Caesars Legion in the future

Post » Sun May 16, 2010 2:10 am

You haven't presented any facts.
You've presented what speculations and assumptions from characters in the game.
Speculation and/or assumption =/= facts.

And I find it very hypocritical that "I'm" ignoring evidence when you're clearly refusing to acknowledge what Lanius himself has to say.
I'm not ignoring your "evidence", I'm countering with that it ain't factual evidence but merely opinions and assumptions.

I'm not ignoring what Lanius has to say, not at all. But Lanius is not the only evidence their is to work with is he?
The Legion is Caesar, with the exception of House he's probably the smartest man in the game. This is made quite obvious through dialogue, yet you're quite willing to completely ignore what he has to say because you want to believe that Lanius isn't a psycho and he CAN lead the Legion after Caesars death.

Thats all this boils down to in the end. All of your supposition and opinions mean nothing because you didn't make the game, you only play it, like it or not.. Caesar doesn't trust Lanius as loyal, neither does Vulpes inculta. In fact its also stated in-game that the legion itseld doesn't like Lanius. Lanius lives for war and killing and there isn't any evidence in the game that would indicate Lanius wouldn't simply turn on the Legion once the military campaign was over. However their is plenty of evidence that he is a mental and he enjoys killing just a little too much..

So will he because all great leaders and Gov. eventually will fail.

Yup, only difference is how long it lasts and what is born out of it.

It's true though.
All governments and nations will fall at some point.
But the difference is how long one can stay a government/nation.
IMO NCR is more shortlived than Legion.

Well, if all that is fact could you please answer me one question?

Why is Lanius second in command?

Thnx

I was facepalming as that wasn't the point of my post. It was that Doom apparently things whatever comes out of Caesar's mouth is canon.

So Caesar's and Vulpes' word is above Lanius'?
How?

If enjoying killing is a merit for being a psychopath then I guess most companions and a crapload of characters in the game are psychopaths.
If so, wouldn't psychopath be the new norm?

No, we're just saying that lore (You know, factual stuff) says otherwise.

What Lore?

*sigh*

It's fine actually I really can't be bothered with this anymore. I'm arguing with three people here who enjoy using partial evidence, word twisting and using their own opinions as 'lore'..

Have fun with that. lol

There are some people on this forum that can't quite seem to accept when they're wrong, its fine, happens everywhere.

*sigh* Fine, which questions?

Lanius is second in command because he has shown prociency in killing and is able to strike fear in the heart of the enemy? People in general are usually afraid of armies that are lead by psychopaths..

I'm sure they'll still be around, they wont be the power they used to be depending on what ending becomes cannon. Remember, they do occupy the majority for 4 states so I wouldnt consider them decimated just cripple or quieted for the time. That being said theres a lot of architexture going on back in california as seen by the development of shady sands. However fallout games are more intent on putting us on the frontier in that much of the time its really fallout: a post nuclear wild west role playing game. Theres a lot of inspiration being drawn from serials of the 1950s that culminate in this.

One of the things i miss from them not including in Van Buren was the potential for a reset button on the inevitable civilization problem goign on here. For those that didnt know, that game was goign to end on the the player having to make some hard choices about which cities wouldnt be wiped out when a missile launch was triggered by the antagonist, and this wasnt a well nuke the evil bad guys not the good guys choice, you were inevitably going to have to sacrifice good factions. For example choosing from nuking the ncr capital or the wastelands best hope to quickly curing a world threatening plague.

As I've said, I only go by lore and in-game observations in these type of arguments, while all you've been doing is being a major hypocrite.

So you think that Caesar, despite not trusting nor liking Lanius, would entrust his Legion to him because he's a good General?

You don't, this entire argument is based on the pro-legion participants ignoring things that are clearly written into the game..

Clearly written into the game = lore. Unless I'm mistaken?

As for Caesar making Lanius 2nd in command because he's a good general and scary? It's not what I believe, its what HAPPENED.. *facepalm*

That doesn't make sense. Caesar isn't insane, nor is he stupid.

Why would the devs have a supposedly intelligent man place the power of his huge army in the hands of somebody he doesn't trust? Perhaps you're.... wait for it.... wrong?

According to lore Veronica believes that all legionnaires are homosixual, but does that make it anymore true? Nope.

Jesus Christ.

Everything Caesar says about Lanius is a lie to put fear into troops so they don't rebel, the story where he killed his tribe and part of his face was torn off is complete crap- it takes a fool to not realize that.

Lets see, Caesar says Lanius does not care for the Legion OR his troops.

Wrong: He says if you side with him that he does not wish to sacrafice his troops for no reason, and if you- you know, pay attention he is intelligent and values his soldiers and the Legion and has honor and respect.

Caesar says he killed his tribe and had his face torn off, but guess what?

It's bullcrap, if he dies and you take his mask off you see that he has all of his face intact, also Legionaries who you talk to ingame reference the fact that when he was 12 he became a Legionary- which is more believable seeing that the majority of troops say that and it is'nt going off the saying of one man; one who proclaims himself to be the Son of Mars.

Another thing, Caesar paints him as a man who only fights to fight and believes in nothing other than violence:

He worships Mars, which shows that he isn't some beast who has no sense of loyalty or honor or sense of belief.

Hmm, an interesting topic to be sure. I haven't completed the game on every ending though I have completed the Legion's quest line once and am currently halfway into my second playthrough. I expect the Legion to fair quite well even after Caesar inevitably dies. The way it's set up is perfect for that environment. By stealing the young tribals of conquered tribes and indoctrinating them with Legion ethos at a very impressionable age, they essentially have endless waves of truly dedicated warriors to keep hurling at the NCR and whatever other enemies arise.

Not to mention (and I'll probably catch flak for this) the way they keep their women out of the fighting. This ensures they can er... make legionnaires the "traditional" way as well, therein securing another source of manpower (from a purely pragmatic view point of course). In comparison you have the many bickering families of the Strip, the NCR that I can only assume is riddled with corruption on it's higher levels.

Reason I'm thinking that is, aside from a corrupt Republic with a "Caesar" marching across the Colorado River fitting perfectly with that whole "Legion" theme, during the "Heck Gunderson" questline when you speak with the rancher who's being hassled by Heck, he mentions Heck being able to operate with impunity thanks to bribing NCR senators, or something along those lines. So yeah, if the question is "Could the Legion survive?" I'd have to say most definitely.

You apparantly have never heard the concept of lying or fear, because that is what Caesar does; he lies to strike fear, he puts fear to lower morale for any who dare oppose him, so the enemy will flee when they see "The Monster of the East" approach as they fear they will be butchered.

Fear is the ultimate weapon in war, yet war never changes.

The whole CL is crazy really...

Why? Because they believe in Mars? Because they are trying to do the right thing with a different method?

There is nothing different between the NCR or Legion, other than appearances- and appearances can be decieving.

I have, I didn't even think it deserved a response tbh. You realise he has a major contradiction in there right?

Caesar lies about Lanius to put fear in his troops minds? And yet the troopers talk about Lanius joining when he was 12.. :S Yeah..

I was merely proving a point. Vulpes and Caesar may have their doubts about Lanius, but that does that actually make them right when everything else proves them wrong? Nope.
