Do Call of Duty [censored] piss you off?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 9:01 pm

. Yes there are much better FPS games than COD
. No it isn't realistic at all
. Yes the series has gradually gotten worse with every title since MW1
. Yes it's a run and gun noob-fest
. No Battlefield isn't much better (rambo medics and CG noobs anyone?)

It's just cool to hate things that are popular.

I've seen videos of .50 BMG's being fired on YouTube once (seen some posted by Army snipers too ) http://youtu.be/Z2fPdE9NwP0 . Basicly .50 Cal BMG + Person = Death always.

Another COD thread?

Yep.

As someone who hasn't played CoD since the first one* (and don't really pay attention to the series), I find the incessant CoD-bashing to be much more annoying.

CoD is the most over hyped, overrated, lacking innovation for years now, recycled and churned out trash of a franchise.

Nope. They aren't really bad games, but I do dislike Activision. Plus they haven't changed much since Call of Duty 4, and since I played the crap out of that and World at War I've pretty much had my fill. I don't mind what other people play.

All CoDs after WaW are trash IMO, I'll admit, Zombies in Black Ops is good, but the multiplayer is painful. MW3 will be absolutely atrocious. And the terrible Spec Ops will be returning, so there's nothing even worth glimpsing at in MW 3 IMO. And I honestly only liked the SP in CoD1, CoD2, CoD3, and WaW. But I think CoD4 is the master of CoDs MP-wise.

So yes, CoD does piss me off.

You know Call of Duty isn't supposed to be realistic, right? That's like being angry at hippo for not being purple. It's a hippo, it isn't supposed to be purple. Why are you so obsessed with hippos?

There used to be a lot of that on the Infinity Ward forums. That's why I left that place.... The ignorance. The horror.

There was a guy on there explaining that he was going to join the Marines because those were his favorite missions in CoD4 and because he could supposedly make it through them on Veteran without dying. There were a ton of people who were all over him because he was obviously joining for the wrong reasons, but there were also people (either younger kids or possibly trolls) that were more impressed with him playing the game on Veteran.

Oh this thread again, Activision does a great job marketing the game. I think they deserve the revenue for how well they do it. Well on the actual content of the game that is a different story.

Not really. I'd probably be considered a really devoted fan of certain games series myself (though I don't buy anything blindly), so I understand where enthusiastic fans are coming from. Call of Duty isn't one of those series and I really haven't cared for it since Call of Duty 2, but to each his own. I'll probably just ignore the games and their fans.

What is annoying is how much influence Call of Duty has had on the FPS genre in general over the past few years, but developers following the market leader is hardly new or exclusive to CoD's case.

It's a fun game, why should I care if it's unrealistic?

I don't mind people questioning other peoples level of education because they think COD is a realistic portrayal of war, with realistic guns/tactics/ect., but seriously...

...you turn around and show the same level of stupid when you knock a game for being realistic when it isn't meant to be. It's meant to be a fast paced twitchy arcade shooter. I could be wrong, and if I am forgive, but I haven't seen COD ever insist its realistic in any way?

Give it a rest already.

By the way just so we're clear, this isn't directed to anyone in particular, just the people that knock the game and think they must speak out against it for the realism reason. I just find it annoying, I actually like COD for what it is.

They only annoy me because they're everywhere in my daily environment and I'm honestly just upset my gaming preferences seem to be such a minority.

You can't hit [censored], once me and my squad got so bored that we started seeing who could stay in the open the longest before chickening out. One of my squadmates got out of the trench and did 100 jumping jacks and a bullet didn't even get near him.

The real idiots are the people who persistently whine and criticise COD because of it's popularity, not the people who play the games and enjoy them.

What I love is how most of these people have either a ) never played a COD game in their life (in which case they're in no position to comment) or b ) are BC2 players (who have no right to comment considering that game is just as bad)

I played CoD before and it ain't my sort of game. My mates all love it, however. They never do their studies anymore - just CoD. Once, I was away from school and tried to call them to see if I missed anything important/ any test, but they wouldn't pick up because they were playing CoD. I was pretty annoyed the next day when they were like, "Oh, sorry, I was playing CoD, in a match - I didn't know it was you."

Idk, it makes me mad when they blindly follow the COD series even though the last good COD was World at War.

Also, when the little kids playing COD think that it is an accurate representation of war. I hate being asked, "Why did you join the army if you know you are probably gonna die?"

News Flash. War isn't like call of duty. People are not dying everywhere you look. The casualty rate in war is less than 1%. You can't hit [censored], once me and my squad got so bored that we started seeing who could stay in the open the longest before chickening out. One of my squadmates got out of the trench and did 100 jumping jacks and a bullet didn't even get near him.

Also, their are many shooters better than cod. It pains my heart when I see people getting so excited over MW3, and not even knowing what Battlefield 3 is.

It was like that in WW2, it's not now, the world is pretty much at peace. In ww1 and 2 people were dying everywhere, but not when they were just sitting around in a trench. I personally prefer Medal of Honor, but I dislike people who bash COD because it is famous as much as people who like it because it is famous, more in fact

So much hypocrisy, so little tolerance.

Do we really need a thread like this every week? All they really do is serve as flamebait for fans of the series. If you guys can't criticize a game without calling the people who play it "stupid" and "childish", then you shouldn't say anything at all.

The main reason why I don't play CoD game online is that nobody understands the meaning of the word "TEAM". It's always a free for all and people yell at you if you try to help them.

How is Battlefield 3 and does it play differently then CoD ?

BF is more of a team oriented game, and combat is a bit slower and you can destroy more things. I agree with you on the no one understands TEAM part, especially when playing Domination and they let the bases fall left and right to try and get some kills, I have to resort to doing the same thing because no one is there to watch my back when I get pelted by 3 guys while trying to capture something. Not to mention the people who complain about stealing their kills. I'm like damn man, he's there..I give you 5 seconds to kill him and you can't and he's looking at me, I'm going to shoot at him so he dies and I don't.

I rarely run into CoD fans so I don't care much. If they want to spend their money by buying nearly the same game every year it's their business.

The "Enfield" as it is called in Black Ops, has only ever been used by the British, and thus should not be included in American, Russian, or Vietnamese armaments.

Actually it has been used by many different nations. Although the USA would not be using them today.

I really don't understand the argument about it being the same thing every year. In all honestly, I wish it were true. The series has gotten progressively worse since MW1 because of the drastic changes they've made.

Look at MW1 and MW2 for example. The latter had (among other things) smaller maps, akimbo weapons, and no dedicated servers. Those three changes had an enormous impact on gameplay, making the game worse.

I think that critcicsm is mainly because Black Ops was pretty much World at War with better graphics and more weapons, the multiplayer hasn't really changed since Modern Warfare 2 either. Black Ops was focusing more on story than gameplay though so I didn't really are

CoD games are a lot of fun to play which is why they're so popular. They're not marketed as realistic war sims so criticisms of being unrealistic are fairly pointless.
