Bugs I've noticed in Daggerfall

Post » Wed Dec 22, 2010 4:10 am

I've heard about Daggerfall having tons of bugs, but I didn't realize how bad it was until I tried it.

First bug: I'm in free-look mode (mouse to look) and every time I save, the menu closes and I'm left with a pointer on my screen, can't look around with mouse. I have to load the game I just saved to get rid of this problem.

Second bug: I hit a bat in the huge room with all those stairs (after the first archer) and it just fell through the floor? It didn't die

Third bug: I try to rest, but it says enemies are nearby. I explore a bit, no enemies. I have to retract like 10 rooms before I can finally rest. A rat behind a door perhaps? Why should that impact if I can rest or not? Is my character really a scaredy-cat?

All in all, this is an awesome game! I actually jumped when I looked around in a room I just cleared and finding a skeleton warrior behind me. He came in from another door. Sheesh! Even doom 3 didn't give me this scare lol

Enter is the default key for using mouse activation, useful for throwing switches and other things that are hard to hit with activate on center command.

It's the void, at some point you'll become intimate with it, make sure to edit z.cfg and add the line cheatmode 1 so you can use alt-f11 to get out safely.

Generally if you can hear something you won't be able to rest.

"Generally if you can hear something you won't be able to rest."

The best way to set up a correct keyboard configuration in Daggerfall is to open z.cfg and replace controls betaplyr.dat by controls viewplyr.dat. This will set Daggerfall in mouse look mode with WASD keys already set. You then just have to switch to full screen to get rid of the unused bottom menu.

Incorrect. Cheat mode does not need to be activated to use Alt-F11. Alt-F11 always works. (Just be careful: falling damage accumulates as you fall through the void, and you will "impact" when you hit Alt-F11.
