Buildings? What one's don't you see?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 4:17 am

Hi guys,

Okay so, I was scouring the wastes of Fallout 1, 2 and 3 and I have noticed something, that probably very few have, Out of all the buildings left around (Especially Fallout 3), That there is no banks around, "How is this possible? The huge vaults they have for the money and none are left? What someone after the war came around with an evapourator ray and got rid of them?"

So to the point,

What do you think of this and what other buildings / Remnents should be around?

Me myself I think there should still be MANY bank vaults left around, and alot your character can get into.

Not much point raiding bank vaults - prewar money is no longer used as currency. It's possible that bank vaults collapsed, not being designed to withstand the force of collapsing rubble that would result.

I'd have liked to have seen more Vaults (as in, Vault-Tek Vaults). It would have been nice to see another that was 'normal' (or like Vault City) and not a total mess, good job in Fallout 3 dear ol' dad knew to choose Vault 101 and none of the others, eh?

there is alot of buildings missing, banks, gun shops (well the US could have had harder gun rules in this timeline and there was rioting and what not), car-washes, dry-cleaners (i cant remember the name, those shops that wash your clothes.), electronic shops, furniture-shops, and others.

Yes there is! You can sell that pre-war money for caps (I think it's worth 3 caps each but I might be wrong).

Its sold as a curiorisity, not as a means of financial transactions. Heck, Zimbabwean money in the real world has more value than pre war currency in fallouts.

Bolding mine! Can't buy anything with pre-war money. Caps are the only currency. So what's the point of trying to get loads of pre-war money? Might as well spend your time looting more valuable stuff.

Its actually very worthwhile because a stack of Pre-War money, because you never find just a slip of money anywhere, is worth 10 caps. They also have no weight so it becomes much more advantageous to rob a bank in FO3 than salvage electronics.

If a bank vault survived a nuclear bomb, you would not be able to get in them with a lock pick...
Not to mention they would be covered i the rubble of the rest of the bank.
You have not thought this through.

Also how many banks are there in DC?
Now how much of DC is left be seen?
Now how likely is it the building would survive?

It would be very unlikely to be able to get to a Pre-War bank vault unless you have a digger...
Yes banks would be in sight but, be able to get to them?

Also, DC should be alot worse off than it is made in Fallout 3... Be thank full there are buildings even stood up.
Nuclear bomb's pressure waves do not do good for structures with high centers of gravity...

I mean no offence here but...

Are you serious? Or you taking the mickey?

The Whitehouse was Ground Zero for the Chinese nuclear attack on DC - its correct that its not there; that its just a giant smoking crater. Goodness.

Actually we can only really assume there was one high-yield nuclear weapon, rarely used, if at all, in the Chinese nuclear arsenal, used for destructive purposes alone, since there was only one ground zero, low-yield nuclear weapons and neutron bombs, both commonly used in the Chinese nuclear arsenal, would have mopped up other targets surrounding DC. This would have been more advantageous for an enemy to use especially as technology progressed and the war for resources heated up, why destroy what you will need?

Now, I'm no physicist, but suburban and rural areas being as destroyed as they were only made sense because of the warfare in the region over the 200 some years after the Great War took place, from what happened in Nagasaki and Hiroshima we know how the blast radii work and how they can be intensified based on their yield. There should have been more than one ground zeros, therefore the use of neutron bombs would have been more plausible.

If that were the case for every building, maybe, but it isn't. Not just banks are going to be inaccessible. I would think the bank vaults, on the other hand, would survive nuclear blasts, and not all covered underneath rubble, not just office buildings.

I'm a bit dissapointed with D.C. Structures like the world war II memorial, the F.D.R memorial, and others have no reason to not be there. The F.D.R memorial would have made a great area to fight a battle.

but one also has to assume that the bombs the chinese were using weren't as fully destructive because most likely, if the chinese remnants found around the wasteland is any indication, the designs were stolen and copied by the chinese who most likely had less than high quality production factories. thus, the buildings could still be standing and not have been fully destroyed. *shrug*

my 2 cents...

No, I was just joking. I was probably the biggest target in DC. I'm surprised that theres not more craters there than just one.

Forget the banks, DC's got a mint.

I would have liked access to the FBI building. Think of the fun you could have hacking in there, looking up the records of famous "seditionists" from history. :D
