So I am building a base..

Post » Sat Dec 17, 2011 6:09 am

I started construction 2 days ago. I am using junk I find and dumping it at a secret location. I currently have thousands of random items all over in preparation for construction my problem is this stuff is to light, if I touch it, it moves, does anyone one know of heavier items that don't move around so much....

I now when I am close to the building site because the lag is ridicules..MATRIX!

Please post a screenshoot. Please!

many A fallout and nv junk homes but i dont think i could build one in skyrim, object placment is a hassel. i struggle to put books on there ends in skyrim, in nv i had, stairs, furinture ect all made out of objects. its great fun but you need alot of good shapes, i wish they put planks in as objects. best ive done so far is back to my ob basics, like inverted pot plus large plate equal side table/display stand, used to line corridors with these in ob, looks good im the right setting, the dawnstar base is a goood one for junk furniture looks good and is in dire need of filling up, anient nord plus dwemer bits makes good stuff ive found so far. i miss chess boards :(

A fox knocking your house over is hilarious to me. If you play on a console, the idea that you could Unrelenting Force it by accident while setting the controller down adds a layer of excitement.

If you're hanging out in your base and you hear the howl of a wolf, you better run out the door.

*genius idea: make a fort out of strictly wildlife. rabbits, goats, bears, cats, deer only. I will allow you to lean a giant against a tree as a chimney

Hmmm. If you are really ambitious you can jump into some dwermer ruins and use that stuff. Solid dweremer weighs 25, cogs are 10 and such. Levers or struts are 15.
Plus it willbe worth a fortune if you decide to forge stuff out of it.
You could have the most expensive house in Skyrim with ease!

Yeah, dwemer stuff is nice and heavy. It's also easy to get in large numbers. I collected dozens of cogs before I realized I can't put them in a smelter. Solid dwemer metal is extremely heavy too.

I had considered building things from dwemer ingots just because they're so shiny, but Skyrim has some of the worst physics-object handling since Doom III.

Cheese is a horrible building material. Don't bother attempting a cheese build.

An igloo made out of cheese wheels? That sounds deliciously difficult.

My house in Morrowind had the Masque of Clavicus Vile sitting mid-air opposite to the front door. I liked to think of it as Clavicus himself greeting me every time I went home.

You are going to ignore the advice of our resident junk builder?

Cheese is a horrible building material. Don't bother attempting a cheese build.

GO, I SAY! Perhaps you can succeed where others have failed. I believe in your ability, no, your god-given right to construct a cheese house!

You guys are bringing tears to my eyes :')

It hasn't happened yet. I just have huge piles of junk and a dream. I had a basket house with a shield roof but a fox knocked it over. Now I need heavier stuff...

I laughed until I cried, this whole thread is win, but that quote, I can't read it without laughing hysterically, if you don't mind, I'm putting that in my signature as a quote :P

By all means my friend. I really wish I had a save file right before that moment.

I was alone in the wilderness, I picked up another ebony shield and prepared its placement (about 5 feet away). I heard what I thought was a cry to my left, as I turned I was greeted with a curious fox. He just stood there for a moment as if he was admiring my creation. Usually such creatures would feel the cold end of my blade but I thought to my self, hey he is just a little baby fox, what could he possibly do, I am sure he will go about his merry way. I drop my shield so I could be weapon ready just in case....no sooner, the bastard darted at speeds that only bullets could match!!!! He didn't even pay attention that there was a door, he went though one wall and out the other wall....the house blasted apart as if a billiard game had just started.

The odd thing is I don't know what happened to the Fox. I am not sure if the contact plus all the action deloaded him or what....I couldn't find him. I tell you this, Every Fox I come across, no matter what, will be slayed!

A favor to me guys:

While you are playing and come across items, check and see how far item move if you touch them. If they hardly move let me know what that item is. The dwarves stuff is just to damn heavy and I can only get so much of it......I accidentally removed my custom waypoint and can't find all the stuff I had be for....Rrr.

Roaming around looking for Lag now...

Well a tip, if you haven't already, the sign of the Steed, which I think comes from a standing stone west of Solitude, will give you 100 more carry weight.

Good call, I will give it a try! Thanks!

Side note: I think " But a fox knocked it over." should replace "But I took an arrow to the knee." joke..just saying.

Have you tried using ingots? I know they're heavy, but they are sturdy, and don't seem to be easily moved or knocked over if piled correctly. That, and they have a good rectangular shape to them. Also, I may use that "I had a basket house with a shield roof" quote as a signature, if that's alright. MUCH better and original than the "I took an arrow to the knee thing".

I have kinda been debating the ingot thing. I feel like it would work...it just svcks that they are so small. I may start a wall and see how it goes. at least with ingots I could use different colors and that would look good.

Nevermind then.

Good thought re: different ingots. You could use all kinds of ingots to make walls of differing colors, or random ingots for a generally colorful base. Just think, a house made entirely of gold ingots! Or, if you don't want to waste the gold, but have a crapton of dwemer metal laying around, melt it down and use the ingots for a faux-gold look.

Dear lord. I sound like an interior decorator. Okay, going to go kill bunnies and dragons with an axe in an attempt to regain my masculinity. :gun:
