Building on a settlement : tips + shortkeys

Post » Mon Nov 30, 2015 4:31 pm

Hi, because I want to know and I am pretty sure a lot of other people will want to, how about posting here some tips or shortkeys on building on settlements ?

For now, can anyone answer the following questions on the above ?

1) What are the usable/assignable shortkeys when you have selected the building componant ?

First, can you change those keys and if so how and where ?
- rotate left/right :
- move foward/backard: :
- move up/down :
- precision changing (how fast you can move/rotate) :

2) How to easily connect pieces without having to try 10 times AND in the desired direction ?

3) While connecting pieces, are you stuck with 90% types of angles (0, 90, 180 and 270 degree angles) ?

4) Tips on building on steep/inclined landmark
The first example that comes to mind is building a fence. Sooner or later your fence will be on top of an steep/inclided area and that means your building componant will be either above ground or siniking in it. Post any tips to prevent or reduce this.

5) What are the differences/avantages/disavantages of either storing a building componant or recycling it ?
For example, will recycling it have it removed from the available parts ?
Storing it will make it as a new available part ?

6) How can you add a new available part ?
You have to build it first ?
What about objects you find on your settlement ? Can you add them ? ex: doghouse

7) How can you store multiple combined parts as one single building componant ?

8) If I am out of specific ressources, how do I resupply them ?

I open the crafting interface and I can't get it to do anything. I want to finish the game's Main Quest before I deal with Settlements anyway, so hopefully someone puts out a How To Video that covers the interface in the mean time.

The settlement building requires time, patience, and resources.

After that it's a powerful tool, for example growing food to sell for caps.
