I need a critique of this build. I think all the parts fit together at first glance. What I'm not sure of is whether I should maybe go for a Haswell instead of Skylake for example. The 4690 is basically the same price. Or a cheaper SSD and bigger HDD?

I want it to be reasonably future proof.

Maybe getting a new graphics card next year after pascal has been released (if it ever does that is).

For the price in the UK it seems too good to be true so I'm worried I've overlooked something.

Thanks for any help.

I would probably go for a Nvidia based GPU instead of AMD. Nvidia GPU's are a bit pricier though, but, in my view gets your better performance. Of course, depending on what type of games you plan to play.

Other than that, I am not a big enough hardware nerd to say yay or nay 100% to the components you have chosen. Some of them are "no brainers" good choices, like the Samsung SSD (I have a 500GB EVO) and Kingston RAM.

You could try the site PC partpicker. There you can see if there is any known issues regarding compatibility.

Another site I like, is Logical Increments. Where I can judge where the estimated performance is, in regard to price and hardware.

I've only ever used AMD GPU but on my next upgrade / build I'll be going with nVidia.

An alternative choice:

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/9HhJvK

Add your CPU fan from Cooler Master and what ever fans you wanna put into your case.

It's a faster configuration!

Also that DVD drive you suggested above, is NOT a DVD writer - it's a DVD reader ONLY!

So, i changed that.

Yeah I ended up using PC part picker and changed quite a few things got a much better price.

I'm getting the 380 as it is great value for its power. I plan to upgrade to the new Nvidia pascal range. If that range ever comes. Then I'll upgrade to a ****lake processor at some point.

Yeah not a bad config. Not too fussed about writing on CDs. I only ever use the optical drive for reading. Although I did change my config a bit and have ordered a dvd reader writer instead from Amazon.

I changed my config to Corsair 300r windowed. Delivered today. Nice spacious case that will be good for future upgrades and airflow. The future proofing is why I chose the motherboard (DDR4).

I got rid of the cpu fan. I won't be overclocking, I'm pretty sure you can't on this CPU unless on a very few motherboards. It only needs to last me a year tbh. Same with a number of components like the GPU.

^^^And yeah I know about not getting an AMD processor haha.

Thanks for the advice guys.
