Has anyone actually figured out what that business ledger inside the thieves guild is used for?

I know the purpose outside of the theives guild is for the numbers game side quests but I can't seem to find a use for the one inside the thieves guild regardless of status.

I figured it is just for 'display purposes' so the guild master can check the books.

Every business has a business ledger.
