Still have to go through the background checks, but this is the 2nd time i've heard about this. Are we as a society so obsessed with this that we need promotions along these lines? I'm not for or against it i'm just really perplexed as to why these seem popular lately.

That reminds me of the convevience store in Vampire the Masquerade:Bloodlines where the clerk offers you weaponry if you buy something. I forget the exact line, but it always cracked me up.

Since when did you need a background check to get a gun? Or, is that State specific?

Last time I was down in the states my friend took me to a range. Was talking with the people there and they said all you need is a valid ID with valid address. If someone wanted a handgun or fully automatic or other specialty weapons or permits then they would need a background check.

Why I asked. Never talked about it other than that.

(was in the South)

But I guess when they ask for that id with address its to do a quick background check?

Gun laws vary from state to state, but if you purchase a gun from a licensed dealer you'll have a criminal background check done by the local police. If you buy a gun from a gun show or a friend (anywhere outside of a gun store really), you won't have to.

Sadly that is the truth and there are people working to try to fix that which maybe why many people are flocking to gun shows right now. Know that for handguns there's usually a 7 day waiting period while they perform a background check on someone. They don't call them Saturday Night Specials for nothing.

That process can be shortened to under ten minutes if the buyer has a valid carry permit. Of course, getting a carry permit takes a bit more than 7 days...

Gun laws here make you bend over backwards if you want to own a fully automatic, and most ranges I've been to don't allow them anyway. :(

So you either get a gun or a $50 Pizza Hut gift card? Better option if you don't want the gun: Get the gun, sell it, buy something else. :P

You never know when you stumble upon a movie like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3000_Miles_to_Graceland and just have an inclination to blast a hole in your TV screen. Hope they offer a TV insurance plan with your inevitable satellite contract. :gun:
