Mr Burke

Post » Tue Apr 13, 2010 10:04 am

Hi there, first time poster on this forum although I've been playing Oblivion for the past year. Bought FO3 as an alternative to Oblivion and am enjoying it but am getting frustrated over the local map. However I did a search and found a thread where many people have the same frustration so will not add to it here.

Anyway, to the point. I haven't met Mr Burke but am keen to meet him as I got a note about a contract from some assassins which says something about Mr Tenpenny (spelling?) being unhappy with Mr Burke that I'm still alive. I decided to go and meet Mr Tenpenny and persuaded his guard in his Towers to let me see him. However, there wasn't any dialogue options available where I could ask him why he had a contract out on me.

Oh, I broke into Mr Burke's house in Megaton but he wasn't there nor in any other place such as Craterside Supplies, Moriatys etc.

I haven't killed Tenpenny yet but wondered what my alternatives are. It's a bit much he has this contract out on me. I'm feeling some sympathy for that local mutant at the moment...

Thanks.

Not much you can do or find out about the hit squads I'm afraid. I also presume you disarmed the bomb if Burke has dissapeared?

The wikki link will explain all, but don't read too much about the Ten Penny Tower side quests, it leads up to one of those nice grey areas that we all love!

Ah, thanks for this.

Yes, I disarmed the bomb so I could have a house to store stuff (although I can't afford all the upgrades and theme yet). So that's why I can't find Burke..

Will I get bad karma if I side with the ghouls (as Tenpenny already has evil karma)?

PS: Sorry about wrong forum.

if you directly kill the humans in the tower, you will get bad karma. but if you find a peaceful solution, you won't.

The tenpenny tower quest is one of the more ambiguous quests, karma-wise, in the game. Save before you begin because it is easy to get bad karma when you think you should be getting good. You migh want to play it several different ways.

Don't worry about that contract. It's one of the random encounters in the game that occur in certain areas, and that particular one will only come up once and never again. So once you defeat those mercenaries, the contract is essentially ended. However, if your Karma turns to Good, you will run across the Talon mercenaries again as someone now has a contract out on you for being Good. It's never made clear who issues that contract though, it's someone who simply doesn't like "do-gooders". There is a corresponding group who will target Evil characters, I forget who they're called now, and both groups will appear at various locations as you travel around throughout the game. Only Neutral characters can avoid being hunted down by some mercenary group. As for Mr. Burke, once you disarm the bomb you will never see him again. At least I've never come across him anywhere.

Not only that, but either way you proceed it comes out as a no-win situation. Unless of course you don't mind having bad karma. If you try and do the "right" thing it will still turn out badly in the end, though you don't get the blame for it. I just ignore that quest completely now.

I do have good karma as I helped the ex-slaves against the slavers at the Lincoln Memorial and every time I come back to Megaton people stop and thank me and give me little presents like stimpacks.

Hmm, seems like I should leave this alone...

OK, thanks everyone I'll do just that.

I didn't have the experience in Explosives to disarm the bomb at the beginning of the game, so I just told the mayor guy that Mr Burke wanted me to blow up the town. Together, we went and had a talk with Mr Burke, this discussion ended with me beating him to death with a wood plank. (Good Karma!) I still get the occasional merc group but there's been no mention of Tenpenny having a contract against me, in fact, he and I are on very good terms
