Buying a pc for skyrim..

This a thousand times this. Full ATX cases are monsters. It's not hard for them to weigh 50+ pounds after they're full of hardware, and it's a titanic thing to haul around for any reason. ATX and micoATX mid-tower is the best choice for almost all people, but if you want something cool you could try to get a mini-ITX case like I'm getting. I wouldn't recommend it for a first time build though, but I'm totally going for http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnGWoyaEPqM.

Though they do have their advantages though. They can hold a ton of HDDs, optical drives. But if you only plan on using one or two HDDs then mid tower is fine. I will always prefer full ATX for my personal builds though.

My PSU is 80plus, but not bronze. not sure how much that matters though.
It's not being maxed out anyway, I bought it because it seemed like a good quality PSU from all the reviews, and the wattage has a bit of headroom for my system.

80 PLUS by itself is alright too. Just so long as he stays away from anything that's just totally unrated.

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=11565269 It's over $800, but not by much, and you could cut the price down even more if you got a cheaper video card. The one there is a little overkill anyways I think. Also Newegg usually does combo deals on CPUs and Motherboards that end up saving you around $25 every time, so that could also be counted off of the price. I could probably go further and cut corners here and there for a few extra dollars off, but then I'd be sacrificing quality.

The only thing is it doesn't have a monitor, mouse, keyboard, or anything else I assume you already have yourself (being that you posted on the forums on a computer :P). Unless it's a laptop.

Also the case is totally subjective. I picked it because it was cheap and I have experience with CoolerMaster, but by all means look at different cases and pick the one YOU want.

Will you people please stop spreading these lies, your just repeating what someone else said without any knowledge of current hardware prices. The absolute min your going to spend and have everything you need including a monitor, OS and input devices is 800$ and it will not run Oblivion well. If you want a rig that's going to be upgradable, last you 5 -7 yrs, have a decent size monitor and run Skyrim at max guaranteed it's going to cost you between 1100-1500$ depending on CPU, GPU and monitor choices. And that is building it yourself not buying a pre-built.

You're out of your mind. I was dream-shopping on Newegg the other day, and I compiled a complete list of parts, including Windows 7 Ultimate, and the total price tag was 837 bucks, and I know it would run skyrim at max settings

GTX 460
8 Gigs of DDR3 Ram(2066)\
i5 Quad Core 3.3 GHZ Processor(might have been a 3.0)
750w Power Supply
A nice motherboard(don't remember it's specs) that was compatible with i3, i5, i7 Processors
1tb Harddrive
Blu-Ray/DVD Drive
Windows 7 Ultimate

That rig will play any game currently out and due out in the next year at max settings, or so damn close it's not worth mentioning. I did have a notepad with all the links, but comp reset a while back and I hadn't saved it so I can't show the links. And honestly, I personally could salvage my Harddrive and Power supply from this computer and save myself a bit of money(I think it dropped it down to 700 dollars)

There are certain components that can be had right now in time for preparation...like the case, DDR3 RAM, HDDs (not SSDs), DVD drives, and operating system disc if needed. The processor, video card, motherboard, and power supply should wait.

You should wait until AMD's Bulldozer processor line up drops in June at the very least. Preferable to just wait till a month before Skyrim if that's what you're gonna build for. Prices drop and new hardware get released all the time. You can use this time to save up more money for an even more powerful build.

I wouldn't personally hold out for that alone, seeing as we know next to nothing about how Bulldozer is going to perform in the face of Intel's Sandy Bridge domination.

I know I'll be disappointed if I see 125W and 150W Bulldozer CPUs. :P

You absolutely SHOULD hold out for it if getting a computer for Skyrim. You aren't going to need top of the line processors for ANY computer game being released right now. The two hugely important reasons are:
1.) Intel has admitted prices will not go down for its processors until Bulldozer launches.
2.) If you get an AMD system you should not bet getting Socket AM3 right now. Socket AM3+ supports current AMD CPUs as well as the Bulldozer architecture. You're backing yourself into a corner when it comes to upgrades if you buy now, whether or not you get Intel or AMD.

In all likelihood Bulldozer will at the very least match Sandy Bridge, but that's not part of the reason to wait. It's usually a bad idea to buy a top end processor anyway.

As some of you may recall, I had a thread a while back about wanting to buy a new PC. I did. It cost me about $1000 if you count the GPU I already had and $850 if you don't. It runs OB, FO3, NV, just about every other game I own a maxed settings at a slick 60 FPS.

Could use more RAM though, only have 4GB at the moment.
