Building a Successful & Extensive Load Order

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:41 am

Just one thing I am not clear on - EVE HGEC has a number of OMOD files (MMM, FRAN, OOO etc), but in the instructions it does not specify whether I need to install each one for FCOM? I tried to find info on this but was unable.

FCOM requires all EVE Download - Stock, Frans,MMM,OOO omod to be installed in order to work with FCOM.

Read the EVE HGEC Thread in my sig. Has it has more update to info espically bottom of first post In regards has what to use from EVE in FCOM..

Installed it. Thanks. You sure create a lot of things!

A repeat question - in OBMM on the right side, does the order there matter at all?

I don't know what I am doing wrong but I just can't get my races to become 'better' looking.

Trying all evening without success.

It's not an easy task. I suggest going on TESNexus, downloading a save file of the race you wish to use that already has a nice looking face, then importing it onto your save file with Wrye Bash. Otherwise you could go ahead and try to make your own...but it's not easy...

Also, enhanced textures is a MUST when making a pretty face. The crappy 256x256 default textures are just too horrendous.

As for the above mentioned modding bug, I'm afrait it's hard to get rid of. I had a mod set up of around 80 mods. Only the bare minimum included: DLC, UOP, MMM+OOO, LAME, SM, MMO, EE, Thievery in the Imperial City, Integration, Symphony of Violence, Darnified Darkui, RTT, Oblivion XP, RBP, COBL, Item Interchange, Atmospheric Loading Screens (with random quotes! I love it whenever a Nietzsche quote pops up!), SM plug-in refurbish, EVE, EVE for MM, EVE for OOO, All Natural, Automatic Timescale, Ayleid Steps...you get the idea. The thing is, for most people, the essential mods are MANY. And it's because of that, and the fact the list is always growing, that we overmod ourelves. As of right now, this mod list (134 files total, 85 active, 49 imported/merged):

is fine for me. However, rest assured that I'll find some new mod today or tomorrow, download it, add it, like it, keep it, and I'll be posting my new load order with that new mod included and say "This mod list (135 files total...): ... is fine for me."

Us mod freaks (and you too, if you become one of us) will never stop adding/making mods for a very long time. Hell, look at Morrowind. It's not easy to quit when you're this dug in, after all. Still, despite the insanity that is modding, it's something to be enjoyed. Part of the enjoyment is adding the mods in, part of it is playing the game. Learn to enjoy both, and maybe having a 400+ .esp file load order isn't what you'll end up with, but rather a 200(BARE MINIMUM!)-ish modlist will suffice.

Still, us men have to have our beautiful women in Oblivion. MOAR HGEC!

I must not be getting something here...

Okay, so I installed EVE HGEC, RBP and with those two I should have female characters with great looking bodies and also race diversity - right?

Also, regarding Ren's Beauty Pack - wouldn't it conflict with HGEC?

Maybe its too late here, cause I can't figure this out.

Ren's should work perfectly fine with HGEC. Mystic Elves use different textures from HGEC, but both rely on vanilla meshes (which are the modifed ones). I think you need to get HGEC textures for Mystic Elves to solve that, though. Still, they look fine regardless. I haven't used Ren's in awhile, ever since I switched to RBP (Hidden elves are essentially the same thing except have better abilities. Even the hair is included!). If you're using RBP, just drop Rens and go with Hidden elves on RBP. Or, if you don't want to drop it, then go download the HGEC textures and go from there. I can't link to them from here, though. I think they contain nudity (the horror!).

Race diversity is an *optional* plug-in for RBP, and it just changes the hair styles and eye colors of various different people. It might also change looks too, if you choose the beautification plug in. Not like XEO, though. People still look natural. ^^ Also, the mythical "females with great looking bodies and also race diversity" is a bit impossible. Sure, the bodies will look great, but in my opinion, the vanilla faces have always been (and will always be) horrendous. Making everyone in game pretty is a bit hard. XEO does it...but with a multitude of other problems as well.

Question - many companion mods require Exnem, would it be possible to use HGEC in its place? HGEC is suppose to originate from Exnem - no?

*Theoretically* yes. I wouldn't know all the details, however, so you should be wary of exactly what the companion comes with that could possibly make it incompatible.

Still working out the bugs. Specifically EVE HGEC & Race Rebalancing Project mods are in conflict FCOM and often winning (looking at TES4Edit). Reading the FCOM instructions, it suggests such beauty packs etc should go near the bottom so everything seems to be in the right place. I have not overridden BOSS except on files it did not recognize.

Anyways, curious if anyone else has FCOM as well as HGEC & RBP installed and if so, if they experience any issues.

Thanks

I had all three installed at one point, with no issues whatsoever. Can you elaborate on the troubles you're having?

In TES4Edit, I am able to see how the batch file works. In conflicts (where a number of mods try to modify the same thing) it choose the last. I see scores of conflicts in my TES4Edit and a number of them have to do with FCOM files where HGEC or RBP 'Trumps' it - another wards the FCOM file does not make it through to the batch but instead the RBP or HGEC file does.

I am not good on 'mod terms & language' so I hope you are able to understand.

Many of the conflicts seem miniscule but before I went in there and started editing things - I wanted to see if there was a more simple method of dealing with these conflicts.

Question:

My game only seems to be able to load so many KB at its start without crashing when starting up the game. (i.e. not related to the number of esps. I can upload 5 10kb esps, but not one 200 esp without taking another esp comparable to that ammount-150kb or more) Is this simply system limitations I'm hitting, or is there something somewhere I need to alter?

Ray007-

why are you going to edit FCOM, RBP, or any other so called well supported mod? As stated by several above conflcits are the name of the game - seen differently your load order is nothing but a giant list of conflcits.

For instance if you use Bobs Armory or Armamentarium then these mods will alter weapon stats to be different from both Vanilla (unmodded) and FCOM. The FCOM patches exist mostly to get the new and existing weapons that those two mods alter and put them back in line with what FCOM proposes and hence why these patches are placed after these mods in the load order.

FCOM itself completely conflcits with Vanilla oblivion - it is just that if conflicts in a very specific and designed way and the conflict winner (FCOM) is the desired winner. Mod users should not be opening tes4edit and freaking out about the red - unless of course that after playing the game that they don't see the winner they want winning the conflict. And that of course leads back to a point I've made numerous times.

Sometimes though a patch is not necessary and having one mod win is enough. the patches for FCOM often serve to bring content added by one mod back in line with a previously loaded mod. But it can be just as fine to have a mod added that simply wins and does not need to be brought back in line with a previously loaded mod. This is simplifying the point to almost absurdity, but how it works.

Yes there are some edits that can b e made here and there - but they are very few and far between and totally not recommended if you have not yet played the games with the mods loaded.

Fiore1300-

that sounds like a system thing. but what are you specs. also might be worth asking on the hardware page.

My understanding is that no one load order is alike. There could be conflicts which would arise with additional mods added after the FCOM recommended ones.

Not having much experience with TES4Edit, I wanted to be careful by asking if others encountered similar 'conflicts'. In some cases, the conflicts were not won by a FCOM file but another that came after.

As for playing the game, you yourself said that a person could end up playing for hundreds of hours then game crashes etc. So would it not therefore be prudent to ensure not critical problems exist?

Anyways, I am still combing through the TES4Edit line by line and learning how it works.

All of that info though won't be of much value unless you see how it plays in game environment.

If BOSS gives a load order - then try it. I'd say 95% it is right.

Consider FCOM the ground work and the 200 other mods your eying as what your going to build on top of that. It should not be that FCOM is the winner in all cases (otherwise the advice would be to have it load last). The patches that are necessary are suggested over and over and anything that says OOO patch of FCOM patch should be used (but not always).

If you think that all records of any mods loaded after FCOM should match FCOM in all instances then you're deluding yourself. That isn't going to make things more stable. And also then why add anything as you are just compelled to revert it back to FCOM anyway.

Later loading mods that are OK to use with FCOM (and that is a LOT of mods) don't necessarily need be in line with FCOM - they need to overwrite some parts of it. What exactly depends on what your trying to do. magic, stealth, and combat mods should load well after. Landscapes is a whole other issue.

Your now diving into the issues between race mods and body mods. Basically load RBP last (or any patches as per BOSS last). Roberts male and eve prior to RBP as per BOSS. Give yourself time then you can do something like this: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=957424&view=findpost&p=14821556

basically there is only so much preperation you are going to be able to do to avoid issues of CTDs or other issues because each load order is different. It is better to handle these issues as they arise and the skillset you learn from that (of debuggin and the patience of tracking the problems down) is more valuable than the obssessive wishing that it can be perfect prior to playing. The perfection is not had from preperation but from the process of learning how it works slowly. Even then you learn there is no perfection - only a series of slight improvements over time.

Aside from that strange message whenever I try to rebuild patch - when I do start the game, I no longer have any hair styles to choose from.

Hmmmm, I'm no professional on python error messages but it appears to me that perhaps you have an eye that doesn't have a defined mesh.

I do know that somewhere along the way the modders created custom races with split eyes instead of one eye texture (to make odd eyes possible....i.e. of different colors on the same character).
I am not sure if that would be the root of your issue as it references an eye mesh, and not a texture but it may be part of the issue.
As for no hair styles to choose from I have never seen that issue.
Are you saying that even the stock Oblivion hair styles are missing?
I would look again at the files that need to be loaded to have the custom races you are trying to install.
I am pretty sure that COBL, and Beautiful people both have a resources pack (master .esm file) that needs to be installed with the .esp. I would start there. Perhaps straightening out he hair issue will also provide the missing resources for the eyes as well.

1. Ask a wry bash question in the wrye bash thread: http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=1039107 the surest way to get that answered as specifically as possible.
2. List what mods you have installed.
3. tell us what mod you are trying to install newly that has since given the error (and that you didn't have with the above already working load order).

Are you trying to add a race mod above and beyond RBP (or COBL Races)? Are you sure that you also downloaded and installed the resource pack for either RBP or COBL races ... or whatever race it is?

details tell the story.

My solution for bash problem - was to eliminate whatever it named as the source of the problem. So instead of trying to locate a missing texture, I simply deleted that character - I had to delete 2 CM Partners before I was able to rebuild a patch again.

As for not having any hair options, I haven't been able to correct that yet. I have played with the positioning of Ren's Beauty Pack - just placed in under RBP to see if that would do the trick - will let know shortly...

Psymon, I did add some races, but mostly CM partners.
I did however add a number of other mods I felt looked interesting. I tried to do as much due diligence to ensure they did not conflict. My biggest worry though is the open cities mod cause that change seems like it would have reverberations through many mods.
