Oh. Well, this seems as good a thread as any to throw this in. I pulled the following note from one of the talk pages of the UESP wiki. It refers to a bug related to the action of remodeling the small house into an entrance way, and it'll likely be of interest to players who are sticklers for detail:
"Some notes on bugs related to converting the small house to an entry hall: a bench and oval entryway rug are part of the fully upgraded Entry Hall, but they can't be crafted by the player since they were omitted from the crafting bench, so only your Steward can enable these additions. If this area was previously used as a small home, and you've opted to convert it into an entry hall, not all of the furniture from its previous "small home" will disappear. The end table with candles will remain, and this will conflict with the bench that the steward adds if you allow him/her to decorate, as will the wall hanging on the right of the door to the main hall- it will clip through the "improved" wall hanging that should replace it. I bypassed these visual errors when building my second home by simply not furnishing the small house at all, converting it to an entry hall as soon as was possible, and letting my steward handle all the decorations for the entry hall from there on."
The above is consistent with my own findings. I found it curious that the end table would remain in place if you furnished the small house and then remodeled, yet there would be no option to build anything in that spot at all if you forewent the small house furnishings and went straight to entryway furnishing. Anyway, the person who left this note has it right. For best results, skip the small house furnishings altogether, remodel it to an entranceway, and just let your steward handle the furnishings.
