2 Bugs, One creative Settlement Feature Suggestion

Post » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:08 pm

Hello Mr. Forums. I am Big M Unbroken, YouTuber, Entertainer, and Gamer. Let me just say, that for years i have played your products, Fallout 3, NV, Elder Scrolls and enjoyed them. I am currently loving fallout 4, bug or not. But as a gamer who wishes to enjoy your fine products, i must report certain flaws in the code so you can eventually fix them in the next big patch. First i will explain the first two bugs i've noticed, one game breaking, and another that's plain annoying. The rest are simply graphics bugs with character models falling out of the world or doing swimming animations...on land. Hilarious for some, including myself, but some rather prefer a "Perfect" Game, like there's such a thing. To the point, The first bug i wish to point out, is a bug that randomly crashes the game on rare occasions and without warning. While i can fix this up with simply setting the Pip boy to save every 5 minutes and quick save often, i'm afraid some people aren't as patient as I. This could mean consumer loss, but i'll leave that type of thinking to you. Second, and this one is really annoying, and long winded so get ready to read. In this situation, when i'm in the settlement, building, giving armor and weapons to the settlers, crafting or giving my power armors maintenance...yes i have more then one...three to be specific...My micromanagement system, which by default comes with the settlement feature, remains unchanged, except in certain cases regarding certain structures being built and the Recruitment settlement beacon. However, and this is the annoying part, when i'm away making supply runs for the settlement i currently oversee primarily, which is Sanctuary, the numbers on the map, when i hover my cursor over the location of Sanctuary, they change dramatically. What was 16, was then 32, population wise, that quickly, which by proper calculation is highly improbable, more appropriatly said, impossible. The happiness meter also changes dramatically. Everything in the managment system for settlements, does not shine red, which means everything is normal, and all micromanagment prerequisets, are met and filled. This i would refer to as..."The Fluxuation Bug" Or "Flux Bug" If you prefer. I would get to fixing both right away for the next Big Patch. And very soon. Now for the suggestion. I enjoy the game very well, and love managing the settlements, but wouldn't it be nice if you could simply Rename them by simply going into managment mode and placing down a sign that gives the town another name. Like sanctuary, it has it's own sign, but you could remove it and replace with another. And when you place it, you type what you want said on the sign. For a town sign, that would the name that would change the name of the town in the scripts and the map. Or it could be used for decor or maybe as a warning sign like "Raiders not welcome, f*&% off or die!" Either way, having a sign to put up and make words with would be a great idea, naming the town or not. Either way...it's only a suggestion. Happy Trails, Mr. Forums. :)

First off. Just a bit of advice, big walls of text typically turn most forum goers away, I'd try and break up future posts a bit.

That being said. I wouldn't exactly call your first bug game breaking, frustrating yes, but it doesn't prevent progression in any way. But yes should be fixed, luckily I haven't experienced a single crash.

Your second bug has been brought up around here a bit too and can by quite annoying if/when it occurs, and can make things a bit confusing if someone is really playing deep into the settlement feature.

Now onto your idea, it would be kinda neat to be able to name a settlement, but it would require all sorts of extra coding etc. that would just be way too much time and work for such a minor addition, especially since the settlement names are in some spoken dialogue and there's no way they could have all of the player created names be recognized. Hell Codsworth can't even recognize many common names.

Understandable. I just posted another. And i found out more about that Crash bug. And you are right, it doesn't break the game, but it gets worse when you enter lexington. for some this may be true, for me it especially is. but when you fast travel away, the crashes stop. none happen at all. so problem is in lexington. and some missions take place there. So yeah, though not much of a bother, and thankfully not game breaking, mos def needs to be fixed. i'll try and work on the title. never was good at making good topic titles. most are to the point. direct basically.
