So you start out your post by admitting that plenty of people (I daresay the majority) like the new features, but then you go on to explain that everyone's actually really dissatisfied?
I'm a fan.
I like regenerating health out of combat. I like the skill trees they have.
And by the way "appealing to a wider audience" is exactly what they should do. Why should this game not be accessible to more people? It usually just means the game is more fun.
You have to balance between the cult fanbase and the mainstream people. Making things 'more accessible' means diminishing the appeal to the cult fanbase who typically have been fans of the series several times longer than others. These people became fans because they enjoyed the original way the game worked. Why do mainstream people want to see series bastardized in order to have an even larger roster of games? Why can't we cult fans keep a single series that we enjoy?
Also..who is the majority of people your on about? Just about every feature and poll i've seen talked about or done on this forum has had a 2:1 dislike ratio over like.
As for the delays, you are only looking at half the issue. Delaying a game has a major impact on the game itself, sure you get more time to work on a title, but you also have to update the visuals as well. Most importantly though it costs a LOT more more meaning increased prices or less sales. Less sales mean less investment for the next game in the series meaning less time to develop it, less talent, and less of everything.
