Buses and You

Meh thugs aren't that scary you just got to be street smart if one of them notices you're staring at them just nod your head and say whats up, they usually say whats up back and mind their own business. Just don't show any fear around people, predators pick up on fear and it well draw attention to you, its the way of nature. If you remain confident and just mind your own business people aren't really going to bother you.

I did, but for some reason they like to start crap with random people not even looking in their direction, I remember this middle aged guy got on and they started to have a little name calling.

When their by themselves they don't do anything, but the little punks act all big and bad when theres 3 or 4 of them.

Trick I learned: Carry a pack of cigarettes with you at all times, even if you don't smoke. If a group of people look like they're going to start something, take one out, ask them for a lighter, and offer cigarettes to the group.

I'll include that in my bag of tricks.

Only problem is I don't smoke and don't plan to make a habit. Guess I could pretend to inhale if something like this happens. But thankfully I don't ride TARC anymore.

Unless I have to go downtown again for school.

It's mostly for in foreign countries if a group of police/soldiers try to give you an "instant fine", but it applies closer to home too.

I've seen the power of smoking at work. See a dude get pissed off at his supervisor and come back smiling like nothing happened after his break.

May I ask what's TARC and not be called an idiot? Is that what they call the busses in Europe or something or a different part of the U.S.?

I've never had problems with little punks or thugs err whatever in groups. I usually just say whats up to people if the look like trouble and that usually works for me. Or I just don't say anything at all and nobody notices. Maybe its because I live in America and people are afraid to call others names because they're afraid of getting shot. Or maybe because I smoke maybe that's what it is :P

I mentioned this before but my friend knocked somebody out on a bus for being a little punk. There was this punky kid who was flicking his ears, and he yelled at him to stop and he kept doing it. Before you know it he turns around and socks the guy in the face and knocked the guy out. The entire bus was staring at him and he got off on the next stop.

I don't know those kids or punks or whatever are probably going to learn the hard way that its not wise to be calling people names. Its kind of common sense not to mess with strangers you don't know if they're carrying a gun or a knife.

I answered my own question I googled it... http://www.ridetarc.org/ It seems to be the bus system in Indiana and Kentucky. I thought it was Europe for some reason I guess I was wrong. They call it the RTC (regional transportation commission) here in Las Vegas.

I think it works rather well. As long as they don't get hacked that is.

Works fine for me so far. And sometimes the thing in the bus doesn't work so I can just ride for free. Not that it wasn't already free for me in the first place.

That way I also don't have to think how many 'strippen' I have to use when I take the tram, and people don't have to ask the bus driver to do that, so people can get on the bus much faster.

We have the same kind of thing here, they do make things a lot faster, but they have this infernal voice that says "PLEASE TRY AGAIN" every time it doesn't read the card, which it does over and over and over again.
At least it doesn't do the "PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO TAG OFF" that it used to, if there was a queue of just a few people all you could hear was "PLEASE TRY ... DONT FORGET ... AGAIN ... TAG OFF" constantly. I'm surprised the drivers didn't all commit mass suicide.

Until a parent gets on with three kids and has to stand there trying to get each card to be 'read'. Even worse for grade school classes, with a teacher trying to scan in thirty kids..

Also, I'm hearing rumors of software online that with a card reader can top up the card illegally. Never had that problem with the old strippenkaart, since specialized printing equipment is/was needed to print the things..

digital products are easier to forge.

When will the idiot powers-that-be finally realize this?

Hmm. How much money can you transfer and what's the average ticket cost?
I'm always against stuff like this. It just leads to more money spent than you are actually required to, sometimes even big data collection and such. Bleh.

Buses are fine, sometimes they can be confusing though, especially if you're drunk/very tired then instead of getting on the right bus you get on one that takes you in the opposite direction... happens to me a lot :P

My weirdest bus experiences are from last summer when I used greyhounds to travel in the US (Vancouver-Portland and then Portland-San Francisco). I met some crasy people on these buses, I also remember the smell coming from the back of the bus

Yeah, nope.
A card encrypted with AES-256 would take longer than the universe has existed to brute-force.
A key can have all its valleys filed down and used to open any lock of the same kind...

That's the real problem, people think "I haven't been broken into, that must mean I don't need any security, that means I don't have to spend money!"

Only advice, which never fails, is to arrive at least 10 mins early to the bus stop. Bus driver ethics vary. Some prefer to be ahead of schedule, while others are by the book..and some are just late.

I take the bus to work; my city's buses are pretty reliable. You get a strange mixture of people riding the bus -- the young, the physically handicapped, the mentally ill, the poor, on and on (though they don't seem to get out of hand usually). The main thing that bugs me is having to listen to their conversations.

I haven't had many incidents on the bus, with the exception of the kid that lunged over my shoulder to steal the cellphone out of the hand of the guy sitting next to me. He had timed it so that he could run out the back door. A stupid thing to do, I figure, since there was probably a camera on the bus -- how would he dare to use the bus again?

There are usually discount fares for students.

LOL That made me laugh its so true...
SNIP
That reminds me of a time I was going to a gas station to buy a pack of smokes which was near a bus stop. I leave the gas station and there was a bunch of cop cars and an ambulence heading towards the bus stop. Then I look over at the bus stop and saw a lovely site of a dead guy and blood all over the side walk. I decided it was best to just leave and pump my gas at another gas station. Great day that was.

I'm so glad I own a car.

I think we've scared the poor kid into riding the bus...

Damn that's crazy. I've never seen a dead in an uncovered crime scene, always after the cops have sealed and covered the scene / bodies.

Riding the Grey hound is also always another vortex of weirdness. So many insane moments on public transportation. Getting there is half the fun.

I took a bus in Thailand and the trip was like 20+ hrs with transfers / layovers etc. Horrible at the time but epic nonetheless. :) Third world public transportation is always a bit crazy.
