BYOH mod. No shed?!

Post » Sun Jun 30, 2013 4:08 pm

I subscribed to Build your own house as my first ever mod after the unofficial patches. When I go to the top of the tree that fell on Lucky's house, the shed with the journal that is supposed to be up there is not. What could be the problem? I ran BOSS and even played a couple hours before going to the location. I did unsubscribe before ever seeing if it worked because someone suggested I do that so im not force fed updates that might glitch my game. When I saw it wasnt working, I hit subscribe again and re-ran BOSS just in case but it still isnt working. I was told to make sure it is in my data files. How do I do that? When I went to the Skyrim play screen, I saw where it said Data files but there is nothing listed there. Does this mean I dont have Unofficial Patches either? I saw alot of other people with the same problem on the BYOH page, but I couldnt find a answer by the creator of the mod on the hundred or so pages of comments so I have no idea how to fix it. I am new to pc and have no idea wtf im doing. Assistance is so appreacited at this point!

If nothing is listed when you click on data files, you haven't installed the mod. What does boss say when you run it? Is that mod listed? Do you own any dlc? If so, and those aren't listed either, you have a larger problem. You may want to verify file integrity, by right click on the game title in your steam window, go to properties, and from there, local content. Then finally select verify integrity. (It checks to make sure no files are missing or corrupted).

Finally, go back into your steam workshop and make sure the mod is subscribed to, launch skyrim, wait for it to check your mod subscriptions, it may need to re-download the file.

Easiest advice though, is avoid steam workshop like the plague. Nexus mod manager is very easy to use. You simply click a button, let the app start and check the box next to the mod. Unlike steam, nexus doesn't have the rather harsh file size and type restrictions.

edit: Or the easiest, and sloppiest fix would be to go to nexus, if that mod is there, and download it manually, and throw all its contents into your data folder. Eventually uninstalling it would be a pain though. (Unless you use nexus mod manager)

I have no dlc to check, but after re subscribing to both mods, Unofficial patches did take me to a download screen! I now see both mods listed under data files. Boss doesn't list anything for me, when I run BOSS, it says 4 plugins but I must not be looking in the right place for the list of data. What I am worried about is when I just tried to validate my cache files it said 1 file failed to validate & will be re aquired. What on Earth is that about?

It means you were either missing a file or altered a file.

Now if the those two mods show up in your data files, and you followed the same method to install byoh, that mod is likely bugged. I'd try unsubscribing it once more, run skyrim launcher, exit, then resub. If that doesn't fix it, I'd ignore that mod.
