Cage armour... sigh

Post » Tue Mar 22, 2016 5:06 pm

Anyone else dissapointed with the set? I mean it looks cool, all very industrial and brutal like, but for its weight ( which is 33 ) you get very low defense, can't enhance it via ballistic fiber and you can't wear anything else since it's a complete set. I hope they change their mind with Far Harbor and add a bunch of new clothes/armour that can be enhanced because it's really a waste unless you're roleplaying.

I agree. I really like the way the cage armor looks, and especially the helmeted cage armor. I wish it was a bit more usable in the long term. Being able to add ballistic weave to it would be awesome.

Yeah you would think such a heavy set would have the defense of at least 90/100 instead it's like 25-40. Very dissapointing.

Sometimes you just have to sacrifice efficient stats for the fashions.

But yes, I agree. The game seems to limit your armor choices to the few layered ones or a limit selection of ones that can be ballistic weaved.

I wish armor sets had slots and you could place limb armor in those slots and instead of it changing the appearance it would chance the stats. For example: equipping leather arms and legs would give you the stats while wearing caged armor without the leather arms or legs visually appearing on the armor... instead of it auto un-equipping the caged armor...

Fallout design seems to be embarrassment = defense. My guy looks like a walking dumpster.

Nah, I do prefer fashion over defense, just that it would be nicer if we could enhance it with ballistic weave.

what is funny is that it is the only actual full armor that belongs to a series of "sets" that starts of with the "drifter" armor, and upgraded so far to even include the headslot yet in it's end tier it is inferior to everything else that is considered high tier armor xD ? And to think they have promotional material that's concept art of it.

Ballistic Weave is a "cloth", cage armor is "metal", it makes perfect sense that you can't sew BW into metal pieces. You folks might want to look for improvements that actually make sense. :goodjob:

Actually cage armour is a leather coat, reinforced by chains and metal plates, so technically it could be improved.

Hmm, I had to go look at it again, since I don't ever wear it, and it does look more like normal clothing with a leather duster and metal plates, so technically I think that BW could/should have been usable on it. I suppose I was confusing this with a lot of the raider armor with the metal plates and welded rebar all over it.

It's funny to note that Raider leaders typically wear cage armor, even though it's pretty weak compared to the heavy raider armor.

I almost wish they would make the layerable armor less powerful and make it so we can improve everything in minor ways, with visual changes accompanying the changes in defenses. That is certainly a pipe dream though, but I do agree that the spike and cage armor seem like they should have more defense for their weight.

When ever I get irritated by how armor and clothing work in FO4 I just remember one thing. In Skyrim you had armor or cloth and the two never did met in a very good combination. Sure you could wear a robe and some bracers/boots like the Vigilants of Stendar. But aside from that you were out of luck.

If your on a PC you have a few more options via mods for FO4. The whole system could be better, but it is Bethesda after all, there is always several things they just don't get right no mater how many mods are out there showing them the way to do it right.

Since I am almost invincible at level 35 or so, it really does not seem to matter what I wear. I no long use hats or helmets to mess my hairstyle and I wear only the coolest armor.

its good to collect cage armor to outfit your settlers all in one go! (although its heavy to collect, but so is 5 pieces of armor)

if it was that strong it would have stronger protection than the minutemen generals outfit, kellogs outfit, Silver shroud, i.e. huge quest items would be weaker than something you can grab off a random raider...

Well that's my point, the armour looks really robust and it weights as much, so it should definitely have more defense than just mere clothing like kellogs outfit or general outfit.

Ah crap, accidently double posted. Merge please.

^ To be fair, the Minutemen Generals outfit clearly has layered Combat Armour underneath the coat. So if anything that should be the strongest out of the outfit-types.

I am in agreement though, I wish Cage and Spike armour were a little more useful, because they do look badass.

It seems like the weapon and armor weights in general are very oddly distributed in Fallout 4. Energy weapons that are as good as it close to equal in damage and other stats to certain guns might weitgh 6 pounds to the gun's 20. The cage armor offers crap protection but it weighs as much as much as some power armor pieces.

Well in the Silver Shroud armors defense, every time you upgrade it Kent tells you about the armor plating and ballistic material he puts in it.

I remember how intimidating the helmeted cage armor looked on one of the loading screens and I wanted it so bad. Then I found an actual set. I put it on to check it out on my character, then I stuffed it away with my collection of clothing and armor. Even if you are RPing, its piss poor protection isn't worth it unless you're playing on a lower difficulty.

I do wish they would do something to make the full armor sets more usefull. I love the look of them but just can't justify wearing them until so late in the game that I'm already thinking of starting a new character again. I'm hoping when mods finally hit the ps4 I'll be able to find one that lets us add BW to any clothing/armor set or just ups the stats of the armor sets so I can use them more.
