One dear to me and I were discussing the difference in taste.. I grew up on margarine, I can't taste a difference.
He grew up on butter and thinks margarine is a smelly, vile, pot of nasty..
What say you?

I use margarine for certain recipes but most of the time butter is way better.
Butter can be used for anything, you dont put margarine on bread. It can be accepted to use margarine to fry things in a pan, but even then Butter is better.
Butter is the best. Butter Eating Master Race.
There's something very empty about the taste of margarine. I prefer to use butter.
I use both.
Butter for cooking, margarine for spreading on bread. My butter, even if left out is always too hard and just tears the bread. I live in a basemant suite by the ocean...surrounded by trees...I wear sweaters if I'm just sitting around, even during the summer. (As soon as I walk out to the street you feel the temp rise, drastically at times.) So leaving butter out does not equal soft (spreadable) butter here.
If I had to pick one over the other, I'd go with butter though. MMMM, butter...
