Buying stors rather then just investing

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 1:29 pm

I think it would be interesting if we could buy stores. it would make it possible to put our products we make up for sale and at the end of the day we get a good cut of the profit... mercantile would be needed here as well that way you at least have to earn this. maybe even use the house furniture and maybe a bit of its own you can make your own store to your liking ^_^ just a thought. any comments?

That sounds good, but not all the inventory should be your stuff. Some should be delivered to you like a real store.

I like it - perhaps all the stores you own's income is based on your mercantile skill.

I like the idea of buying a store but I'd rather Invest in a store and get a discount for doing so

maybe hire someone to run it for you so your not just standing in there all day selling stuff(i mean its a RPG but there is a limit to how much you have to role play)

and if theres a theft you can go hunt down the thief(s) yourself (and if you dont mind shady business, steal from other stores and sell in separate citys which you own more stores (cause you just cant sell hot goods next door to where they came from (and yes i did just use triple"()")))

It's a nice idea, but the problem is that it's a singleplyer game and in Oblivion, you were the only one who ever bought anything. So for it to work in Skyrim, they could add random adventurers who sometimes came into the town and purchased stuff. Then ran into any of the dungeons that were scripted to allow them, and they'd either kill all the inhabitants and then despawn, or die in the dungeon for you to grab their loot.

If you wanted you'd be able to intercept them on their way to the dungeon and kill em off, stealing their loot back and maybe reselling it to the next hapless adventurer muahaha

Yup.
I like the idea, I always thought it'd be cool to own a portion of a town.

I think if it wasn't too complex it would be an interesting idea. I think that money should just slowly accumulate over time. Stock levels would be automatically kept up day-to-day like any other store. And an NPC would still run the counter. The only differentce is you could stop in every few days, or once a week, to collect whatever profit available.

The options available to the player could be setting prices and hours. Sales and profit would be determined on set price values and player skill level. A substantial investment should be required first, so it's not just a gimme cash flow. Or they could make it into a prolonged quest where you finally become the owner. OR... they could make Merchant another joinable guild, and at the end, you obtain your own shop. Maybe even get to choose what kind, or have it based on how you worked your way up the ranks.

I'd like it if by buying a store, you'd actually have to run it. Specifically, NOT to buy a store for $____ gold, then simply magically get $____ profit at the first of every month.

I'd rather buy the store, then have to pay taxes on it, pay a worker to man the counter, pay security if I'm having trouble with break-ins, pay a supplier for goods to stock it, or make your own stuff. Or course, if your skill is low and you stock it with low quality wares, you probably wouldn't sell much. If I was selling weapons, there would be other weapon shops in town, so I'd have to price my items competitively or I wouldn't sell anything either.

In short, I'd want it be interesting and involving with great reward if you spend time on it, little reward if you don't.

Nice idea! It would be great if someone picklock'd himself inside your shop and stole som stuff and/or if a gang came into the store and draw their weapons and yell "This is a burglary!" and shot an arrow in the ceiling. XD

This would be all handled behind the scenes. Your profit margin would include things like wages and taxes already being deducted. If you had to actually run and micro-manage the store yourself, it would feel tedius.

I don't think you're "magically" getting money each month. If you're the owner, you would normally have hired help to do a lot of this work for you. You'd just end up with a smaller profit margin.

It's going to turn into Fable and Assassin's Creed. You will eventually (very quickly) have more money than you care to have. Also, it will work on it's own meaning anyone with a brain should invest early on to reap rewards as time passes. I'm cool with adding more adventurers so there's some competition, but I'd rather make money the old fashion way.

Cut? If I own the place, I'd damn well better be getting more than a "cut" of the profits- otherwise I'm literally going to roll some employee heads when I figure out which of'em are embezzling!

But honestly, I don't care one way or the other whether store ownership is in or not.

Crossbow. Cause bows shooting arrows at ceilings would be redicilous. Anyways EPIC Idea. If I would have a key of the store (which I would) If I could lock it (In Oblivion you can't lock stuff D:) I would lock the main door and the back door so my shopkeeper would be stuck in there. It would be cool if pepole would panic on burglaries, assaults on cities and being locked in buildings.

I would just be happy if I had an easy way to sell my most expensive items. Antique stores have booths, where several individuals sell their antiques in the same store. It would be cool if you could set up a booth in a rare items store and sell your unique items. Or maybe have an auction house where you can sell/bid on the more precious/mythical items like Azura's Star and Umbra and the original Fishy Stick.

Just to make it clear, I'm not talking about an online type thing.

speaking of, what exactly is the old fashion way? there really is no old fashion way to be honest this would work if the income was controlled assassin's creed and fable were good games but the income system was a bit to excessive... if the person has a master in mercantile skill in the beginning in the game then yeah sure he can buy a store. point being this is only available to the people that level up there skill in this. the thing about it is there is a bunch of ways to make money but in some ways there are easier ways then others it depends how you play that's how most RPGs are. think of this like a special perk you get only its a physical one for the promoted skill the investing thing was good and all but i didn't feel i was getting enough from it :/
