Building in skyrim

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 10:10 pm

I like the idea of being able to hire people to build it, but we can choose from a set of designs and features, which will affect the cost.
...and then also select from different areas to build at.
It will take a little time to build, while we are of adventuring.

I really hope we can build a house in this game(unlikely though), also would be cool if you could build and run your own shop.

I like the idea. Though I am opposed ti a Two Worlds 2 style of building your OWN city. I have no qualms about building a house, or a town in general, just not MY OWN town.

I think you over thought it. We are not talking city size. Two different things. Also I didn't know you could do that in two worlds makes me want that game more. lol

I thought the idea behind minecraft was brilliant. We already have more advanced forms of crafting like smithing and woodcutting. No reason you couldn't easily mod this in.

Building house, boats. Even siege engines. Hire people to build stuff like mansions or large ships.

Please reframe from spaming. The poll clearly represents everyone. Unless you have a suggestion im reporting that post tomorrow when I get back on my computer. *in the nicest possible way*

First off. Spamming. Learn to spell it and learn what it means. Most of the people who you labeled as Spamers were merely disagreeing. The poll is biased because it lacks a true no option on both questions. There is "No, I want it to have this feature instead." Anyone who doesn't want that feature or the other options doesn't have a way to say "I want none of this." Also, the second question has absolutely no disagreement option so anyone who votes on the first question as no has to give a Yes to the second question. All you need to do is add an "I said no to question 1" answer for question 2.

Second off, This statement is in NO WAY threatening to report you. I am merely going to say that threating to report someone as you did in the post I quoted is reportable (under trolling/flaming I think). Once, again I am not reporting or going to report you, as I have faith that all the mods here are worth their salt and will do the right thing for any incident reported to them by investigating fully.

Finally to your idea. I would tone it down a bit but I like it. It is possible, yet challenging. I made a cave house that did something similar. It had one room but you could use the room for different purposes by "traveling time". there was a magic device that would move you to certain points in time while you were in the cave, and revert things to normal when you left. For example when you needed to sleep you would activate the magic and go to a date when bandits were using the cave as a hideout and had bedrolls on the floor. If you needed a vault you go to a different date to when a marauder warlord used it as a treasure trove, etc.

Firstly the second part of the poll should have an "I said no" option for it to work correctly.

Secondly, there was no point in picking on each other as all it does is bring the topic down and gets a moderator involved. So, what do you do? If you have a problem or something you perceive as a problem, you hit the report button. One of us comes along and deals with it as we see fit. Being called when everything has been going bad for some time makes us (well me) grumpy and more likely to close the topic and/or hand out warnings and send PMs. That's more work, and I for one want to sit here with my feet up and enjoy my cup of tea.

So guys, back on the topic, don't call me again on this. Thanks.

Well didn't thinky anything would be in there but it was. Anyway, the suggestion just has just that possible features. No sense leaving stuff out based on my confidence in them, never have never will. The poll shows who liked all the features, who liked a limited amount, and who didn't want any of it. The last one is opting for the default. Which is as we know fallout style crafting with skyrim smithing and jobs. But not much was discussed in the game informer on that. The second question was refering to those people who liked it. I didn't want to skew the results by adding a I picked no. I simply wanted to show who wanted to be involved in the building and who was fine with just watching over time. Since it was suggested to add a "I picked no" option it is now going up per request of Rohugh.

Thanks again Rohugh, sorry to bother you. Ill add that in. I didn't mean to appear as if I was picking on anyone though. :)

I apologize to everyone for not adding the second no option earlier. I completely forgot if there are two questions you must answer them both.

"Before everyone yells and screams about it not being possible you should know I am tailoring the suggestion from pc to console and blah blah. This is not a suggestion for a geck on consoles. Say that three times to yourself and take a deep breath. I know how riled up y'all can get about that."

? no, i just couldn't think of another system to build in game. I was just saying they could use a modified version otherwise it would just be dialog, not actually making your own house

I would love to see in the game some way to convert a snow cave into a permanent dwelling place, or perhaps some kind of Nordic Igloo if such a thing exists....

Would love to see an ice dungeon with some ancient monsters embedded in the ice that you can vaguely see through the semi-opaque walls.

There are already two topics on the subject but since this eeems more idetailed then I 'll give my idea:

My idea is that the player can think of a house but to me it is only one .....

you can always change house butin that case you have to sell the old one ... a house shoudl also be expensive meaning that you have to pay taxes for it ... and to upkeep you need a work or just get money once in while to pay it ....

The idea is that .....

there are severall regions and styles probably in Skyrim , then you can decide wich one you lik ebest , then you can go there and start buying a shack or what the finances allow you , then you can decide to upgrade or sell the house for a bigger one and expand ... eventually you may decide to have a Inside city house and develope it up to a rich manoor , or get an outside immediate country villa and decide to develope a sort of farm up to an eventually tenute ... or even to get a castle to oversee a certain pass or street or bay for example ... also according to the style of play you do you shoul dhave the house develope accordingly ... like a thieves den , a Wizard's tower or a Warrior's keep , as a choice or just have a civilian style common for all ...

SO like coul be :

Shack

Upgrade 1 Small house

Upgrade 2 House decide what to add to the house like a second room side a second floor an outruding window etc

Upgrade 3 Large House after completing all of the upgrades of level 2 or some of them then you could pass to eventually develope the house improving the roof , walls , enlarging the ambients and almoust rebuild it ...

Upgrade 4 Manoor / Villa / Tenute /Thieves den / Wizard tower / Keep

Upgrade 5 Severall upgrades decision mutually exclusive so no ultimate upgraded home will be the same of another ...

And anyway just one Home to care of after deciding where and what style ...

Plus after reaching a manoor level the same house coul dstart generate a revenue , have some servants inside and even some new quest openings....

Asside add ons there could be all the furnitures , and dishes and stuff that need to go in a house eventually you coul dhire a servant to do the work for you , and picking a specific style of interior design...

I would like to see something like the return of the East Empire Company type building from Morrowind (BloodMoon Expansion). It had a nice feeling to it slowly having a village grow and have to do quests to push the construction along because problems appeared. I wouldn't want to have some system of bulding it myself by using building blocks or positioning buildings and rotating them in a 'create a map' type fashion, that doesn't seem Elder Scrollian to me. What I believe fits this world best is the way the EEC was done, ask people to build certain structures in select locations and coming back to find it built.

The same could be said about the way the Houses in Morrowind had their buildings placed. Redoran, Telvanni and Hlaalu. Fixed place were thing's appear after you push that questline along that involves that location.

I have a feeling this sort of thing won't appear in the game though. Just sharing my thought but from the sounds of the situation going on in the world, do people really have time to build new locations or major new locations in a cold and harsh place like Skyrim? They'd probably be best creating extentions to towns rather than remote locations. Keep people safe and together. But I'm slowly drifting off topic so I'll stop typing now.

EDIT: I liked Oblivion's style of "building" though, although that was more like home improvement, but I enjoyed that and the way the games changed from Morrowind to Skyrim, I believe the Oblivion style of living in a building and paying for upgrades to the interior would work best for future games.

This map thing you talked about isn't really in the suggestion but I agree with you. The rest of it was the actual suggestion in brief, or at least the jist of it.

I have an idea, why don't we all become real-estate developers buying, flipping, and selling houses in Skyrim? We could make a lot money during this booming market, since by default when the Dragons return people will literally be giving their homes away in order to flee to Morrowind or some other province where the game's borders prevent dragons from flying to.

Hahaha, I'm joking if you didn't catch me.... hahahaha

Yeah I got that your joking but you should know that morrowind isn't what it use to be. Read the book that came out friend, you would be surprised.

Well I am sure if you didn't do the quest that towns would still get destroyed. In all honesty this feature itself would be like a "quest".
