Bugs, Glitches and other mishaps can go here.

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 8:03 pm

I've had a few bugs that were fairly nasty, in XBOX 360 but probably on all platforms.

1) Trying to sell EQUIPPED faction armor will cause the dialog that you are no longer wearing faction armor appear behind the sale dialog, no way to get out of it.
2) Can't put bobble heads onto the stand after Yes Man installs the 2.0 O.S. in the female robot that deals with them, basically you are stuck with them in your inventory forever.
3) Follower gets stuck in wall or celling after moving through a door, mostly in vaults

So sad that Obsidian added so much needless complexity and so little stability!
Heres hoping Fallout 4 gets back in the Fallout 3 spirit!

I know Obsidian are creating fixes that have a lot to do with quest bugs or anything related to companions as those are usually the most reported. The equipped faction armour selling you pointed out sounds like a bug. I can try that out out and see what happens. Once again people either encounter the same issues or different in a similar matter. It's really odd how that works...

I haven't come across any bobble heads and haven't even heard of this one yet. Something to look into for sure.

There is still some pathfinding issues with NPC's (If you call it that) Fallout 3 wasn't too bad with it. So perhaps there can be a bigger fix. Pretty sure this has something to do with scripting issues. This isn't like S.T.A.L.K.E.R. where the A.I isn't scripted at all. Reason I compare New Vegas to S.T.AL.K.E.R is cause both these games had similar issues. -And the fact they are both very big open world games with a lot of ambition.

Sorry I meant Snow Globes

There we go :celebration: I haven't come across any Bobble Heads. Maybe there are some? if not then the Globes are what replaced them. I'm not THAT far in the game (Only about 15 - 20 hours) but this is good info either way. Helps others and gets issues across easier for the Dev's to recognize.

If any of you continue to witness 2 second pauses or any hiccups it's mostly due from the Gamebryo Engine. Or it was a poor attempt of a port. But this is most likely happening on the 360 ver. so I doubt it's from a lazy port.

If you feel cautious when you come across these I recommend you save, and try not to save too much in one save file. Split them up in case something that shouldn't occur does.

So, what about The Thorn? Anyone have problems with this? I know that there are people who have had problems with the thorn, but that was after I had already screwed up! I unfortunately thought mebbe i would challenge the three radscorpions to a match ( anyone actually pass a match?) sure they were easy, however i was taking no chances! So i saved my game as soon as i was transported.... yikes! okies, here is where you all will yell at me, i was only using one (that is right... one) save file, i wasn't tooo worried about it. but then i was stuck in the arena...even after I killed the stupid bugs. No doors were open, no way for me to get out. I SHOULD'VE LOADED MY PREVIOUS FILE ( auto save when entering area ) but i am dumb and didn't... i did load my save file and went up the ladder... found out I was stuck in this area ( door is locked and unable to be picked ) ... oh and there went my Autosave... GRRRRRRRR.... Okies... soooooo... if you find yourself in this position... well most of you won't, you use more than one save, right? haha... now i will be for sure... grrrr... solutions/other glitches...

1) Bethesda / Obsidian need to create a tool for us console players to be able to get unstuck... in Fallout 3 I was looting a subway area, climbed up a ladder and fell on the other side ( it was in a corner ) I couldn't jump out or do anything....so i was stuck... grrrrrrrrr.....

2) Bethesda/Obsidian release a patch that actually fixes problems with the games that they patch. WTH did the latest update do anyways??

3) i have the withered 10mm pistol... when i added the extended mag to it well... i am sure most of you know what happens.... Imagine a caution sign if you will..... now imagine it is slightly transparent and it is where your gun should be... kinda ridiculous!! Soooo... you should prolly patch that or prevent us from modding said extra gun...

4) This will be my last complaint for now but.... YOU SHOULD REALLY BETA TEST YOUR GAMES FROM START TO COMPLETION....with proper testing, all of these bugs would be fixed waaaaaaay before release date...

I am truly disappointed at this game...when i am not battling broken quests and being locked in an empty arena... it is fun, but the glitches/broken quests/ graphics problems... ruins any shred of fun i would have.... Please... I hope that bethesda reads these forums...because this game has great potential, even after all these problems... and fixes what we complain about...

My lists of bug/glitches that have come across so far

1. Freeze/Lockup - no specific locations as a restart of ps3 will not have it happen in same place again

2. Slowdowns - If this was a PC I would almost think this was some memory leak as it mainly happens after playing for awhile and approcahes areas where it has to load new items, I would even hazard a guess this might be why I freeze up as its not freeing memory to load new assets and overloading system. But just my opinion.

3. Support Personnel fails to show up when called. In my current game this is NCR support, a few times have called for a ranger and no one ever shows upo even waiting around for a good bit. Odd thing is last night I lost my Ranger in the airfield camp and so gave up looking for him and continued on. After trying to summon another later twice with no luck I gave up, only to run into freeside later and find a NCR trooper waiting by the Strip entrance who now follows me again....

4. Inventory glitches - Items go from full health to none and vice versa when swapping with followers, this doesnt happen often. Also faction armor is dropped to ground by followers stating they cant wear it when all I want is for them to carry it. Even when its dropped 50/50 it now has a steal flag assigned to item altho so far havent noticed a karma hit for taking it. And last night had 1 follower drop a magnum I gave them for no reason, they still had ammo but defaulted to their base weapon and at first I thought item disappeared but found it lying on ground later.

5. AI pathing - for some reason they just stop and cant get them to follow anymore but usually a command to wait and then follow fixes but this is only if noticed where they stopped at.

6. AI behavior - During battles even ranged characters will run to melee with some while others run away from fight, now this could be due to some personalities programmed into followers or supporters but it almost makes me want to run solo for the most part. Also this isnt a bug so much but would be nice if had a bit more detail on what followers stats were for guns. I gave Rose a handgun because she said she was ok with them but not sure if gave her too powerful a one to use good but she sure as heck blows thru ammo like no ones business.

7. Occasionut warrping into the air but so far havent died on landing.

8. Cosmetic glitch - one minute your talking to a sweet sounding lady and next her response sound like she's smoked for ages. Same for males, not sure if fire some voice talents during all this but seems funny but minor annoyance.

9. Only happened one time but during a roaming of freeside with over 1500 caps, somehwere/how they all disappeared. Went into atomic wrangler to buy a room for night and discovered didnt havte enough to cover the 10 caps. Went back to old save and never able to duplicate.

10. Vault 14 - had ghouls attacking from floor below me and driving followers AI nuts, could see them popping in and out on floor I was then disappear, one died in middle of floor.

So far they are all that come to mind but since I practically save every 15 minutes or so and multiple saves, nothing has been major headache altho the freezes have left me cursing a time or 2 since forgot to save recently and didnt have an autosave going on.

TWO MAJOR FALLOUT NEW VEGAS GLITCHES FOR ME:

ok,so as u have read i had two major Fallout New vegas glitches for me and now i have one that affects my story progress. i ll tell u about my 1st glitch and how i bypassed it:

1: I wasnt able to get into the strip! One minute i was in the strip next minute,i traveled to Nipton for a second, then i fast traveled back to the strip n all of a sudden it said "Key Required" in order to get into the strip. I had the counterfeit card that u can buy from Mick and Ralphs in freeside,n i was always allowed in with it n now all of a sudden for no apparent reason i needed a key to get in even though i had missions to do in the strip??? What i did was i killed 1 of the Security Gatekeepers really fast-took his New Vegas Key-ran for my life away from Freeside-Slept for 8 hours-went back n thats it,the robots did not attack me n i was allowed in.

2: My platnium chip has disappeared!!! i dont know when the hell this happened, maybe it happened the same time when i needed the key to get into the strip but all i know is that this is a major problem because i cannot carry on with the main story!! i killed Benny and took the Platnium Chip from way before, after that all i did was side quests the whole time n then when i was finally ready to go give the Platnium Chip to Mr.House,he said i did not have it with me n for me to go check Bennys Body,so i go to check Benny but his body says EMPTY-i checked my inventory n the Platnium Chip is nowhere to be found. For everyone thats reading this,i dont know what the hell happened,im fairly certain this is a bug because u cannot drop the Chip n i didnt do anything with it after i collected it but all i know is that i cannot Progress at all in the story without The Platnium Chip so PLEASE if anyone has any thoughts, opionions, possible solutions i may try,or has had the same thing happen to them,i would appreiate it very much if u let me know,Thanks!!

Oh yea... i know i just posted but here is another concern of mine...

The ED-e quest... What the hell?! I found gibson junkyard prior to fixing ED-e... looooooong while actually... I had left to go on killing spree to get level up so i could reprogram Primm Simm?? (forgot name of robot) to be the sheriff... anywhos, when I brought the ED-e to lady gibson, i only had two options items for sale and goodbye, so that didn't activate ED-e, took it to the next guy you are supposed to talk to... talked to him about everything and started on the Helios One quest, this started ED-e talking...but i cannot get the next one.... grrrrr.... i am unsure what ED-e quest gives you, but I want it!! oh...and did I mention before that I got out of the arena?? Well... i did...and I made a new save ( crossing my fingers that bethesda fixes it so i can replay... and mebbe get her quests too) but now she just says that she is waiting for me to complete the fight... btw...the scorpions are dead... NOOOOOOOOO

I haven't really played much since installing the patch, but the game seemed a lot smoother than it was before, but it still freezes and I occasionally get a black screen when entering some buildings which makes me reset my PS3. I also noticed some npc's coming back to life at The Fort. There's also a crucified Trooper there that seems to let you interact with, but there's no dialogue and it can cause the game to freeze. Oya one more thing, the pip boy freezes if I open it when there's dialogue on the screen mentioning XP or a new location ect... I'll play later tonight and see if I find anything else.

I'm really short on money and with the launch of The Fight: Lights Out soon I need to get another Move, and they aren't cheap in Canada. I'll need to hold off on New Vegas for two weeks, three at most. Hopefully by then a second patch will be released and majority of the bugs and glitches posted here and elsewhere on these forums will be resolved.

I rented New Vegas for anyone wondering why I've been posting or trying to help others.

Fallout: New Vegas is the best Fallout since Fallout 2. It just needs more attention and I guess you can say love? - In Time I'm sure majority of quest related bugs, NPC path scripting issues and a lot of the glitches will be fixed. We just need to keep updating these forums with anything we come across and try to help others. No game is ever perfect and this is not the first Open-World game to launch with these many issues. Need patience and know that Obsidian is working on more fixes.

I mean, you don't need to be a Community Manager or Moderator to know they are working on more patches. If not they deserve this :slap:

Stay strong, fellow Wastelanders! :mohawk:

I've had the same problem. I just got the game yesterday and it was working just fine. Then I got the update today, as soon as I got on I tried to use vats, then it froze, then I restarted it and it did the same thing. I tried it two more times. Then I began a brand new game and it was still doing the same thing. Shooting outside of vats works fine, but as soon as I go into vats, it freezes up.

A fix that usually works is to unplug your EyeCam (If you have one) and unplugging any other USB devices. I had the same issue happen to me and all I did was plug in my controller and it went back to normal after reloaded my last save.

If the game worked well for you before the patch then uninstall New Vegas and don't sign in when you start the game. If that or anything other people reply doesn't fix. If that's the case anyone else who can't pass this will need to wait for the next patch. Hopefully there is a way to get around it.

After I downloaded the 1.01 patch, I played for about 2 hours and then the game froze. It froze my PS3 console as well. The reset button wouldn't work, so I had to use the on/off switch at the back. Now everytime I try to start the game from the XMB bar the screen goes black and freezes console and all. I tried to delete the files from the game game data utility file and it freezes up as well. I have played several other games since and have had no trouble with any of them. Any suggestions on how to get rid of the utility file so I can reload the game and try again?

You didn't delete the game utility file? That's the only way I know how to get rid of the utility file. Game section on the XMB. If there is another way, aside from reformatting your PS3 to manufacture settings I have no idea.

Tonight I was able to play a few hours without it freezing up as bad. When I first started the game it froze 20 minutes later, but I restarted my PS3 and was able to play for about 4 hours without any issues. Right when I was about to quit though, it froze when I was walking down a hill, I wasn't even able to get back to the XMB but instead of powering the PS3 off I waited a few minutes and the freezing quit and I was able to walk again. The only problem was that if I walked back in that same area the game would freeze again. I wasn't able to wait it out that time though so I had to shut my PS3 down. Anyone who has been having freezing issues, I suggest looking at hard drive light and make sure it's not blinking before shutting the PS3 off. If it is blinking and your game froze then wait it out and you may be able to continue playing. If you do notice it blinking, then the freezing may be caused by a bug in areas trying to load.

Nice heads up there. I usually just get up and turn off the PS3. I never thought of what you said. Interesting...

Sigh.. where to begin...

PS3, v1.01.

So, started the game, arrived in Primm and instigated the sidequest to bring law back to the town to get clues about my assassins but carried on exploring and arrived at Novac before completing the Primm sidequests. Played through Novac sidequests (from
Spoiler
Boone
) and found out information, then went back to finish up Primm and see if I could get more out of them; resolved the sidequest there by
Spoiler
recruiting Meyers
, but the town
Spoiler
acted as if the NCR had taken over
and no-one would give me any information or any sensible dialogue options. I had to go look at a Wiki to make sense of what the game was doing and work out how it should have played out.

A similar nonsensical quest-confusing glitch happened at
Spoiler
Gomorrah in 'How Little we know' - Troike has vanished from my game; I spoke to Cachino, found the dirt on him; he told me to check out Clanden (who gave nothing away), back to Cachino who tells me to go take him out, head upstairs and do so, breaking into a room with a hoker walking around in it that when I try to speak to just presents me with a 'Examine the Body' or 'Leave Alone' option despite her coming out with one otf the cheesy 'looking for a good time' lines as I approach; find Clanden and wipe him out quietyl, go back to Cachino and suddenly it's time to take out the bosses, stumble into an office and a cut scene starts with two people I've never seen before and Cachino, next thing I know I'm taking people down and I've completed the quest.
Again, I had to go look on the web to see how this all should have played out - it made absolutely no sense to me at the time. And now
Spoiler
Troike is nowhere to be found, I wanted to get him selling to Mick & Ralph to get the Pimp Boy 3000, but no joy.

Victor
Spoiler
is stuck outside Lucky 38 barring my companions from entering and telling me to hurry up to see Mr. House despite me having done all that and being invited in, with my companions, to the presedential suite.
I can just walk past him and activate the door, but
Spoiler
my companions glitch somewhere far away if I ask them to meet me back at the Lucky 38 as he's stopping them from entering.

Nellis,
Spoiler
I've won the wager with George on the approach to Nellis, I'm welcomed with open arms by Pearl, I'm Idolised there after copleting 4/5 sidequests for them and they still bomb the crap out of me if I get anywhere near the main gate. This made looking for the missing BoS patrol very very annoying.

It's completely ruining my experience. The concept of having a gameworld reacting to your choices only works if it actually reacts correctly to your choices. Twice now, in Primm and at Nellis it's done the exact opposite of how I played out the quests. and twice the quest completions have made no sense and I've had to go look at walkthroughs to figure out how the game should have reacted.

On top of writing and environment not quite as cool as Fallout 3 (where's all the cool tech and creepy military bases!), this is getting close to a bust for me.

Does anyone else also get massive lag outside Caesar's Tent. At first I thought my game had frozen but then I realised it was still running but at a framerate of about 1 frame every 10 secs

My problem is this:
Sent ED-E to lucky 38 (fired him) while I was running around doing jobs for the kings in freeside. If I attempt to enter the strip from either end the screen goes black and freezes. As I have no internet connection at home to get any patch I have to bring my ps3 to my friends house requiring that I taxi there and back will bethesda refund my taxi fairs (JOKING!)? I am thoroughly enjoying this game with the exception of this plot breaking problem.

Ok, so it was actually going well for me for about the first 8 hours of the game. Then last night I got the update, and about an hour in my game froze. It was as I was exiting Vault 11 and walking West past the dry lake. So I turn off the ps3, turn it back on and reload my game. About a half hour later I fast travel down to Nipton and walk to the Mojave Outpost. I go to walk into the main building (not the barracks), and it freezes on the loading screen, sort of. The roulette wheel kept spinning forever, but the radio music stopped and never started again, and that's when I knew it was locked up. The third time last night (THREE IN ONE NIGHT! C'MON!!) was as I was exploring, I had just walked over a ridge to discover a town or outpost below me (to the west of Novac), and I forget the name because as soon as it was in view the whole thing froze. This is where I gave up for the night. This is also where I would like to express my extreme discontent about the situation. I played Fallout 3 extensively, and it was plagued by the exact same issues. I find it baffling that in the two years since then, none of these issues have been fixed for the next iteration of the game. I can forgive not updating the graphics, not changing any menu styles, and using so many other things that are obviously ripped straight from Fallout 3. I mean hey, that retains the substance of the franchise and reduces your workload. But since you're doing that, it should have allotted plenty of time to fix issues that were prevalent and widely known about before the release of this game, and the fact that you haven't is not forgivable. Of course, I had faith you guys would do this, and I pre-ordered the game. Seeing as how you haven't, I'm now debating on returning it, because this is just outright ludicrous. All the game play is great, but its hard to appreciate that when the game freezes all the time, and that's just going to lead to more frustration than fun. Fix this, or consider another customer lost, if that matters to you. I know I'm not the only one, since every review I've read has commented on the same thing. Its just horrible.

Any time I use the hot key to swap to any 2handed weapon, it has one round in the clip and am totally unable to reload until it is out of ammo. Even after it reloads after that one shot I can't manually reload the weapon unless I select it in the pipboy and equip it there.

ok so i had been working on "The House always wins, III" and even though im glad to see that a patch for ps3 has now come forth, i have some issues regarding the update. I now have noticed after the update that i dont have the quest formentioned above flagged anymore. Victor has now attacked me and i cant talk to Mr. House anymore mostly due to the fact that his securitrons now attack me when i go to his office. The update has totally screwed me out of completeing the quest i had originally intened on completeing first.

Another thing. Ed-E keeps glitching out on me. he will be following me and randomly stop and will not follow me anymore. He has trouble going through doors i go through. He will not return to the lucky 38 when i tell him to. So this is a major hindurance because i cant recruit or have Rex follow me anymore.

the game has actually froze up more on me now that the update has been installed. like 3 times a day.

I love this game but really guys these glitches and bugs need to be fixed. I know these are occurances that are not suppose to be happening and they are really hindering my enjoyment of this great game. Please read my post and make an effor to fix these problems. I excepted the patch to improve problems, not make then worse

and regarding DLC, i think it would be more than proper to make sure everyones games are working correctly before focusing on DLC. Now dont get me wrg i dont mind a glitch her and there, but when these glitches start interfearing with my quests and i have to worry about saving a game every 3 mins or so in fear that i will lose any progress i may have made i think this becomes an issue...

Weirdly, that is almost identical to what happened to me last night.

I have been having serious freeze/crash issues since last Saturday, after 65+ hours of pretty flawless (minus minor bugs and glitches) gameplay. As I've stated in other threads, I've tried everything I could think of to get the game to work again.

Last night, on a somewhat masochistic whim, I put in NV and was freaked out that I was able to actually get through the creation of a new character (I had reformatted my PS3 and started completely over) and get in about three or so hours of solid game play. When it did finally crash, it wasn't at all like before. The music died and the game just semi-froze. I mean, I was able to look around but not get to the Pipboy or move or anything ... just look around. I was also able to access the XMB which was a first. When I chose "Quit Game" from the PS screen (after waiting like 15 minutes hoping it would unfreeze), the system just went to a black screen and eventually shut down. When I started back up, the game played about ten minutes or so and then completely froze and crashed like it had been doing.

To be honest, I am at a complete loss as to how to explain this behaviour.
I don't know a whole lot about computers or software or anything but I do know enough to think that this is just odd. If I didn't know better (which I do!) I would think this was a virus or something. It behaves that way. LoL! I'm still able to play other games, watch movies, etc. I've just never seen anything like this on the PS3. It's so erratic and unpredictable that it blows my mind. It almost seems as if the patch is trying to work but just isn't quite right. Hopefully, that makes sense.

Just thinking out loud here.
