Buying Legendary Edition- start playing from Hearthfire?

Post » Mon Apr 14, 2014 12:58 am

Hello,

I played Skyrim on my PC a year ago, and now I am buying Legendary Edition which include Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn add-ons. I have 3 question:

  1. Will installing all three add-on cause some problems on Windows?
  2. Should I start playing Hearthfire first, not Skyrim independently, because it is Skyrim+house building thing?
  3. Does Dawnguard and Hearthfire import character, or when I start playing them I will start playing from level 1?

Because I don't have enough time (play time 30 min per day), I plan using cheats to get money, so money for house won't be a problem.

Welcome to the forums :hehe:

1: No

2: Skyrim and the DLC are fully integrated. You can't play Heartfire separately

3: See #2 - there's no importing of characters. You do have some choice as to when you start Dawnguard and Dragonborn

Thanks for fast answer!

So, for example, can I install Dawnguard and Hearthfire and play both of them simultaneously?
If I am in the middle of Skyrim main quest, and I install Dawnguard then- what happens next? Do I get new side quests from Dawnguard, or does a new main story begin?

If you have vanilla Skyrim then install Dawnguard, then you'll start getting quests involving the DLC as you encounter them. No fancy things necessary. Just play and you'll see.

You won't even notice which content is vanilla and which comes from DLC. Think of it this way: in standard Skyrim there is the main quest (which isn't even mandatory), but also seven factions you can join. You can do their quests in any order, even several at once. DLC just add new factions, land, items and creatures, all seamlessly integrated with the game. Just play and you'll find them.
The only prerequisite for Hearthfire is earning the trust of the jarl of the hold where you want to build your house, which typically means doing a quest or two. Oh, and having a lot of gold for building materials, but this won't be a problem for you.

I play on PS3 not PC but in my experience the DLC integrates seamlessly into an existing save/character. You are free to play or leave any DLC in any order, just like any other quest lines in Skyrim.

Have fun.

I have Skyrim on the xbox. Sometimes I play without the dlc's, and then add the dlc's one at a time, and there is no problems there at all. Hope you enjoy.

If starting a new game, you can't even start Heartfire until you are level 9 I believe. So you can't even start it from the beginning even if you wanted too.

Regarding Dawnguard, I wouldn't activate it till your ready to do it because the

Spoiler
vampire attacks
can become a real problem if you don't do Dawnguard right away.

Gives you time to save up for the plot of land, though :)

basically, adding DLC is like adding a mod to Skyrim, you can pretty much add like 99% of the mods at anytime in a game (there's a few that need to be added after Unbound quest in beginning of game, and others you should add while doing Civil War quest), but the DLC's don't have to worry about that.

So basically, you can add them at anytime, during your playthrough. Only thing I'm not real sure about on consoles, is if the Legendary Edition of Skyrim is compatible with regular non-dlc edition of skyrim saves. If you load up the legendary edition of Skyrim, and your saves work, then you'll be fine :) Otherwise, your PS3 is seeing your old saves as from a 'different game'.

Welcome to the forums! :foodndrink:

You also need to read this http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1462092-faqs-for-skyrims-legendary-edition/, because it concerns you since you already have Skyrim. :read:
