Bugs, Glitches and other mishaps can go here.

Post » Wed Apr 14, 2010 9:51 am

To make this forum a lot more organized I've taken the liberty of creating this topic to report any Bugs, Glitches and other mishaps. If we want the Community Managers to see the issues we come across in Fallout: New Vegas we have to stop posting so many hateful topics.

You want Bethesda/Obsidian to know? then stop creating a topic with the same issue another dweller has posted. It can all go here, and hopefully this gets a sticky.

Rules for posting Bugs, Glitches and other mishaps in this topic.

- Try your best to make sense of what you are experiencing in Fallout: New Vegas.
- No hateful comments to other dwellers and/or Bethesda and Obsidian Entertainment.
- A screenshot/photo or video would also be a great step forward into fixing the problems.
- Try not to go off track in what you are describing.

Let's try to keep most of it here and not all over the forums. Also don't expect a lot to be fixed with just one patch. This is a very big game running on an old game Engine. But by posting it here will give the Developers more to look into, if it can be fixed. :tops:

Remember that we are all experiencing bugs, glitches and other annoyances. No one here is more important than the next dweller. We need to communicate together for our 'voice' to be 'heard' :foodndrink:

Have patience fellow wastelanders! in time most of the issues in New Vegas will be fixed, one way or another.

(Also remember that Fallout: New Vegas is on the Xbox 360 and PC. PS3 can't be the only platform to get most of the attention. All platforms are equel in our quest to make this game more enjoyable.)

If a thread is very active it should stay near the top and doesn't need to be pinned - and pinning an open active thread rarely works well.

Hopefully this gets much attention as it should help us get this game up to tops. Thanks for the reply, Donner.

So, I've downloaded this [censored] patch for the game. I originally couldn't start any of the Brotherhood of Steel quests regardless of what i tried. Tried to use Veronica but she glitched behind the door then returned to Route 188 and when i talk to her to go back with me she just walked away, no idea where she went. After all this the patch finally opened the door for me in Hidden Valley. I talk to the Elder and he tells me to find the ranger. They put me up stairs, when i got back up I can't move, I want use my pip-boy but I just sit there. I can look around but i can't move from the beginning spot. I also have no HUD what so ever, no life point indicator. Just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else yet.

Have you tried to start up a past save file? If this doesn't work and continues have you tried to start up a new game? Do not delete any saved files, this obviously sounds like Glitch/Bug that needs attention. Until then if all fails start up a new game and continue on from there.

Try any of those two options and see what happens. If rolling back to a previous save doesn't work and you can't proceed from your latest save then start up a new game. If there is an unofficial fix until more people who encounter this issue, it'll be a good idea not to delete that save file.

(Don't be shy, folks. Any bugs or glitches post them here. If anyone has encountered them and has a quick fix, or just helping each other out will be a great help to others. Not to mention this topic will get attention from Moderators, Managers and perhaps even developers.)

Ok, in the hopes that Beth/Obsidian will take these issues seriously, I'll post my experience here as well.

I bought the game on launch day and started playing straight away. I played every day averaging 5 to 10 hours per day on the game.
I got up to around 45 to 50 hours of game play ... not having experienced a single major problem up to that point ... when I experienced my first freeze/crash. From that point on, the game became unplayable as it crashes randomly in anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours of game play. The system completely locks up, preventing access to the XMB or anything else. I have let it set for over an hour in this state hoping it would unfreeze. No joy.

I have a launch date 60gb "fat" PS3 (model CEHCA01) running current (version 3.50) firmware update.
I have downloaded the F:NV patch version 1.01.

PS3 has been kept in a well ventilated shelf, dusted weekly and cleaned with compressed air monthly for four years.
No problems with any other software: have tried multiple Blu-ray games, PSN games, Blu-ray movies, PS2 and PS1 format DVD games and older DVD movies: all work fine.

Have tried: uninstalling game data and reinstalling game
Have tried: turning off all options such as autosave via in game menu
Have tried: playing while disconnected from the PSN.
Have tried: uninstalling/reinstalling while disconnected from PSN without installing the patch.
Have tried: uninstalling/reinstalling while disconnected from PSN and installing the patch.
Have tried: all of the above and starting a completely new character with completely new save data.
Have tried: restoring the PS3 from safe mode.
Have tried: rebuilding the database from safe mode.

Still having massive and completely random freezing and crashing.

I am now, as a last ditch and final effort, reformatting my PS3 just to be absolutely 100% certain that there is no corrupted game data hanging around.
I will then reinstall the game, with the patch, and attempt to create a new character and play.

Keep us updated on how your last effort turns out.

I know freezing and crashing can be from a few things but I'm content on knowing most of these has to do with the Gamebryo Engine.

If I come across the same issue your going through I'll post it in here as well. Though it seems most of us go through different or very similar to the issues posted. But let's continue on posting anything else we come across in hopes this topic gets a lot of attention from the "Officials"

1) Invisible walls in the middle of the map when trying to climb cliffs. (Kinda svcks since i'm playing as an Agility/Sneak character ... I'm always looking for a good sniping spot)

2) Items "merging": I had a total of 3 leather armors. When i put them in a lucky 38 wardrobe, it appeared to be only one piece. When i tried to take it out of the closet, i got everything back: 1 in my inventory, the other 2 remained in the wardrobe (1 piece was > 50% item condition, the other 2 pieces had the same item condition < 50%)

3) Items vanishing from inventory: I fastravelled from Goodsprings to Primm, then i wanted to wait 6 hours till dark. After 4 hours i get interrupted by a guy who told me all about sunset sasparilla caps (or something). I tried to pickpocket his caps, he caught me and ran, so then i shot him .... when i wanted to loot his body i noticed 3 to 4 of me weapons were missing. (so fastravel>wait>waiting interrupted>failed pickpocket>killed the guy> noticed myitems were gone)

i reloaded previous save, did everything over except killing the guy because i was able to pickpocket the caps. Kept all my items this time.

Hope this helps .... cheers

Reloading a previous save sometimes undo's anything that shouldn't have happened. If it doesn't it could just be the saved file itself. If that's the case I have no idea how to get passed it other then loading yet another previous save.

Try not to save so much in one saved file. I tend to save about 5 times then start a new save. Just being cautious.
As for what you came across sounds extremely odd to me. I haven't come across anything like that, then again I didn't bother pickpocketing that guy. But if anyone else has or tries what you did and posts it here it could help in some way. That is if the same issue happened to them, of course.

And as far as the invisible walls go? not sure if those can be taken down. Really depends on where you were trying to go. A lot of games have them.

And for the items merging? once again if I or anyone else comes across that we'll be sure to post it here. At least I know I will. Or anything similar to it.

This is something I will seriously take in to account this time around.
To be honest, when I started New Vegas, I had it in my mind something that came up waaaay back in the X-Live forums with Oblivion about having too many saves causing problems. I never found out if that was true but during my first play through of New Vegas I had maybe a maximum of three save files and I rotated between them. This time, I will limit myself to, as you say, four or five saves in a single file and then start a new one while deleting the old one.

That sounds like a good start. I did the same thing in Oblivion by splitting my saves. A lot of people from Oblivion, Fallout 3 and now New Vegas have mentioned splitting your saves to prevent certain problems. It's been serving me fine with only a few small cases of having to roll back. Perhaps there can be a fix. Then again this issue has occurred in Oblivion and Fallout 3 so it may be unlikely.

I really need to hit the sack. Let's just keep this topic visible for others to see and report more bugs, glitches and anything else out there in the Mojave Wasteland.

2 freezes after the patch within 23 hours.

the quest

"Ghost Town Gunfight"
After killing every powder gang member and a last dialogue with Ringo the whole town turned hostile and started to shoot me.

"Midnight Ranch Attacks" is not completable after looting the audionotice.

"Come fly with me" i completed this quest, and after this ive looted some rocked souvenirs from the giftshop store. now its not removeable anymore, because its pretended to be a quest item.

Also read the fallout wiki for these bugs.

While playing about 5-6 hours in, my guns would only fire if i went into the pip-boy menu or the start menu and exit out of said menu, best way for me to describe it....

I load the game-the gun fires
i press R1 - nothing happens
i go to the pip-boy menu - exit out of it - the gun fires
i press R1 - nothing happens
i go to the start menu - exit out of it - the gun fires
i press R1 - nothing happens

this affected all of my saves, even under a different character, after leaving the game alone for less than a day though, everything was fine, all saves were no longer affected, so thats my solution if the same happens to you (has not happened since one occurance the day after realese)

Other glitches -

Boone will lose his weapon if you take him inside the casinos in the strip that confiscate weapons, it will show in your inventory, you cannot give it back to him, while going through to trade with him, it does not show in inventory at this point, but it will show in inventory after exiting trading with boone, if you drop it on the ground you cannot pick it back up - solution - dont take boone in the casinos(have not tried this after patch)

After downloading the patch, Arcade vanished, i was at hoover dam with arcade behind me, game froze, turned off PS3, turned back on, downloaded patch, an Arcade was gone, neither being where i left him or at the mormon fort - solution - no idea

Fun little thing that i did to take care of benny at the tops casino - saved my game right infront of him, unlocked the caravan add-on content, loaded my game, applied shotgun to benny's face, big plus, none of the chairmen attacked me cause they didnt see it happen....idk but it still didnt stop me from going to the fort an dealing with the legion, no matter what you have to go there

I get constant lag as I'm walking about. Sometimes for up to a second or 2, every time it does it I think it has frozen. It has also completely frozen a few times.

This is a gamebreaking glitch as it makes the game really annoying and I can't get into it, it even lags when I'm speaking to people, and also in VATS which is really bad.

There are other glitches such as invisible walls, enemies getting stuck in rocks, me getting stuck in rocks, enemies floating in the sky etc... But I can live with these as they don't ruin my enjoyment of the game.

Gameplay constantly jumping/lagging and freezing does ruin my enjoyment however and I really wish they would fix it!

Somehow, my character has become addicted to ant nectar (desperate times). However, I cannot kick this addiction, no matter how many times i pay the doctor. This is very annoying because i can now carry hardly anything + im on hardcoe mode. Any ideas?

Have you tried Fixer? if that ddoesn't work someone suggested the followers of apocolypse at the old mormon fort? maybe it's not curable? something like this was in FALLOUT 2 but I can't remember.

If this is a bug as a lot of people seem to be going through the same thing without a valid fix, should pick up the Strong Back perk or anything that will help you carry more then what you are now. However, if this is indeed not curable then we are out of luck. If so this is not a bug.

Fallout 3 had the same problem with pausing itself for 2 seconds or so. Can't remember if the PS3 version of Oblivion GOTY did. Lag is most likely a drop in frame rate. This can be caused by a few things. They ported New Vegas to the PS3 poorly (Fallout 3 had that problem) or it's still the Gamebryo Engine. If it's the Engine not sure if it can be fixed. It's been around since Fallout 3 and Bethesda hadn't seem to get a fix around it before.

Lagging when you speak to people? as in there lips aren't sync with their voice? this happened in Oblivion and Fallout 3. Shouldn't happen too often, though.

Lag in V.A.T.S. has happened to me sometimes when there is a bit too much going on screen. Takes a while for it to pop up. How bad is it for you, though? Everyone seems to be different and it might be worse for you then for me. If that's the case hopefully Bethesda/Obsidian can come out with a fix of some kind.

Invisible walls are in a lot of games. Either put there to stop you from accessing an area you shouldn't or the developers didn't pay enough attention. Not sure how these walls work exactly. But that's usually the case.

I've had a few bugs that were fairly nasty, in XBOX 360 but probably on all platforms.

1) Trying to sell EQUIPPED faction armor will cause the dialog that you are no longer wearing faction armor appear behind the sale dialog, no way to get out of it.
2) Can't put bobble heads onto the stand after Yes Man installs the 2.0 O.S. in the female robot that deals with them, basically you are stuck with them in your inventory forever.
3) Follower gets stuck in wall or celling after moving through a door, mostly in vaults

So sad that Obsidian added so much needless complexity and so little stability!
Heres hoping Fallout 4 gets back in the Fallout 3 spirit!
