Buying a house in Riften

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:21 am

I have been doing various quests for the people of the Rift trying to get the Jarl's approval to buy a house there (like the wiki says). What or how many quests do I have to do before she will let me buy a house?

Thanks in advance

I think what I did in Riften was delivered some letter or bill of sale or something to markarth. I forgot who gave it to me, if it was the blacksmith or what. I'm sure someone will chime in. After I took it to markarth I was offered a house. Just walk around and ask until someone wants you to take something to markarth. That combined with doing all her quests until she stops giving them out was enough for me.

In Riften, talk to Wujeeta. Complete her favor and exit the conversation. You'll get another quest immediately. Talk to Wujeeta again to advance this new quest. This starts the quest line that lets you buy the house in Riften.

That Temple of Dibella quest the previous poster is talking about is in Markarth, and isn't a prerequisite for any house anywhere.

yes.... the skooma addiction quest was the one you have to do. I also did this quest, though I'm not sure it was necessary

The temple of diebella quest allowed me to purchase the home in markarth after I completed it, not riften.

Well I completed the skooma quest but the Jarl has not allowed me to buy a house yet. IDK what other quest I need to do. I have cleared half a dozen bandit hideouts for the House Carl along with 3 or 4 other Rift related quests.

I wouldn't bother with the housecarl's quests, I think they are radiant, they will go on for eternity...

You have to do as others have said: Talk to Wujeeta. Also talk to random townsfolk and help them out. I think you need to help a few locals as well.

I've the Prima guide and basically completing the Skooma trade quests plus 3 other town quests should be enough. If this option doesn't appear, and a lot of people seems to have this problem, you can use the console to force a quest advance. On PS3/Xbox 360 the only option is to reload an earlier save and do the quests in a different order to see if the dialogue option is unlocked.

I'm on my third playthorugh: during the first, I couldn't buy the house (option never showed up), on my second playthorugh, I bought the house but the Jarl never gave me the title of Thane and on my third the Jarl has told me that I need to buy a house but the stewart still refuses to sell it to me.

This game is bugged as hell.

Getting Mjoll's sword back seemed to help things along for me at least.

I really wanted that house on my current character but I can't find Wujeeta. There were some dragon attacks at the docks so she may have been killed.
Anyone know if she is killable?

After completing the Skooma quest for Wujeeta and doing 3 or 4 other quests in Riften the house was still not being offered.I used the console to set the Jarl's relationship rank to me to 3 and bam I was able to buy the house. I will do a few more Riften quest to see if I can get the Thane title.

the temple of dibella quest isn't necessary to buy the house in markarth, all you have to do is immediately talk to the jarl and he sends you on a quest to kill some bandit, you come back he gives you a reward, then if you ask he sends you on another quest to go get the shield and when you get back he lets you buy the house, you only have to do 2 quests to buy the markarth house, a lot of people think you have to do lots of quests to get the house, but the reason why people think you do, is because its easy to lose track of quests in the quest log and if you don't specifally do those two quests the jarl gives you, you won't be able to buy the house and so most people start scrambling and do every markarth quest but you only need to do the first two the jarl gives you, and i think you need to be level 20 for the shield quest. so i wait till level 20 and then go to markarth, do the 2 quests and buy the house. the rest of the quests there you can do anytime.

I dont believe named NPC's can be killed by dragons I have tried to get a couple killed intentionally by ancient dragons just to see if it could be done and no luck so the odds that a random attack would take one out is low.

The Temple of Dibella quest isn't required to buy the house, but it does count towards the "Help 5 people in the Reach" part of becoming Thane. But how to get the quest anyway: Talk to the beggar, usually standing around near the market stalls outside the inn in Markarth. He'll ask you to steal the statue of Dibella from the temple (That part is optional, but I do it anyway. The next part is required.) Sneak into the Temple of Dibella, into the Inner Sanctum where the priestesses are communing or something, and make sure you get caught (I like to steal the statue and take it back to the beggar first, then go back and get caught on purpose). They'll tell you you need to perform a quest for them as penance, just do what they tell you.

All you have to do to buy the house in Markarth, though, is ask the jarl if there's any work you can do. He'll send you to clear a random dungeon of Forsworn. Return and he'll ask you to retrieve a shield from another random dungeon (this one will have a Hagraven at the end). After that you should be able to buy the house. If he's not giving you any quests, then you're bugged. :(

Ahh! Gosh darn it, Ive compleated the skooma quests allready, and she still wont give me the option to buy the house, or help 5 people. I swear to freakin talos, I spend more time in this game loading up saves and backtracking than I do actualy playing it!

I realy dont want to load a save, as I spent most of this morning redoing stuff Ive allready done because of another bug. Im not on PC, so I cant use console, but come on. Is there any other way to get this lady to like me enough to buy the home? This is why illusion needs to be able to make people like you more.
