@Merari: You don't need a sword, you are Dragonborn and you can use your fists!

Bashing doors isn't actually that realistic because doors are generally heavy and hard to kick down.

it would work if you are a badass dragon born :toughninja:

Well yes how I can forget thats
During the Conquest of Morrowind, the Nordic war chiefs were also Tongues (Derek the Tall, Jorg Helmborg, Hoag Merkiller). They needed no typical siege weapons when attacking a city as they merely used the Voice to break down the city gate and allow their armies to storm in.

Yup, they really need this. Use that axe to bust the lock on the door!

And of course the guards should come running if you do this in town. This is an alternative to lockpicking, not a replacement. You shouldn't need to be in the same load screen to do this either, just do it like Daggerfall did.

Would be awesome... give warriors their own way of opening chests. Of course, it would have to vary in effectiveness depending on the material, the type of lock, and the weapon used. Like other people have said, it should be very noisy as well and alert npcs.

yeah, it would be very fun alternative, especially for those that aren't very good at lock-picking. Though, I suggest that they don't go robbing homes with that method lol

idk. u should be able to kick, and bash doors down with weapons! :D i think blowin a door open would be a lil extreme, but totally necessary :) the old method of knocking only works when ppl are home n isnt scary enough :(

When I played Neverwinter Nights way back in the day, it always pleased me that I could bash through doors and containers.

I say put it in.

Would you like to be able to bust down doors, when you fail at a lock pick? You really want to get into a house, but simply don't have the lock-picks......why not kick the door down? :toughninja:

Of course it would attract a lot of attention if you do this, so be prepared :bolt:

What is your opinion on it?

For those that have never played daggerfall, here is some gameplay that you can see from the game. You also can download it for free somewhere, so you can play too. The game is a lot of fun trust me=P

It's trendy now in dudebro games like CoD, so it would certainly give Skyrim even more mainstream appeal.

Not really my intention but yeah, I guess it would give it more mainstream appeal. I would like it for the nostalgia

waste of resources

Why does everybody say this about everything?

They could probably just devise a formula factoring your stamina, damage, and weapon skills into removing a certain amount of points from the lock strength when bashed. Upon hitting 0, the lock has effectively been picked. Aside from animations and perhaps having to balance some areas, I don't see it as a big deal. Perhaps if they wanted to really push the envelope, an "is bashable" flag could be added to keep certain areas off-limits without the proper key or quest.

I personally felt that dealing with locked containers/doors in Oblivion was far more frustrating than in Morrowind, if only because spell scrolls seemed far harder to come by. Just bring back lock bashing!

I'd like to see this
It fits the TES-style of allowing multiple ways to solve problems. Not every character uses magic or has thieving skills
Plus its just annoying when something so obvious isn't included
