I'm excited about Skyrim, but I'm going to wait a few days at least, possibly a few months.
First, I want to know what kind of DRM the game will have. If it's something insane; like constant Internet tethering, limited installs for a single license, forced registration with an online account for a single player game, etc. I will wait until gamesas/Zenimax removes it (the way they removed the DRM from the GOTY edition of Morrowind) before buying. If that means I have to wait a year or so, so be it. I'm really hoping that's not the case, though. I plan to start modding as soon as I play through the game a bit, and get a feel for the land. If they don't ever remove it, well - I guess I'll just keep modding for Morrowind and forget about Skyrim. I'm patient, but I'm not willing to tolerate DRM that essentially forces me to prove I'm honest every 5 minutes. (or for Ubisoft, continuously)
Second, waiting a few days should be long enough for the worst of the bugs to come out. The ones the devs miss, because they all have the same type of PC's. If the initial bugs are bad enough, I'll wait until the first patch is out that fixes them.
Assuming those two conditions are met, I'll go ahead and pick up the PC version. I probably won't buy the DLC, and instead pick up the GOTY version when it comes out - unless the DLC is very, very compelling. (I'm looking at you, Oblivion horse armor...)
