Caesar's Legion Assassins

Post » Thu Dec 17, 2009 7:55 pm

I had this happen to me by Ranger Station Charlie. There was a small camp of 3, ED-E, Boone, and I popped them off, then it was an army of 3 waves! The 1st was a wave of 5, with the guy that has the flag on his back, and 2 veterans, and 3 recruits. That was tough, then I had 2 more from the south, followed by 3 more from the west. Luckily the station was close by to recoup. If it wasn't for Boone I'd be dead. He would cap one or two, then switch to the Rebar Club, literally bashing heads apart! Poor ED-E though, he needs better armor. I do find the giant radscorpions to be a little rediculous. Also I got swarmed by 5 Nightstalkers, which was a fast death. Then it was the herd of Death Claws (really, there needs to be a family of them?). At night I was being HUNTED (!) by Nightstalkers down by Nipton. I actually started grinding by killing F'n geckos by Wellspring. Grinding in Fallout?! Enemies are a little overpowered. Humans are doable, but the wildlife is rediculous.

Okay, I admit that the OP's "Five Horseman of the Apocalypse" had me giggling.

I'm in the same boat, in TWO games. The first was similar to OPs, but I went into the Barracks to cause the rest of the NCR guys to run outside, ran to the roof and crouched behind the sandbags. Hurling dynamite until they did finally worked.

Now, my latest game? Went to liberate some slaves from the Legion and it punted me into Shunned. Fine, right?

Wrong! It appears the Legion's developed some Star Trek tech, and teleported a bunch of Assassins less than a hundred feet away from me. I like the idea of a faction hunting you down, but the teleporting, running faster than the T-1000 guys are not quite what I had in mind.

This is why I'm only doing NCR quests that don't impact my reputation with the Legion. I plan on playing both sides until I actually get a good feel for who's going to help the wasteland more... and once I get my hands on some power armour. ;)

I had 3 assassins jump me right after freeing the NCR captives in Nelson. They rolled me the first time as they came right up behind me as I was walking back to the ranger station. I actually saw the unarmed NCR guys at the camp scream and run away. At first I thought they were running from me, and then the cam suddenly switched to me dying in slowmo.

The second time didn't go as well for them as I got the higher ground and took them out with head shots. I'm using head shot damage mod on the PC, though. Not sure how it would've gone without it.

I disagree totally. I love that the creatures are so much tougher. I mean everybody you talk to in the game tells you stick to the roads and don't go north of Goodsprings. If you follow that advice until you get a little tougher you are fine. Then, when you think you are ready, you head into no-mans land. Plus some of the tougher enemies can be taken down more easily with the right tactics. I don't think they are overpowered at all.

Got three of these after me when I was at the Goodsprings spring, probably as aconsequence of me killing Vulpes Inculta. Took a few tries, but in the end I was the one who kicked their butts.

I met on the way out of Mojave Outpost, I was with Boone and ED-E on hard difficulty at level 6 or 7 and we took them out in a matter of seconds.

This is why I keep Arcade Gannon with me at all times as a follower. He could easily take half of them. But the Legion must hate you more than the NCR if you already have Legion Assasins on you. Definetly a folllower helps and stock up on stimpacks and armor. And using the NCR to help you can't hurt any either.

I have only seen one group of Legion assassins.

I murdered Caesar and I have not seen a single assassin.

This happened to me in a very epic way as well.
Spoiler
I killed Vulpes INculta and his legion dogs [pun not intended] for killing that town off. Then, I found a legion camp and had a battle with the soldiers there... As I'm looting the dead bodies and healing up Ed-E plays his battle music and I turn to my left to see 6 legion assassins coming over the hill and one of them was wearing the armor that has the legion flag sticking out of the back. (which is awesome) Cue epic battle where I use all of my stimpacks and most of my ammo. I think I was around level 9.

Does anyone know what level are the Legion Assassins? 20? 30? More?

Legion Assassins are lvl 20, the highest lvl of any human NPC in the game aside from Veteran NCR Rangers, which are lvl 21 and NCR Heavy Troopers which are lvl 33.

The fact that they come after you after completing a quest given to you at lvl 5-8 seems rather broken to me, especially since they send their highest lvl people at you. I'm vilified with NCR and all they send is the regular NCR Rangers which are only lvl 15.

I encountered them very late in the game as I did not play in the normal order but had a little trouble with them as I had no followers with me at time since I was doing fetch quests for the strip but the sniper rifle saved me. Survived the second fight with them but did need some doctors bags and superstims as they got the drop on me the first time.

Regarding the difficulty at low level, I think its perfectly in-game appropriate for the legion. Basically, you've attacked and killed a ranked officer. The legion got where it is by crushing its opposition as soon as it appears. It is a black mark against them if they were to allow this to go unpunished. Overwhelming force on a threat like this shouldn't be above them. That they do not throw more after taking out the assassins is more surprising to me.

I did a quick search regarding this, but didn't really find anything that helps me out.

So I'm level 7, and I'm leaving Novac. I get jumped by 5 Legion Assassins. At first I think these guys are going to be like Talon Company from FO:3, you know a nuisance but nothing too bad. I couldn't have been more wrong, ever. They quickly dispatch me, so I reload and try some different tactics. Again, I'm quickly defeated. So next time, I try chucking every bit of explosives that I have in my inventory. I might have crippled 1 leg before getting annihilated. I try running around and letting the locals help me, but they aren't effective and die quicker than I do.

At this point I decide that I need some help. So I quick travel to Mojave Outpost thinking "surely a whole base of NCR can wipe out 5 assassins." So I waltz out of camp, down the hill and trigger these guys. I run as fast as I can back up the hill, dodging bullets and I hide behind the barracks (all the while I'm screaming like Ruby Rhod in the 5th Element). I see all kinds of NCR and other NPCs running around, and it's basically world war 4. I duck again for a few seconds before deciding that it would be nice if I help finish these guys off. After all, I'm the one that dragged these guys here. So I pop around the corner, only to find these same 5 assassins (more like terminators) running and shooting at me. The NCR is laying dead all over the outpost, and I do what I can for the last 3 seconds of my life before they put one final bullet into the bloody pulp that used to be my body.

I did this a few times, and even dropped the difficulty as low as it goes. Same results. I don't know if anything can kill these guys. Anytime I try to leave a town, they pop up and end my life. I can quick travel to other locations, and the same thing happens. These guys seem to be many levels higher than me, and even the other NPCs. At this point I wonder if my game is broken and I need to just make a new character? I don't really know what to do.

Has anyone else run into the 5 horseman of the apocalypse?

BTW I'm on 360.

Actually something similar happened to me no more than an hour ago... minus the running/screaming/crying like Ruby Rod from 5th Element.

Near the Legion Camp for the quest Booted, I helped a caravan fend off the scripted Legion ambush... this apparently REALLY pissed Caesar off and as I crested the ridge to sneak my way into the camp, three assassins come charging at me... needless to say, being level 9 at the time, I didn't last very long. I tried head-on fighting, I tried V.A.T.S., I tried throwing frags, etc etc...

Being that my quicksave was "conveniently" at the exact moment they spawn and start running towards me, I had to think on the sly... then I remembered how I 'sploded :nuke: Caesar and all his praetorians in my last playthrough. So the moment I loaded in, I pulled up my Pipboy and used a Stealth Boy which caused the assassins to actually approach me and notify me that Caesar was pissed and wanted me dead instead of just an all out assault. Once the dialogue was complete they just sort of stood around because I was hidden, so I proceeded to make the rounds and plant a frag grenade on them one by one. I also learned that if you're hidden with a Stealth Boy active, you can plant the grenade, stand up, sprint off :bolt:, and re-enter sneak mode without alerting anyone... this was necessary since the first frag I planted crippled one of my legs and arms. :flamed:

So yeah, that's my tale on turning the tables on vastly more powerful enemies. :toughninja:

I did the exact same thing as you, I became vilified by them for rescuing the prisoners from Nipton. I'm amazed that this is in the game when there's a quest that leads you to be vilified by them, and you're likely to do that quest fairly early on.

I couldn't defeat them either try as I might but there is a really simple work around (if no one's mentioned them already). If you can get inside somewhere (for instance the Gibson scrap yard building) then wait for eight hours they go away and you never have to deal with them again!

I once saw a CL explorer kill 4 NCR troopers with his trusty cowboy repeater, they hid behind rocks while he picked them off one by one and only lost 1/4 his health.

But then I remember seeing a caravan pack of 2 gaurds and 2 merchants traveling together(I see this all the time taking the same route, some where near a bridge after nipton just follow the roads) sometimes NCR troopers join them and as a fixed event CL scouts wait in ambush with mechetes and throwing spears to take on the caravans but they always get owned. Also sometimes nightstalkers appear in the mix. CL scouts always get annihilated by 10mm pistol fire. Love seeing these little battles.

I had to end a 12 hour game save because of the Legion Assassins. In my current game I am about 25 hours in and at level 16, Boone with me most of the time. I'd like to think I'm playing it smart this time around; the Legion are still neutral towards me but one of these days Boone and I will make all hell break loose on them........ :disguise:

It is very odd that the developers will put in a quest so early in the game that will cause you to be vilified by the Legion. My freeing the Powder Gangers the first time around was not due to a lack of common sense. I accepted the fact that from that point on Legion soldiers will attack me on sight. I cannot accept the fact that level 20 assassins hunt me down at random locations when I'm only at level 8. These assassins should be scaled down a bit and if not that, then atleast have them appear at later levels.

Got the same problem after rescuing NCR prisonners in a mine.

3 assassins attacked me.

The script started after a quicksave while I was travelling.
Before they talked to me I had the opportunity to fast travel. So I did it to one of the small NCR outpost I already visited.
They "followed" me there and the NCR rangers helped me kill them. My weapons were doing nothing on their armors. (I did not try AP ammo).
I had to redo it several times as sometimes one of the NCR guys was killed but we got them finally.

Legion bullet sponges should be their new name.

you probaly killed caesar's soldiers at nipton. My solution was to run like hell to a viper gang (make sure that the assasins are close by) hidout then to ranger station charlie. The viper gang killed the weaker one and the other one killed off the viper gang then the ranger killed the other one.
