to put it in constantly. However, my Username fails to appear when I go to Log In. Which means the Remember Me option is decidedly NOT working.

Along with that, Firefox is completely unable to save the password for the forum, now, so I have to manually log in every time. I'm the only one going on this forum on my computer, so I don't care if it is bad for security to have Firefox remembering all my passwords. It was convenience. That, and my memory svcks with passwords. But Firefox is completely unable to save the password for the forum now, when it used to be able. Now a 'would you like to save this password?' option doesn't even appear. <_<

1. four different shades of black design - very hard to see differentiation

2. four inch posting area to read from - table width should be expanded - why the huge borders? Wasted space on the page, uncomfortably small space left to read entries.

3. Glossy black background with white print - I am getting eyestrain extremely fast, within minutes of getting on the forum. The old gray color was soothing on the eyes. I also have trouble with black print on a white page - lots of people have visual problems, and this new format is designed to assault vision rather than ease it. - Solution would be to switch colors of the border and the table (Black borders, gray table) to ease eye strain.

4. FanFic section is unreadable now. There is four inches of borders and two inches set aside for the profile image, giving the actual text of the fanfic a tiny place on the page, squeezing it down to a long tube of writing.

5. Yesterday everytime I arrowed back the site kicked me off and I had to sign back in.

6. Three times the editor told me I did not have permission to view my own FanFic stats

7. Once I was editing my current chapter and got a page full of smashed together codes.

8. Page loading is extremely slow

9. Scrolling down a page is awkward and unstable, the page seems to shift as it scrolls so you can't scan down it.

10. Post counts are innacurate, and now we have to find some list to see our correct post count instead of it being on our profile

11. Links are F'd to anything on the previous forum set up

12. I made the huge mistake of pressing "mark this forum as read" - assuming new posts and new topics would then be more discernable in the black on black design. Now even new topics posted are showing up as read, and there is no way to unflag them. Why are new posts showing up as read, when they are posted well after I clicked that button? The only point of having a way to mark it as read would be to differentiate new posts from the old ones. Now I am stuck with all the flags, and still no way to readily see which are new. - and that key at the bottom of the page, three or four different shades of black indicating new posts - who is able to discern the diff between them? Because I can't.

13. What is the BS about "conversations started by you, conversations started by others, deleted - you cannot reply to this anymore" - The old sent/received was clear as a bell to understand and easy to use. This "conversation" system is awkward and ridiculous.

14. Editor box for posting is three inches wide, WTF? Why is the typing area/posting area/reading area the smallest place on the page on a FORUM? Forums are for reading, that is what they are supposed to be all about; typing text and reading text. This new format is all about borders and appearance (like those black laquer bedroom sets they used to make) - and it is not made to be used as a forum should be.

15. Signature links shot, even if linked off this forum - huh? Links to this forum don't work anymore either. I had to redo my signature, plus redo all the links to old threads in the FanFic - Why would these change? Especially the ones that go off this site?

16. I am sure we are stuck with this elephant, but WTF? Is there a reason why you took a perfectly Awesome forum and did this to it? I don't get why anyone would "fix" something that wasn't broke, with something that isn't half as good as what they had to begin with. Rant over.

I don't use smooth scrolling with Firefox and the forum very much stutters now.

I don't think that is the issue. Having the pages eat more memory I believe is.

further, I have no issue logging on and off and just turned my computer off for an hour and when I logged back on (I had saved my session with tabs open) I was already logged back on.

When signing out and back in all I had to do was click on the username field and the password was auto-entered.

So that is not my experience all around.

FC4 - try changing your password - see if that helps.

The "results bars" in the polls overlap the descriptive text. At least it happens to me in, the forums are back thread 4 or something.

I already mentioned this in the other thread, but you can't click on anything about half an inch below the top toolbar. It's as if it extends invisibly down a bit.

I had put a "sarcasm" tag on that, but decided it would not be necessary. Will be more aware of literal-mindedness in the future.

In addition, let me say I agree with everything mALX1 said, especially in re the fact that the "new and improved" formatting makes fan-fiction (or any other long posts) practically unreadable. There is no excuse for wasting limited screen real estate on borders that add no value.

The same for the unconscionably tiny edit window. I suppose the idea is we are all sending Tweets now. If that was what I wanted, I would use Twitter.

Perhaps the "Download" button will make it possible for me to read fan-fics offline. Or perhaps I will find other places that my favorite writers have posted and read their work there.

Didn't read the whole thing, but the "views" tag doesn't work still (although it looks like they may have fixed it when I wasn't looking). Topics will still have 5 replies and 0 views. Not a huge deal but as long as we are fixing stuff....

Also, for the "watch this thread", they have a bunch of options for email alerts. They should have an option for it to PM you, so you can watch a thread in say, MW Modding while browsing the CD

I feel like I am probably repeating myself a lot - but for those of you saying they are getting ready to abandon ship because of the changes, I honestly think that a little patience is warranted here before you completely trash everything about the new forums.

@ mALx and others - The upgrade had to happen, as Gstaff pointed out in an earlier post, Invision/IPB was basically ending support of earlier versions of their forum software in the near future. This was not done for the sake of simply mucking about - a lot of work was involved to attempt this sort of thing - as some other members who built and run forums can tell you. And with a forum this size, it is not surprising that some things will need ironing out.

I can tell you that the mods and admins are taking note of the biggest issues and also keeping track of some of the smaller ones. Feedback is welcome and thanks to the majority of you who have been constructive and helpful in voicing your complaints. I imagine some changes will happen over the next few weeks to address some things, but not everything can or will be modified to "be like it was". Again, be patient. :)

One feature i would like to request is to be able to reach Community Discussion trough the main forum menu. As it is now, you have to click on one the game subforums to reach this place. And as many threads yesterday already stated, if the stars could be returned to as they were, i just got my third one in the old system, now i have a whole bunch of them, it's not just the same :D

Otherwise i'm quite liking this new software :goodjob:

BLACK HORSE COURIER SPECIAL EDITION

Dramatic Increase in Domestic Violence Connected To Forum Upheaval !!

In an interview with the Imperial Legion earlier today, it was determined that the stunning increase in domestic violence has been directly linked to individuals who enjoy video games made by a company known in Tamriel as "Bethesda."

It seems the cause of the vast increase of gamers taking their frustrations out on their spouses can be directly related to a change in the forums made by this company.

This reporter would like to go on record as saying, "My husband better not twitch wrong till these forums are fixed!"

It appears many residents have also been stalked by what appears to be a toolbar that was designed by some out of work Fighter's Guild Porters.

Many residents of Tamriel fear that this is the end of the world as we know it. A Prophet has been heard saying as much in Anvil. While we all thought he was a kook, was it possible he foresaw this tragedy?

The birthdays are missing! I need to make sure I don't miss someone's birthday.

Agree with the 1/2 inch dead space in the stalking toolbar - very annoying!

I changed my password, it worked alright. The username got remembered and everything. However, when trying to change my password back to the old one, which I( would remember better, everything went hay-wire. The problem is, that the page changes so quickly in log-in that I can't get to the Remember password button in time before it leaves. So now it remembers my username, not my password. Kinda annoying.

But whatever. That's more a Firefox issue than this forum.

EDIT: Scratch that, I got lucky and the page paused for just a moment while loading, and I got it saved. Took alot of time though. :/

Archie! I've been away for too long. It's good to see some familiar faces.

A mobile version? I'll have to grab my iPhone and check it out.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or did I just misread/misunderstood something, but I recall that yesterday there was no gender icon on my profile page even though the gender was set to male in my profile, then I clicked on gender setting and re-set it to male and the icon appeared. Maybe the default setting is male but no icon - I don't know how.

Maybe the forum just wasn't sure about you, until you put the wiggly Alizee back as your avatar, and then it thought "Yep, he's a dude." :P

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but there are an awful lot of posts - when I tried to post a new topic, the little icons (exclamation marks, faces etc.) that you can mark the thread with weren't showing up beside their tick boxes.

To solve the facebook issue, you should just make another facebook account for the sole purpose of linking it to your forum account. That way you'll still have a picture of yourself, but you wont be linking to your actual facebook account so your privacy is secure.

Also, should friends lists be vertical like that? Look at my profile, for example, there's so much space in the Friends section, but the friends are just stacked on top of each other, taking up space. It would look much better if the friends list was horizontal.
