Buying Dell Keyboard

Post » Fri Jul 25, 2014 7:07 am

This is kind of a boring topic but I'm just really curious about this. I really like the Dell Sk-8135 keyboard. We have them at work and for a non-mechanical keyboard they feel great. I want to buy one for home but they are discontinued and now cost 50 as you can see below.

So, I found the same keyboard basically but still in production. However, the catch is it is designed for French Users and thus has some additional keys and slight modifications. All in all however, it looks basically the same. Would it work fine on an American Built system? Or would I encounter some problems? It's 30 bucks cheaper:

Thank you everyone!!!

All I know is some folks who have non English language keyboards have issues playing some English games due to differences in key mapping. However, most of these differences are are in the weird keys, not the ones most typing is done on.

Have you asked your IT dept about getting a keyboard from them? I know my IT dept (and just about anyone I have ever been in) have a box with lots of keyboards in it. Also, Dell does not make anything for themselves, have you tried to suss out the OEM for this? It looks a lot like a Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard I used to have.

Also, Ebay has a ton of these for $15

Note, if you get a used keyboard, clean it. People sneeze on these things. I would do a vacuum, then a wipe down with rubbing alcohol on a pad.

Well, there's QWERTZ (German), AZERTY (French), FG?IOD (Turkish), etc.

It seems a French-Canadian board is still QWERTY. So at least typing won't be a complete nightmare on it. Do note that some special keys are relocated though. That can (and most often will) cause issues when you want to use those functions. Like using the tilde ~ key to open the dev console in games for example.

Wow, thanks for the great input guys. I didn't even notice that the tilde key was moved on the French version. Where is it?

You might be able to get one off a school when they upgrade their hardware. I know that my schools uses that specific model of keyboard. I'm glad someone likes it though.
