So you start out your post by admitting that plenty of people (I daresay the majority) like the new features, but then you go on to explain that everyone's actually really dissatisfied?

I'm a fan.

I like regenerating health out of combat. I like the skill trees they have.

And by the way "appealing to a wider audience" is exactly what they should do. Why should this game not be accessible to more people? It usually just means the game is more fun.

You have to balance between the cult fanbase and the mainstream people. Making things 'more accessible' means diminishing the appeal to the cult fanbase who typically have been fans of the series several times longer than others. These people became fans because they enjoyed the original way the game worked. Why do mainstream people want to see series bastardized in order to have an even larger roster of games? Why can't we cult fans keep a single series that we enjoy?

Also..who is the majority of people your on about? Just about every feature and poll i've seen talked about or done on this forum has had a 2:1 dislike ratio over like.

As for the delays, you are only looking at half the issue. Delaying a game has a major impact on the game itself, sure you get more time to work on a title, but you also have to update the visuals as well. Most importantly though it costs a LOT more more meaning increased prices or less sales. Less sales mean less investment for the next game in the series meaning less time to develop it, less talent, and less of everything.

Too many Skyrim might not be what they were hoping for, while too others it might be great when it comes out. But why spend years making a game you know could be better with some extra time?

Assume, for the sake of argument, that Skyrim would be delayed for six months. What would you change about it in that time?

First thing I'd get rid of is auto-regenerating health. It's not that I totally dislike the idea, in some games it works perfectly well. But those games tend to be ones like Halo, which in the latest iteration one would note actually got rid of fully auto regenerating health on higher difficulties. But regardless it works best with an all out action game, where it's one action sequence after the next without stop. Since The Elderscrolls is not like that, I can only picture auto regen screwing with the pacing of the game. Aren't fights supposed to be hard, aren't things supposed to have consequences? Besides, TES already has healing spells, sleeping, and health potions. Does it really need auto regen? It didn't work for Fable 3, a more action packed game than TES, so I can't picture it working well here. Here's an idea, if the player is hurt just up the chance of finding a health potion in a chest/dead guy a lot.

The second thing I'd love to see changed is the rather embarrassing lack of skills. Even Dead Island seems to have more variety than Skyrim. Why not get rid of just adding mana/stamina/health at each level up and replace them with a pair of full blown skills with skill trees? I'd also love to see acrobatics added back in. Not just jumping, but dodging, mounting walls, etc.

A lot of fans seems to think Skyrim could be better than it may turn out to be. And I'd there are developers that feel the same. Forget the release date, make the game fun first and foremost. Money will follow that a lot better than trying to appeal to "a wider audience" or trying to hit a "lucrative release window".

you sir need to go out, buy a camp stove, strip down, run into traffic pointing a toy gun at police while cooking bacon.

I agree with everything. I'd also bring spellmaking back in. I would easily wait one more year for this. ;) Unfortunately it won't happen.

We here are less than 5% of their total audience. They're designing the game for millions of people. And your statement isn't even true to begin with.

If game designers worked solely to please their old fans, they'd never get any new ones.

I'd rather have a lot of people playing and enjoying the Elder Scrolls, because it means the studio can keep devoting more and more time to it. The changes that have been made don't "bastardize" the games. They improve on an already-existing formula.

And none of the changes destroy the games that fans know and love. You don't get to "keep" a series. It isn't yours.

P.S. This forum isn't representative of the playerbase for this game. It's representative of a tiny fraction of the fanbase, many of whom are highly critical and fear change. This is true for any game.

You're kidding yourself if you think another 6 months of pure feature addition would put even one dent into the perceived dissatisfaction around here.

Attributes would be back in Fallout 3 style where you choose them at the beginning and didn't really change them at all in game. The Attributes would give slight bonuses to skills and some like Strength would determine encumberence rate.

Back in Fallout 3 style? TES games NEVER used Fallout 3 style for it's attribute system. How can they go back to it?

You do realize that the "mainstream audience" isn't on the forums, right? The people who are here are mostly the cult fanbase.

Ehhhh no. People are complaining about minuscule features now, just think if they delayed the game 6 months. We would have the same people complaining about delaying the game 6 months.
