Bullet time (for cinematic finishers)

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 9:34 pm

Only when firing from a long range without being seen, and if attacking a camp full of bandits for example, the first shot might activate a bullet time feature.

I think finishers could add a little extra spice, provided there are many of them (not just one for every weapon/enemy combination as perhaps implied in the article) and they're not too frequent. But NO slow motion.

(When I say bullet time, I'm referring to the Max Payne thing when the camera follows the bullet, not the overall slowmo-thing.)

Sorry but I really don't like slowmo and I can't really put my finger on why. I hated it in Fallout, drove me mad when I was pulled out of the action to watch my enemy slowly fall over. Like people have previously posted it's simply a matter of taste. If you can switch slow mo off then fair enough put it in, I can always switch it off while others that want it can use it. No VATS though please.

Real time finishers are fine, occur when killing on a critical hit that kills maybe or on certain enemy NPCs and such. I think they should make it rare enough to were is still feels like a treat to see it.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good finisher but overkill on slow mo / kill cams become real old real fast.

I like them. But they should be rare. Dragon age did a good job with it I thought.

No for me, but with a toggle, like in NV, because I know some people like it. In Fallout, it breaks the rhythm of the combat for me, and it's kind of distracting. My mind is thinking about who is next, do I turn left or right, where was that other enemy; and then I have to wait for a cinematic. I'll turn it on occasionally, but I usually keep it off.

I am not a fan of slow mo kill animations. Usually they go like this, I am disemboweling Bob in slow mo and it looks awesome. And meanwhile I am stuck in the long animation and in slow mo Bobs friends kick the crap out of me.

They had this in DA sometimes when you did a finisher move on the final monster, and i always used to think "urgh hurry up already" it's really annoying, and it gets old very fast, i believe it was "cool" for 5 seconds of the game.

though i suppose that was mainly due to the fact that your followers would do it too and you would suddenly find yourself walking towards something really slow, god i hated that.

I think its a good idea to have on the occasional kill. However, seeing that a number of people seem to dispise the bullet-time/slowmow concept as being immesion breaking, just put in a toggle to give those people the option to turn it off. Then everyone is happy.

Wait, so there are cinematic finishers? =/ I hope it's possible to get rid of them, because it'll probably get tedious after a while (I turned off the real-time VATS thing in New Vegas because of this).

cutting off heads and cleaving people in two boring, that won't happen

but we are gonna get a lot of variety (finisher for every weapon/enemy type) so there is little chance of repetitiveness

I'd like to occasionally see a bullet time effect after using a finisher, and for this bullet time effect to be toggle able and not change the players perspective, and for it to be relatively fat (don't want a single killing animation to take any more than 1 or 2 seconds).

it happens so much in fallout NV I had to turn it off :(

especially when throwing grenades AT RAD SCORPIONS its like I pressed the "I want to die button" as I throw the grenade all the other scorpions kill me :(
