Bug Report Thread

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 10:35 pm

Hi this is for the admins, just little things we see that need addressing. I'm gonna ask that chitchat stays out of here just to make it as easy as possible for the Admins to find the buggies and fix them and the don't have to weed though.

Some things I noticed:
When you click a link on the forums, it doesn't open up a new page (in IE) but it keeps the same page and navigates you off the forums.

Some of the emotions show up as forum code, this is the one I notoced:

I'd also like to reiterate a lot of people's requests for different skins, these are hard to read if you have some visual problems/chronic headaches/anything like that. White text and black writing is hard to post with.

On black, this emote could give someone an photosensitive seziure: : shocking :

A lot of people in the chat are talking about the about the white on black, (for me it appears as vibrating), but more seriously my friend who gets seizures had to take dramamaine after reading the forums for a short time so it might be a good idea to prioritize the skin change options.

Looks good so far!

The birthdays for today aren't showing up. Earlier yesterday they were on the main page, underneath the forums, but now there isn't anything in that spot.

There is no form for AIM any more, so you can't add it

Tried Firefox and Opera

Not necessarily a bug, but it feels like it belongs here: old bookmarks redirect to the main forum index instead of the proper thread with a new URL.

Very small thing: On your profile page, under your photo area, the left side of the information table (join date, most active in.., etc.) doesn't quite line up correctly with the right side.

The forum icons between read/unread need more contrast; the present changes in the transparency / brightness of the icons doesn't show enough differentiation, ie. it's very hard to tell them apart.

There is no longer a "lo-fi" version.

Most of the "This post is hidden because you are ignoring " bar is unreadable, since everything is the same colour (or very close to it).

Problem with forum using Opera

Simple Clicking on links not working in Opera.
Only way found around this is right cliking and opening in new/background tab (just "open" doesn't work there either.)
Unfortunately this does not get around the clicking to sign in, so can't do that (having to use IE to do this.)

I have no problem opening links in Opera, check your popup setting and stuff. Though the problem Archie describes is present (where all links open in current windows)

I do have a problem with there being no facebook connect option, but Mr. Oblivion didn't have that issue.

Using Opera 10.1. Opera Unite disabled, Opera Link Sync enabled

Also it would be nice to have a way to link directly to posts again. The current system is the post number and thread title with underscores which is a bit awkward if one wants to point out a specific post to someone. (The previous software had a # on the lower right of the post if I recall correctly).

Looks good so far!

Your emote showed up okay when I hit reply, but it disappeared again when I actually added the post. Weird.

You can still link directly to posts. Just click on the post # in the upper right of any given post. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1081469-bug-report-thread/page__view__findpost__p__15752171 - I clicked on the #1 of your first post here.

* Problem with the stalker search bar - it's blocking/masking the link text directly under it (best example is on forum pages). Have to scroll the page a couple lines to be able to have the linked text get recognized as a link.

* The default number of displayed topic posts is now 30 instead of 20, which might be contributing to why some people are noticing greater page load times.

* Any posts with links to previous posts made before the update are fudged now and instead route back to the main page index. Each of those links needs to be reformatted to reflect the url change and new page naming scheme - unfortunately, we can't edit posts in closed threads. The interlinks within the stickied posts for each forum are also broken.

It's a change in link formatting. It's not changeable.

I recommend changing the default back to 20 as well.

The mobile version is very, how shall I say this, "bland" and "boring". It's even simpler then the old forums and it's basically colorless

I recommend changing the default back to 20 as well.

I'm not suggesting the link formatting be changed. I'm suggesting that old links, instead of being redirected to the forum index, are instead parsed for topic number. The topic number could then be used to find the new, correct link in the thread database. That way, when you enter an old link, it points to the proper thread at the new URL, instead of the index.

Every time I try to upload a picture using the "Change Photo" tab in my settings, I get the following error message as soon as I try to hit "Save Changes:"

The upload failed. Please notify an administrator.

I'm using Firefox 3.6, Windows 7 x64. I'm using AdBlock+ but not NoScript, so I don't think my addons should be affecting anything.

*edit* The images I'm tring to upload are within forum bounds (150x150 or less, less than 100kb).

A lot of people seem to be having that problem, I'm sure the devs are aware of it by now. Hopefully they fix it soon, though I would just settle for the picture thread coming back instead.

You can always connect your image to Facebook, which is what I did.

Wow, that's a small picture. I don't see the point in uploading something so small.

If they ever make it so you don't have to connect to your facebook, I'll have to upload a close up so people can actually see what I look like.

It's because it is wider than tall. I am sure they can make that bigger as well. :P

Nah, I just wanted to upload another copy of my avatar so it showed up on my profile like it used to.

Plus, I have little to no desire to link my real life and my BSF identity. And I hate adding FB apps, which it would probably require. I'll just wait around to see if there'll be a fix.

Just a heads up - linking to an image on Facebook like that allows people to get your ID from the URL and look up your Facebook page. I noticed most stuff is private on your page so you may not care, but I can still see it's worth mentioning anyway for other people's sake.

Many people don't have the stuff on their FB page set to private. So when they use an FB image on a forum, they inadvertently allow everyone on that forum to find out not only who they are IRL, but a great deal of sensitive info about them.

I agree that fixing the image uploading bug should be a priority. Uploading images is MUCH more secure than linking to them. This was one major issue with the Picture Thread system - many people used photos for it that were Facebook links.

I already posted this in another thread, but maybe it fits better here...
The member toolbar that scrolls with you along the top of the screen gets wedged underneath the website banner at the top of the forums page. Making those tool feature inaccessable until you scroll down past the banner.

I'll talk to folks about that. But then again, there really wasnt a mobile version previously. When I used my iPhone today, I could read posts easier than previously....just my opinion.
