Buy it on release or not?

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:42 pm

Gamestop asked if we wanted to pre-order when we picked up our copy of GI, but no collector's edition yet, so we're waiting.

Yeah I may just wait and preorder the collectors edition, will be worth it in the end I suppose.

Translation? Sure. Quality of it? If it's like Oblivion....then bad.

Needless to say that they translated the "Woad" spell name (the race-specific Shield Greater Power for the Nords) to "Cake".... ??U

Really?... fail, well I hope it'll be better for you on skyrim.

PC after a few weeks if reviews suggest many bugs and bad PC-UI formatting. I'll wait for UI mods, patches, unofficial patches.

With their current track record only a moron would hand them money at launch.

I want to get it at midnight, but that may not be an option, but I'll get it within 24 hours of the release. I've already got it pre-ordered on Xbox.

My birthday is four days later, so I plan to get the game then. Hopefully it doesn't have a case of Fallout New Vegas and isn't bugged to the [censored]house.

I will pre-order the digital only version via Steam, install in advance and hopefully be able to unlock at midnight PST or whatever time Bethesda chooses to unlock all the digital copies. (while many people are still waiting in line at gamestop)

This x12.

I will never preorder or buy at launch a Bethesda game ever again after FONV. And yes yes I know, Obsidian blahblahblah.

Buying once the GotY edition hits the "sale" rack. No release day bugs, no getting nickel-and-dimed to death piecing the "entire" game together DLC by DLC.

Some people find it worthwhile to pay extra for the same product because they want to play it first. I could understand it if I had a bunch of friends into video gaming. I've paid a bit extra for board games to have them early for the same reason; you're anxious for a release and want to try it as soon as possible, and it's worth an extra $10 or so to you.

Certainly not moronic... I just don't share the priorities.

Depends if there is a midnight release for Skyrim. My guess would be yes.

I thought about getting it on Steam, my only problem is if mods will be compatible with the Steam version

I can't imagine why they wouldn't be. I got New Vegas off Steam and I had no issues using or making mods at all, the only "issue" was that the install path was a tad different, but that's not even worth considering really. Unless something changes radically in the way modding is done I doubt Steam would hinder you.

I'll be buying the console version on release, and the PC version once I've bought my own high-end gaming PC in a year or two (after uni)

Pre-ordering for PS3, then picking it up at the midnight release, hopefully. If not, once school is over.

The collector's edition on the PC only, after the first bug patch and the GOTY if it comes with all the DLC.

I'll buy it on release day, probably after school. It'll be for console. Maybe if we ever get this PC updated I'll buy Skyrim on PC, but that won't be for a while.

Buying it at launch doesn't stop you from patching it later, so at the very least you're saving yourself 5 minutes of install time before patching it :D

My guess is that it will play out similar to the New Vegas launch.

In other words, if you pre-order a boxed PC version, you can pick it up somewhere, but you won't be able to unlock it until some time, such as midnight PST.

If you pre-order the digital version on Steam, you can download and install in advance, but it won't unlock until the specified time.
