Buy it on release or not?

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:34 am

I dont know wether to buy this on release or wait a few months then buy it, as it'll take a while before patches are out for, lets face it, a hell load of bugs, and for decent mods to be made or optimised for skyrim. As Oblivion has now been out for 4 years and there's still mods that need improving/new mods being made, etc.

I suppose i could always buy it for console first then get it on pc later.

But what will you do?

I plan on buying it at release (hopefully a midnight release), and making sure I don't have work/obligations all weekend.

Already preordered? didn't even know you could this early, lol. I know what you mean about barely waiting but i haven't seen much info on it, so will want to be suprised when i play it sort of thing. Probably a good thing for me as i'll get too excited :)

I recommend you add a poll to this question.

I intend to get it on the day of it's release.

Yeah been a while since you could preorder, it's about 28 pounds on Amazon as opposed to the retail price which is 40 pounds. I preordered because I remember with Oblivion I had to hunt around all day until I found a shop that wasn't out of stock, now that Elder scrolls has a lot more fans I don't want to take any risks :D.

The poll options are too specific. There is no middle ground between getting it at midnight and getting it days after. There is no middle ground between a few days after and giving it a month or two, etc.

I'll get it on release but I'd be too tempted to stay up too late if I got it at midnight.

I'm going to wait long enough after release to read the comments here by a few of the posters I trust. That will tell me whether it's still a RPG at heart, or whether Bethesda has converted the series into a mindless hack & slash game with beautiful graphics and no "soul".

If it's considered to be "good", I'll buy it for PC. It probably doesn't matter whether I pick it up then or wait another 3 months, the price will stay about the same. Mods will come along later, and it won't matter when I bought it. Meanwhile, I'll at least have the basic game to play.

If it's "bad", then I'll wait and see what the modding community can do for it. After a year or so, especially if it's an empty shell of a game that you "play and beat" instead of a "world that you live", the price will drop into the $19.95 bracket, and then maybe I'll reconsider it if the mods make it worth playing. Otherwise, I'll have no more than a passing interest in it as "something that used to be good before they watered it down".

Pre-loading on Steam, that way I have the game downloaded and ready to go a few days in advance. Then i can just play it whenever I have the time without needing to stop by Gamestop.

Midnight release on console for me :)

If I had a PC that would run it then I would get it on PC, but my laptop barely handles Morrowind. :( Hopefully I'll make enough money this summer to build a nice PC, then I'll switch my reservation over.

Buy it next year waiting a bit for patches, mod, and let the rat lab decide if its worth it or not.
My opinion can change when more info are realeased, but so far it manages to oscilate from interesting to Meh.
