build your own house

Sorry, but I agree with the above post. This is too 'Simsy.' It just doesn't seem to fit with the game, in my humble opinion.

It may be "Simsy" but it's realistic to be able to build your own house, provided you have the necessary means, so it should be included in the game IMO, They's just have to make it less, you know, "simsy"

I think this could be a fantastically awesome idea, but I don't expect it to be implemented in the vanilla release. Perhaps as DLC? Anyhow, I hope that the houses that ARE included have higher levels of customization than in Oblivion. I also hope that if we choose to save up for the huge house in the game they give us a cheap place to store our stuff until we can move it into our huge mansion.

Well, how about this? Remember the way you were able to build your house in Morrowind? You go out, find/buy/earn a deed or piece of land, and then through some fashion get a hold of someone to come out and build your place. Based on the money you put forth, you can pick certain options, like how you picked things for in Oblivion but a bit more decision oriented.
Size .style.Special features etc.
To top it all off, you could get some 'Blueprints', like some sketches done by someone that would show the finished version of the inside/outside of your home.
Just some thoughts that sounded not to bad. Not horrible atleast, and not really Simsy for those not interested in that stuff. You could customize to a point, and still get what you want. :foodndrink:
*did some snipping*

I thought this was a really interesting idea and brought my mind to the original might and magic games where you could buy additions for your castle that would be attacked every so often
Here, you'd get a basic sized house, put money into it and, (two different ideas here,) you choose the specific additions (wizard's tower, alchemist's lab, warrior's training ground) |OR| your additions are determined by the skills and perks you gain

All of the things you choose (furniture, additions, etc.) would be chosen from an in-game blueprint in a menu.

This would allow a minimal involvement, maximum enjoyment

PERHAPS: Every once and a while you get a quest update telling you your home is under attack and you get to defend it, again, tentative on that...

btw: I deserve a Fishy Stick...

The perks? "Too Fallouty"

The dragons? "Too Monster Huntery"

Playing instruments? "Too Guitar Hero-y"

Well, actually, we could play instruments, in Morrowind, on PC.

I would so love this. Building your own house in Skyrim? A combination of The Elder Scrolls AND Minecraft? It sounds almost too good to be true. Sniff. The beauty!

Now, if only they could splice all my other favourite games into Skyrim as well.

I think something like this would HAVE to be a mod. Bethesda probably doesnt have enough time left to add such an expansive, deep idea. Especially if they are going into crunch mode working on putting my trident into the game.

I'd rather you keep your "trident" out of my video game, thanks.

Sure, doesn't look like they'd have time to add something like this. But one can dream :(

I'm not dismissing it just because it was in the Sims. But I don't think the Elder Scrolls is, or ever should be about designing houses, crafting furniture, picking draqes etc... there are games like that out there, but it seems too mundane for TES. I don't think it could be implemented without being cheesy.

Easy to implement along the way craftybits do it for funiture.
First you need planks for a basic frame who shows the size of the house, you can move this around. Then you lock it and can add more materials like bricks or planks as needed for the different designs, then done the house is build.
It might have an container or menu for upgrades.
No it's no building mode everything is done ingame.

However I think this is better left to moders.

They could add buyable furniture, probably easier to implement than the house improvements in Oblivion. You buy the furniture as a moveable furniture mesh you can pick up. Drop it in your house, move it to correct position activate it and it lock in place and become useable and fixed. Sneak or block together with active pick it up or give you a menu.

I like the idea of building your house, I thought of the same idea while playing Oblivion. Somebody should make a poll about this.
