Buy it on release or not?

I thought about getting it on Steam, my only problem is if mods will be compatible with the Steam version

Few days after, PC only. But I'll try to get any collector's edition that gets released.

Few months to a year afterwards, after patches/mods are out and the price drops. PC only.

Generally I rarely buy games when they are first released, and I pass them up altogether if they involve multi-player objectives because the game will be dead within a month of release most times.
If I can get to the store before it's sold out I'll pick up Skyrim. I haven't read half of the information released about the game already but I'm convinced it'll have a ton of choices of play style. I'm not really worried about the Elder Scrolls losing it's RPG style but an improvement of the action of the game playing out sounds like it will be terrific. The quest system sounds like you can get a random quest so it won't be just be going after one story line you can play out the game a bunch of different ways without getting bored.
Honestly I am probably just pretending to sound reserved about wanting to get TESV. I'm going to rush to the store on 11/11/11.

Steam is a good point!

I'm hoping it will be so you can buy it in store and activate it on Steam to download as well (so you don't have to use the disc). If you have to use the disc to play with the store version for the PC I'd be very tempted to get it on Steam.

If it's great, I'll buy it a few days after release. If it's not great, I'll buy it at some point. If it's terrible, I'll wait a while for the modding scene to whir up.

However it goes down, however, I'm buying the game.

It will be a day one if I have the money for it, otherwise it'll be a Christmas gift.

Yeah good idea, i think you can do this with some EA games on pc actually, so wouldn't be a hard thing for Bethesda to do. And @PhYoshi, thats what i will probably do, read reviews and wait for mods/patches to be released.

Where is the "buying it the second it's released on Steam and playing it an hour later" option? ^_^

I guess it's included in the hell yeah midnight option?

Surely on release, PC/Steam, as I'm used to play TES in english and the spanish translation will probably be....Oblivion's quality.

I pray that the physical Collectors' Edition has nothing of interest for me. If not I'll probably buy both :P

Yup, but my case is worse, as I'd buy the game for PC twice...

I think I'll buy the Collector's Edition and pray that it's multilingual or that the spanish translation is DECENT. If it isn't neither.... ??U Then this game better be good, though...

I'm gona wait for and see ...

Only if STEAM isn't involved, or any other of the more ridiculous DRM scams that are getting so popular.

Already preordered? didn't even know you could this early, lol. I know what you mean about barely waiting but i haven't seen much info on it, so will want to be suprised when i play it sort of thing. Probably a good thing for me as i'll get too excited :)

Gamestop asked if we wanted to pre-order when we picked up our copy of GI, but no collector's edition yet, so we're waiting.

Translation? Sure. Quality of it? If it's like Oblivion....then bad.

Needless to say that they translated the "Woad" spell name (the race-specific Shield Greater Power for the Nords) to "Cake".... ??U
