Built a pc for Skyrim, ready to go nuts..But need help!

Post » Sun Mar 22, 2015 7:57 am

Just got done ordering the parts for a pc which should be able to run any and all Skyrim mods. However, I have NO idea where to start!

Can anyone point me in the right direction for a guide? What do I need to know to get started? I plan on completely overhauling the visuals (PC was built around a gtx 980) in addition to the gameplay.

Thanks in advance, and if I missed something already in the forums and am just wasting space, feel free to let me know.

Keep in mind the matter how much money you spend on building a PC there's no such thing is running all the mods. Skyrim is poorly optimized for multicore CPUs and the engine itself has limitations.

At one point regardless of hardware, performance is often dictated by the quality and the type of mods you choose. Even more so is the experience of properly configure your mods by creating your own compatibility patches and cleaning mods.

I should have been more clear- PC is built (and I realize I won't be able to run everything given the scope of what's been accomplished in the community.)

I was more hoping for some help in regards to installing mods. Help with installation and loading orders, what do I need to know about ENB, compatibility issues, etc. I've always been primarily a console gamer, so this is my first step into the world of modding.

I'm sorry I didn't fully read your post. I'm exhausted and have gotten much sleep obviously.

This guide is no in so much of what mod to use but how to go about moddling Skyrim.

Good place to start http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56894/?

Once you're done with that post back here and will start discussing what mods to add.

If you want to know more details about mods checkout Gopher's videos on the subject. Have fun I just finished my gamingPC about 8 months ago. Best thing I ever did to spice up my games.

I just upgraded my system to the specs in my sig and it's SOOOOO nice being able to use those nice hd textures (1k for environment, 2k for weapons and armors, 4k dragons) and maintain above 30fps with expanded towns, open cities, and a decent ENB. Currently capped at 40 fps and love it.

Thanks for the help, all! Another question:

I know it's overkill for what I'm trying to do and I spent more money than I needed to. But with a i5 4690k/gtx 980, what are some of the top end visual mods I should target once I'm up and running?

I'm trying to educate myself regarding the different ENB presets and Gophers videos have been FANTASTIC. Also, for the time being, I'll be in 1080p for the time being.
