Buuilding new computer - advice

Post » Sat Jul 17, 2010 3:20 am

Hi yall, my desktop died about a year ago and the laptop I have is great for everything but gaming. I've finally gotten the money together to buy a new one and the first game I'm going to install is Fallout 3. I can not freaking wait to start a new character with the best visual mods. And get back into Oblivion.

Anyway, I love these boards so I'm posting here to see if any finds a big flaw in my build. I'm trying to keep it under or around $1500 total...this is about $1585 without shipping. I already have a great 24" monitor and sound system.

The motherboard is designed for triple channel memory. You should go for three sticks in there so it gets maximum performance. Either 3x1GB for 3GB total or 3x2GB for 6GB total.

Ok, thanks Starforce9, never occurred to me. Your profile image prompts me to ask - do you think there's an AMD Motherboard/CPU combo that would work just as well? Curious because their gear seems to be a good $50 or more cheaper in each category.

I personally prefer AMD over Intel. A good build that I would recommend would be:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131655
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145260 (AMD uses dual channel memory still)
This would be fine for games.
