Bye bye Skyrim PS3

Post » Wed May 15, 2013 10:59 pm

After resolving some GPU driver issues i managed to get everything in order and now it would seem my laptop passes minimum requirements and then some for Skyrim! This is fan*******tastic! Any mods or tips anyone here could give a Skyrim PC noob? I'm really eager to get a PC copy now and i want to prepare.

If it just passes minimum I doubt mods could work.

You have to do some mucking around to actually install it off a disc as it defaults too installing off Steam (even from the disc).

Strangely I didn't have any issues installing Skyrim from the disc. Go figure. It is however a well known fact that generally there have been a lot of issues installing from the disc. It is tough possible that in Legendary Edition this issue is fixed. Remains to be seen.

How miserable is your internet connection? The main game is only ~6GB, Dawnguard is ~1.1GB, don't know about Dragonborn.

It's slow but not completely hopeless. It's enough for download even tough it'll take some time to complete.

In the end it's your call whether choose the disc or download option.

Welcome to the PC! I made the switch from PS3 to PC recently as well, and am loving it.

I'd definitely recommend http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/14950/?, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/11163/? and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26228/? for starters. These mods are the ones I've found have made the biggest impact on my game. I dismissed 'needs' mods like Frostfall and Realistic Needs since I first heard of them, but now love using them. I disable them occassionally - it's just plain annoying to be 'tired' while your character is wandering through ... the location for the final battle of the main quest. And I'd find the game very difficult to play without Convenient Horses!

There are also cosmetic mods like http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/12092/?, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/13486/?, http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/4929/? and the http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/30450/?. They don't have big impacts on gameplay, but do add quite a lot. The cloaks mods work well with Frostfall - they provide additional protection from rain and snow.

Oh, and: You probably could download it, but why not just wait for the Legendary Edition? It's cheaper, there's no need for slow downloads and gives you plenty of time to plan mods

Not all mods require huge graphics, quest mods, faction mods, armor mods etc etc should work fine with a copy working on minimum.

It is! I prefer the feeling of a mouse-and-keyboard, and mods have added a ton of new possibilites to my game. I've just begun my Forsworn Bard character, for example :D

I adore vanilla Skyrim, and loved (almost) every minute of it on PS3. Mods can only enhance that enjoyment.
