Building a new supercomputer

Post » Mon Dec 27, 2010 3:32 pm

Alright fellas, I'm building a new desktop, just about to order the parts but I wanted a few extra opinions before I click the order button.

Here's a summary of whats in my cart right now.

ASUS Sabertooth X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor
Kingston HyperX 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory
Rosewill BRONZE Series RBR1000-M 1000W "Compatible with Core i7, i5" Power Supply
EVGA SuperClocked GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) 012-P3-1572-AR Video Card

Now, this is all well and good however I'm a monitor freak. Meaning I play Eve Online and I regularly use 3 monitors while playing, currently split between a desktop and a laptop, I would like to have all 3 on one machine. What's the best way to go about this? Should I just get an extra 570? If I SLI them can I do 3 monitors or does SLI keep me at 2 monitors?...ty in advance.

This should be asked in the tech thread. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1145193-the-community-tech-thread-no-94/page__hl__tech+thread

Thanks, I didn't know there was a tech thread floating around. Is it possible a moderator can close this and move my post?

Nvidia cards allow two monitors with one card, three with SLIing 2 cards. ATi with eyefinity allows for 3 monitors with a single card.

Also, from everything I've heard Rosewill isn't a very good brand for PSUs.

I don't honestly know too much about them, I've been laptop gaming for a few years now, getting rid of my Asus G73 to build a desktop.

Do you have any suggestions in the way of psu's?

Best to just Report your own thread and ask for it to be closed. Or moved or if the title is borked. Anyway, any online Mod will see that and help you out. If you PM a mod, it might be hours before they get the message. I might be logged in, but not looking at the boards for instance.
